    King Alfonso and his men sang this during the Reconquest of Spain as they entered a conquered city. During the pause while singing the "Sanctus," they heard the song continue from under the ground. They realized Catholic prisoners were being held there. They all finished the song together after they freed the prisoners.

      @@johnthecatholic914 thank you for asking. The novelist Shusaku ENDO is famous for 'Silence' and other works on Hidden Christians.
      There are some theologians I do recommend but sadly they rarely write books in foreign languages. one of them is Hisao Miyamoto a Dominican priest. He is a great biblical/ pauline/ patristic scholar. His explanation on Song of Songs by Gregory of Nyssa helps me understand the spirituality of church fathers.

    I used to be an Orthodox student who visited some extraordinarily beautiful churches in my university city on almost a daily basis. My knowledge about Catholicism was scarce, but I was willing to find out more and more things. I used to go to a particular church and peer into a copy of Rubens' Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity that was hanging above the altar. I'd listen in front of it to this exact Te Deum for maybe one hour on end multiple times a week. Tears of joy would flow down on my face. I think that is the time when I became a Catholic at heart. My conversion took almost 7 more years or so, in the meantime I kept reading lots of Catholic theology and talked to many Catholics in my uni town - fervent lay people and nuns whose help was so precious. I never mentioned to anyone that I am considering conversion. It seemed like an extraordinarily hard thing to do. Fast forward to 7 years in the future, here I am in a mountain town where the majority of the population is Catholic. After only two masses and after praying the Rosary for 2 weeks, converting to Catholicism came as naturally as breathing. I prayed to be guided and I got my answer. I confessed and partook of the Eucharist in the Catholic Church less than a month ago. I'll never forget how I went back to my bench, the Eucharist still in my mouth, and sat and wept tears of joy and relief for minutes on end. My lifelong quest was over. I was finally home!

      John, first of all Hinduism is NOT a religion. It is a name given to a range of practices, attitudes and beliefs.
      The founder of the Catholic church is Jesus Christ, the other not credited to a particular founder. We believe in one God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The other, many gods, but realize that they all come from Atman.
      We also believe Eternity is Heaven or Hell, in some cases temporal Purgatory. Hindu is a constant cycle of reincarnation until enlightenment is reached....Literally us Catholics, all 1.5 BILLION of us are Followers of Christ. The other are followers of Vedas are called as Arya is not a dynasty, ethnicity or race.
      We have Priests, Bishops, ministers, monks, and nuns. Other has no official clergy. Gurus, Yogis, Rishis, Brahmins, Pundits, priestess, monks, and nuns. We believe in THE HOLY BIBLE.
      IN ALL WE WERE STARTED IN 33 AD....THEY WERE 3,000 BC. THE CATHOLIC RELIGION is the True Faith, while the other believe all religions have some truth in them.
      So when you need to debate with someone as myself who studied Church history seven years, I'll be happy to answer any other questions you may have.......hehehe

      Francesca F. Hey Francesca,
      It seems that way when one first arrives at the belief in the Trinitarian God, but it isn't just about believing in the abstract idea of God. We have to follow the traditions that Our Lord Jesus Christ left for us through His Catholic Church passed on to us by the Apostles Peter and Paul, and the whole lineage of the Bishops and priests that have kept the one, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Faith. The history of the Faith must be understood and preserved in order not to have confusion about how to leave perfectly as a Christian.

      If not for SSPX, you wouldn’t have orthodoxy of Catholic Faith, FSSP or Latin Mass anywhere. All started because of SSPX and FSSP is a compromising organization fully leashed by the modernists trying to desteoy the church. Their foundation is also very dubious. SSPX while acknowledging the Papacy doesn’t listen to their canonical directives for a good reason. This is why they are much more widespread and this is why they are able to convert much more souls to Catholicism and Traditionalism.

    You are God: we praise you;
    You are God: we acclaim you;
    You are the eternal Father:
    All creation worships you.
    To you all angels, all the powers of heaven,
    Cherubim and Seraphim, sing in endless praise:
    Holy, holy, holy, Lord, God of power and might,
    Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
    The glorious company of apostles praise you.
    The noble fellowship of prophets praise you.
    The white-robed army of martyrs praise you.
    Throughout the world the holy Church acclaims you:
    Father, of majesty unbounded,
    Your true and only Son, worthy of all worship,
    And the Holy Spirit, advocate and guide.
    You, Christ, are the king of glory,
    The eternal Son of the Father.
    When you became man to set us free
    You did not spurn the Virgin’s womb.
    You overcame the sting of death,
    And opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers.
    You are seated at God’s right hand in glory.
    We believe that you will come, and be our judge.
    Come then, Lord, and help your people,
    Bought with the price of your own blood,
    And bring us with your saints
    To glory everlasting.
    Save your people, Lord, and bless your inheritance.
    Govern and uphold them now and always.
    Day by day we bless you.
    We praise your name forever.
    Keep us today, Lord, from all sin.
    Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy.
    Lord, show us your love and mercy;
    For we put our trust in you.
    In you, Lord, is our hope:
    And we shall never hope in vain.....

    The Te Deum (also known as Ambrosian Hymn or A Song of the Church) is an early Christian hymn of praise. The title is taken from its opening Latin words, Te Deum laudamus, rendered as "Thee, O God, we praise".

    I've started my learning of Latin and really like it. I started converting to Catholicism about a year ago but, I wanted tradition so I started learning Latin and attending the TLM. I really hope this language stays alive and does not change. English is so flawed, but Latin is amazing and powerful. God love you.

      Daniel, I was brought up with the Latin Mass, was an altar sever who knew the Latin .
      The Mass in the native language is best. Jesus spoke in his own mother tongue. The Latin Mass is not from God now. It may have served well in the past. But in my case ENGLISH is my mother tongue and I would never return to the priest with his back to the people speaking in Latin , a language which is uneasy and difficult to understand .
