    I love Sailor's nibs 🙂 nice to see them on more pens.
    Also, the fact that you don't oversell the gold nibs is appreciated. I always appreciate honesty from retailers.

    I'm partial to the "merlot" red with the slight transparency. Something about that colour with the silver Taccia print on the bottom of the cap is really appealing to me. And yeah I'll take the music nib for sure. That juiciness is mad appealing

    Sailor nibs are stellar. Second only to Aurora nibs in my league of favourites. The Taccia pens are nothing particularly special in terms of looks, style and the rest of it. But at this decent affordable price, I’m very keen to try the pen and a Sailor steel nib for the very first time. Broads are my mainstay in nibs. But I’d very likely get the steel music if and when I buy a Taccia. Wonder why they didn’t offer the zoom as well. I quite like the one I have on my Realo pen. Thanks, Brian, for the effort and patience behind doing this for us. Public service for pen fanatics. 🙂

      @@naarayanu3700 ...Thanks, buddy! I have bought the Taccia Forest Green pen with the steel music nib. And it’s fantastic. I’m so glad I bought the pen and chose that nib. As for gold, I still feel the Sailor 21k nib is the best in their size spectrum. I adore that nib.

    Out of those, the 'merlot' red is the colour that spoke to me...normally I like a fine nib for my everyday, but after seeing the music nib do its thing, I think that in the steel is more suited for how I write. Thanks Brian!

    I’m just getting to this 2 weeks after the post, but so nice to have you back. Really enjoyed this. As normally a XF-F guy (Preferably Japanese or vintage Parker/Sheaffer) I would go with the XF-F steel or even the MF in the gold. The steel music is also cool for adding character to writing.
    Thank you so much for this and the relaxed pace. Regards to Rachel and the kids. As you have the time and interest I would love to see an occasional Wednesday evening stream again. Stay well. -Alan Pareis

    I have a spotlight in clear with a music nib. The nib is a very wet writer, so much so that I could empty a converter in a day. The nib has a sweet spot, and once you find it, the nib is surprisingly smooth. But it is a w-e-t writer. Not displeased. The writing lines are thick, much thicker than I had thought.

    I love the nib nook, it really helps (along with your videos because not being able to write with a pen is an evil of the hobby- esp right now we don't have shows to go to). Also, the ink selections are helpful. I think I found 3 I want for Christmas. Still holding out hope for an actual silver (not gray) sheening or shimmering ink... I am not surprise by your findings that the fine steel nibs are more favored over the gold. I still hold my pilot metropolitan steel fine over even my custom 823.... it does baffle my logic on the matter, but it seems that "Japanese steel" (get it? think of the swords) is excellent regardless of if its grade. Its finished outcome quality is simply superior than is gold in "some cases"
    Just a thought...If the 823 came with a steel nIb... OOOOOOOOOH BOOOOOOY WHAT A WRITING EXPERIENCE SOME OF US WOULD LIKE TO EXPERIENCE!
    Wouldn't you agree Japanese steel nibs are favored?

    I wondered how I managed to miss the Taccia for so long when I saw them the other day. I didn't. They're new. This is so timely (since I ordered 2). Are you planning to get the inks? The Nakabayashi inks are beautiful and the boxes are amazing works of art.

  • @arcfide
    @arcfide 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I believe one of the reasons for the three tines in a music nib was that when you were actually copying music, you were often using carbon or other types of inks that were at a higher risk of clogging, and you wanted a better flow.

    All the pens that I have in my possession have steel nibs. I just like them; but, what is important to me is the reliability of the pen. If it stays unused for a week, can I still write with it right away without having to shake it, scribble with it, or empty the ink out and refill it?

    Regarding ink on your fingers, I noticed when I first got into fountain pens and watching your videos that your fingers looked like mine, but Rachel's fingers always looked pristine. Is this just video editing, or is there a method to her ink-free fingers?

    I typically prefer music/stub nibs, but I was disappointed with the Sailor music nib I have (on a 1911S). It has the least line variation of any music/stub nib I’ve tried. (If they’d called it a double broad, I’d have been happier.) I have found no benefit to modern gold nibs over modern steel nibs so, all other things being equal, I’d opt for a steel nib. Among the Taccia pens, I’ve had the blue Spectrum on my wish list since I got one of their Pinnacles.

    Will black fountain pen ink fades away like blue one?

    • @Wolphie
      @Wolphie 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say that it depends of the ink's quality. I know some inks are more permanent and/or more water resistant than others, like Noodler's inks are usually quite good I think?

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the specific ink. Fountain pen ink is dye/water based, which isn't inherently UV-resistant. Certain dye colors hold up better than others, but it's best to keep any pen ink out of direct sunlight if longevity is your goal. If you want fade-resistance, particular inks are designed with these properties in mind. Look for fountain pen ink labeled "iron gall, pigmented, carbon, bulletproof or eternal (Noodler's specific terms), or archive". These inks have differing properties, but all will have an elevated degree of lightfastness that will provide UV-resistance (in varying ink colors, but most have a black color option). -Brian

      I recently bought two3776 pens, and both had butter on glass nibs. I was incredibly surprised. I wonder if Platinum is starting to listen to those who complain about the feedback. I like the traditional feedback on Platinum nibs, but they get an immense number of complaints each year from people who do not like feedback, and who say this is why they don't buy Platinum nibs.
