@@TheAfterschoolSpecialist And also here is what I would have done if I were Cassie's friend, Brooke; On a health class trip to the hospital where after the doctor talks to a teenage girl with a bandage wrapped around her head... Brooke: What happened to that girl you just talked to? Doctor: Kim is a battered teen. Her boyfriend beat her up so badly, she had to have a clot removed from her brain. Girl: Terrible. Doctor: Yes! Teen dating violence is a terrible problem. 3% of women in the United States are murdered by their abusive partners. Girl: What kind of people would do such a thing? Doctor: Who knows? They just lash out for some reason or no reason at all. Brooke: What about those battered teens? Couldn't they tell someone that they're being hurt by their partners? Doctor: Sometimes they do but often times, they think it's their fault and some of these teenagers protect their partners. Probably because they're afraid of what their partners will do. When we asked Kim what happened to her, she told us she and her boyfriend almost hit a stone and he slammed on the brakes and she hit the dash. Cassie: (in Brooke's flashback) We almost hit a stone and Charlie slammed on the brakes and I hit the dash. Girl: Brooke, are you okay? Is something wrong. Brooke: Maybe. I don't know. But I got to find out for sure. In the girls' bathroom at school... Brooke: Cassie, I want to ask you something. Cassie: Yes? Brooke: Do you remember the other day in the girls' locker room before P.E.? Cassie: Sure. Why? Brooke: Did Charlie give you that black eye? Brooke: (as she comforts Cassie who starts crying) Shh. Shh. It's okay. It's okay. At Brooke's house... Brooke: So, I just comforted her. I didn't make her tell me. I don't know what to do. I mean, what am I supposed to do? She got so upset. Brooke's dad: What a mess. Brooke: And I'm scared to talk to Charlie. If I tell him what I think, he might really get mad. Brooke's mom: That could mean more trouble for Cassie. Brooke: I know. And when I passed him in the hall this afternoon, I got so uptight. I didn't even know how to act. I just kept thinking of that black eye. Brooke's dad: What do you think ought to be done? Brooke: I don't want to start any trouble. Maybe it's none of my business. Brooke's mom: Brooke, if what you suspect is true that Cassie is in real danger, it is your business. Brooke: But I didn't ask for this mess. I mean, why do I have to be the one to do anything about it? Brooke's dad: Come on. You know the answer to that. Brooke's mom: If things are as serious as you say, you've got to take some action. You've got a responsibility. At the hospital during lunch time... Brooke: And so when we were here last, I've decided to do a paper for health class on teen dating violence. Doctor: Good for you. Have a seat. Brooke: Thanks. Doctor: I have some pamphlets here. I'll give you a background. Brooke: OK? But what I really wanted to know is what would somebody do if they thought something like this was going on? Doctor: Well, that's a tough one. Some people don't want to get involved. They hope somebody else will take care of it. Brooke: Yeah, I can imagine. Doctor: But there are things that can be done. Brooke: Oh, yeah? Like what? Doctor: There is a person who works at school called the guidance counselor. Anyone can report a suspected case of teen dating violence to the guidance counselor at any time during the day and nobody has to know who reported it except you and the guidance counselor. Brooke: Really? Doctor: Yes! If there is even a chance that someone is in an abusive relationship, that person deserves protection. It's just not okay to hurt anyone. Brooke: OK? And then what would happen? Doctor: Well, the guidance counselor would call the victim over to their office and ask the victim some questions about what their partner is doing to them and see what the victim says. Brooke: Well, that's good. At the guidance counselor's office after school... Brooke: Excuse me. You got a minute? Guidance Counselor: Sure. Come on in. Brooke: Thanks. Guidance Counselor: So, what can I do for you? Brooke: Well, I'd like to report a case of possible teen dating violence. Guidance Counselor: OK? And who do you think is experiencing this? Brooke: Cassie O'Brian. Guidance Counselor: And how do you know Cassie O'Brian? Brooke: Well, I'm a friend of hers. Guidance Counselor: And who is she dating? Brooke: She's dating Charlie Tyler. Guidance Counselor: And when did you first suspect that she was experiencing this? Brooke: Yesterday. Guidance Counselor: OK? I'll see what I can do tomorrow. Brooke: OK? Thank you. Guidance Counselor: You're welcome. Have a nice day. Brooke: Yeah, you too. At Brooke's house... Brooke's dad: Pretty tough chat with the guidance counselor, huh? Brooke: I just feel so crummy. I'm not sure that was the right thing to do. Brooke's dad: I am. You made the right choice. Not the easiest one. It took a lot of courage and I'm proud of you. Brooke: But what if the whole school finds out that I went to the guidance counselor? At the guidance counselor's office... Cassie: You wanted to see me? Guidance Counselor: Yes, come on in. Cassie: Thanks. What is it? Guidance Counselor: Well, the reason I called you down here is because I was informed of a possible teen dating violence situation between you and Charlie Tyler. Cassie: Teen dating violence? That's ridiculous. Whoever informed you of something like this must be crazy. Guidance Counselor: Would you like me to call the police and have Charlie arrested? Cassie: No, thanks. It's okay. Guidance: Well, if you change your mind, I'm always here. Cassie: Thanks. On the way to school... Brooke: I'm so worried about Cassie. I mean what if Charlie had done something worse to her or even killed her. Girl: Hey, Brooke, will you relax? Nothing is gonna happen. I mean we're gonna see Cassie at school today and she doesn't know you went to the guidance counselor and everything will be just fine. At school... Brooke: Hi, Cassie. How are you? Cassie: May I speak to you please? Brooke: Sure. Will you excuse us please? Girl: Sure. See you later. Brooke: So, what's up? Cassie: Look, little miss busybody. I've got enough problems as it is. So stop coming around here trying to make everything worse. Brooke: What are you talking about? Cassie: It was you who went to the guidance counselor, wasn't it? Brooke: But I was only trying to help. Cassie: It was you! I knew it was you! Brooke: But I was just trying to help you. Cassie: You sneaky little tart! Spreading lies about me and Charlie! Brooke: But Cassie, please, try to understand. I had to do it. It was all for you. Cassie: Just when Charlie and I were trying to work things out, you come around and ruin it all! Brooke: But it wasn't working out! Don't you see? You need help and you need to breaking things off with Charlie. Cassie: (starts to cry on Brooke's shoulder): You're right. Brooke: Come on. After therapy... Cassie: (to Brooke) Hey, thanks. Brooke smiles...
15:05 u have got to be kidding me.. cassie never laid her hands on him not ONCE yet he has the audacity to say he's the one who's been abused???? oh he just pissed me off big time
When Charlie almost killed Cassie one night, abusers always have the attitude, "If I can't have you, no one can." So before ending your relationship with an abusive partner, make a plan. She shouldn't have told him in private that she was breaking up with him that night or said no when her dad asked to walk her to the door when he dropped her off at school. That was very dangerous. So, always go with someone to break up with your abusive partner and always have someone escort you after you break up with them.
charlie needs to find a better outlet to let all his anger out because taking it out on people he claims to love is literally the worst thing he could ever do... he needs to seek professional help
He should be in jail. He never really loved Cassie or he wouldn't be hurting her. I was surprised that no faculty or staff member showed up when he hit her in her art class.

I enjoyed it and this Charlie guy should be in jail and not in therapy or on probation.
