Excellent work. I actually have that on my list of projects to build. I don't have 1/2" sheet steel or 1" solid stock and I do not have a need for such a heavy duty vice. My intention is to use 1" RHS for the frame and 2" angle iron for the jaws mostly because I have that on hand. I will upload once completed.

Excellent, would have expected a nicer looking handle then a bolt cut very functional. Well done keep up the great work as it is inspiring to others. Great to see the quality work you can produce with basic tools that every one has. I hate it when I see "DIY ..." but you need 10000 work of equipment to do it. My hat is off to you sir.

Great job !!!, congratulations, I think that I can get all materials in my local hardware stores, the only thing that is almost impossible to get is your hand's surgeon precision, lol
No you file by pressing against the work so the shape of the file forms on the work and dont be lazy with measuring and maybe modify the file to file only small portion from the work to remove high spot or convex concave surface and get a granite to detect twist a straight edge can only show the straightness of two sides of a plane and they can still be twisted if the work is long or big if shorter then the files length alternate the direction of filing to remove twist(if im not wrong
(Above is my experience and not the final answer to the problem )
Lastly get good quality,tidy teethed files .
