- Mario & Luigi go on a brand new adventure!
After having saved the Mushroom Kingdom for the nth time, the bros were contacted by Professor E.Gadd to assist him in a scientific expedition to the old and abandoned Mushroom Kingdom (now called Mushroom Falls).
They’re helped by Vivian the Shadow Siren who wears a strange magic amulet, and Toad the brave driver of the EGadd Machine: their headquarters.
Together, they’ll go on their greatest adventure yet!
Mushroom Falls is a place full of secrets and danger. It hides the clue to a mysterious question written in a journal they found there: is all of their adventure just a play?
This animation is the opening of a fake Mario series based on Gravity Falls.
I had the idea to do it for a long time (when Luigi’s Mansion 3 came out) but I wanted to have sufficient skills before doing it.
I wanted this project to be my greatest animation yet, and it took me 3 months to complete it! Its purpose was to show a glimpse of what a modern Mario show could’ve been.
One of the key themes was considering all Mario secrets like glitches, obscure references, or some theories being canon.
Most people won’t notice those easter eggs but congrats if you got all of them!
As an artist, Mario was and is still a great inspiration for me.
It’s thanks to Super Mario Galaxy that I decided at the age of 9 to become an artist.
So this project was also a tribute to this wonderful series that shaped my art career!

agreed: since the world/multiverse of paper Mario is (though many wish it didn't happen) canonically a book, the concept of a seal being broken unleashing the beings works as a parallel. Personally, I believe that Dimentio is the most threatening being either Mario has faced as, had plot armor not kicked in, his plan went off perfectly and there was no way he could fail. Plus his theme bops.

I love how, when introducing Mario and Luigi in place of Dipper, you used both of his motions for the character it fit, like Mario looking around with the torch, and Luigi fumbling with his after seeing a spooky monster. it's such a great detail.
I like the story that’s implied here. Firstly, there were the references to the Shroobs, and a reference to Super Mario Sunshine, then there was the ending with Dimentio (suggesting that maybe he was behind what seemed to be the collapse of the Mushroom Kingdom) but there’s one detail I don’t see anyone talking about which is to do with the necklace, namely the one Peach is holding in the photo, maybe this is after the Mushroom Kingdom became Mushroom Falls, and how it seems to be the same necklace Vivian is wearing around her neck. Either Vivian found it laying around or she has some sort of history with Peach. Seriously, this has so much original lore it’s amazing.
If you mean the photo at the end, then it's not Peach, but Princess Rosalyn from Mario Galactica.

I mean in the US Disney did dump 101 Dalmation Street onto Disney+ without advertising like it was Disney XD (I specify US because Disney Channel UK has videos here on TH-cam about the show, including a TH-cam-exclusive pokerap knockoff, The Puppy Name Song) Other than that there's no real sign of them being nearly as bad.
I mean there was the shared Marvel Hulu universe but that was because of a change of management at Marvel Television (which was folded into Marvel Studios) and Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur seems to have not been hit by it, must have been shuffled off to the new Marvel Studios Animation (the old Marvel Animation was a subsidiary of Marvel Television) by the looks of things.
Also MODOK and Hit-Monkey at least each got a single season out, in spite of the restructuring. I don't think the first season of Hit-Monkey was even finished when that happened because it took longer to release. That's not the kind of treatment Netflix would give a show they canceled, just look at Glitch Techs, the third season has already been written, boarded and designed but Netflix won't green-light it.
Not to mention Hulu and Disney+ have yet to straight up _remove_ shows like HBO Max did.
Besides, look at the alternatives: Paramount+ would guarantee the show has NFTs made without the consent of the creators and who even has the NBCUniversal one? I mean really.
Psychedelics are just an amazing discovery. It's quite fascinating how effective they are for depression and stress..saved my life.
Psychedelics definitely have potential to deal with health issues like anxiety and depression, I would like to try them but it's just hard to source out here.
I'm feeling the same way too. I put so much on my plate and it definitelv affects mv stress and anxietv levels

Dang it! Now I want to a series about this version of the Mario Bros. I mean you had aviator Daisy, Prep boy Waluigi and Anchor/Capt.Scruffy?? (I'm just calling him Capt. Lou) just to name a few. And a billon bonus points for using Dimentio for the Bill fill in, that's just perfect.
It's masterful blend of all things Mario and Gravity Falls, Bravo!
E. Gadd being Grunkle Stan actually makes a ton of sense considering how both E Gadd and Grunkle Stan are morally grey characters who do questionable things despite being heroes at the end of the day. Anyways, absolutely phenomenal job, dude. As a fan of both Mario and Gravity Falls, I am in LOVE with this.

True mario lore is playing paper mario and checking goombario's dialogue for every single area
I remember there was actually a set of fan made books that did this sort of thing. It gave a lot more backstory and charm to odd characters like E. Gadd and Wario, and went into some places that Nintendo didn’t shed much light on. Sadly, Nintendo being Nintendo, they sued the author for use of copyrighted characters, and now the books are no longer produced
Edit: FOUND THE BOOKS! If anyone is interested, it’s just called Super Mario Bros. and it’s author is Kenneth Wilson. I know no one probably cares, but I feel happy about myself that I rediscovered a lost piece of my childhood

I can’t say just how much I love this! It’s like a true love letter to everything that the Mario universe has to offer. It reminds me of how Nintendo has all these other characters and settings for Mario, but they never, ever do anything with them.

Now this a show I would watch and a game I would play. Not only would you find mysteries of the Mushroom Kingdom, but you'd find a lot of Gravity Falls references too. Also, you're a genius for having Dimentio in the role of Bill Cipher.

A Mario & Luigi game, where they travel to this kind of abandoned looking town full of wooden ruins and weird mystic shrines, while everything is pretty over grown being inside a forest, and are guided by E. Gadd, and even though the town looks abandoned with everything being overgrown it still has this really nice community of people and a mysterious background which we learn about through the game, would definitely be an awesome game. 10/10 concept imo.
I was about to say that you can't imagine how much I love this and would like an entire series, but yes you can, you litterally dedicated a ton of time doing this, so thank you and well done ❤
Gravity Falls parody aside, I love the idea of exploring more dark/unsettling themes and concepts in the Mario world, while maintaining a balance with the whimsical nature of it all.
Another Disney show, The Owl House, has pretty much exactly that kind of Horror-Comedy tone.
I also adore the idea of the grand mystery being about Mario and Luigi piecing together that they're video game characters, among other secrets and conspiracies in the Mushroom Kingdom and integrating obscure Mario trivia and famous glitches like the Minus World.
I cannot describe how much I love this and how much I wish this was a real series. Every little detail, the way you drew every character, the Hell Valley Trees, the Minus World, Dimentio, all of it is just so so perfect and I would love nothing more than to watch this as a series.

The sheer amount of Mario RPG representation has me weak. Vivian as a main character in any Mario media again would probably make me actually cry, especially if it was pinned as a cute, quirky cartoon series in the vain of this.
I would pay to see even a short ~5 minute "pilot" of this concept made. Or some sort of webcomic. You're sitting on gold here!

Gotta comment on Pilot Daisy. Such a cool choice/callback to Super Mario Land. Her plane here is based on the official art of Mario's plane from that game, she never piloted it as such, but it is sucha cool concept. Her character is so under-utilized in the Mario franchise, I hope they do more with her

@@yamatiop789 Jimmy T. is a character from WarioWare - his main specialty being disco and dancing. The minus world itself is based on World 4-1 from Super Mario Bros (which in the North American version of SMB, is World -1 if you do the glitch).
0:30 On the right you can see the Dark Star from Bowsers Inside Story.
0:32 you can see one of the kings from SMB3 in the stained glass.
0:36 You can see the skinny mushroom from Super Mario Maker on the postage stamp, the trees are also based off of the pumpkinheads you see in Super Mario Galaxy.
The patterns on the Dimentio screen are identical to the patterns found in Count Blecks Castle.

The train station scene at 0:05 has a poster partially hidden by a picture of a fire flower, with the top starting with "Ma" and the bottom reading "Superstar." This is probably a reference to Mario Odyssey. There's also another mini-poster that reads "hurry up!" (a term for the sound effects and change in the music that play when mario begins to run out of time completing a level,) and a small hammer posted there, resembling one of the hammer-related badges from the Paper Mario games. Mario is carrying a duffel bag that says "POW" on it, which is a reference to the Pow blocks from the original Mario Bros game, and which has been in numerous mario games since then.

Loved the attention to detail on the super Mario Bros. 3 crouch no clip glitch and the location of the Bomb-Omb battlefield painting being ominously secluded on an overgrown rock formation deep in the woods and the visual aesthetic of the foreground of the animation, Nice job 👍

Wow the amount of detail in this is phenomenal, Dimentio in the ending, the frozen Shroobs from Inside Story, even the Hell Valley Sky Tree from Galaxy 2. Also just top notch quality animation, would legit watch this show if it were a real thing.

Always wanted to see Mario & Luigi as a wholesome TV series duo. The art style is perfect, the premise of an ancient mushroom kingdom fascinates me. And all the details like E. Gadd, minus world, shroobs, the old King and Queen, Mario and Luigi's dad, Dimentio... I wish I were this creative!

I love the hidden details. I wasn't into Gravity Falls as a kid, but this put a smile across my face. Someone should make this into a fan game with you as the artist.
I love how Bowser is depicted in this. His old regal decrepid figure is really menacing. He's like the king of the mountain and he doesn't let you leave his domain using magic.
Yeah, I know this is sadly a hot take, but I honestly VASTLY prefer Bowser when he’s portrayed as a genuinely serious, threatening, and intimidating villain over when he’s portrayed as a dumb, goofy, and nice villain.
@@Rediscool9 I don't know how hot of a take that is, but I agree with you. I feel like they're trying to downplay how threatening Bowser is and letting other villains outshine him. They gave him all these traits that should have given him incomparable threat and power, but they're shying away from using them. His kingdom has martial, technological, and magical advantage over the Mushroom Kingdom. He should be as scary as a neighboring country invading you.
Okey, this freaking amazing. I love the frozen shroobs working as both a reference to Partners in Time *and* to Bowser Inside Story.
Only found this just this morning, but i would do absolutely ANYTHING to have this as a game. Even just a romhack of smb3 with them exploring this long forgotten land and i love the concept of toad using the van to travel to the minus world!!
If Nintendo ever does make something like this and makes sense of some of the Mario Lore and its plotholes all while bringing back old one-shot charcters and what they've been doing all this time?

This is actually soooo cool! It's great to see people realize the potential the Mario cannon has for legitimate story-telling and world building :D!
Yeah, it’s a real shame that many see the Mario franchise as extremely simple in terms of storytelling and has no lore to speak hence why there are so many memes making fun of the Mario franchise and it’s “lack of deep lore” and it’s only just about Mario rescuing the princess for the billionth when that isn’t truly the case at all. Mario lore is so underrated, overlooked, and misunderstood.
@@Rediscool9 but... the core series literally is just mario saving the princess from bowser over and over. that's what people criticise and joke about, not the paper mario or mario and luigi games etc
@@fl3m1n9o4 Why the fuck should we exclude the Mario RPGs though? They’re still MARIO games. Just because they’re not main series games, that doesn’t mean that they just don’t exist. There are almost just as many Mario RPGs as there are main series Mario platformers. Let that sink in for just a second…… The Mario RPGs have been an important part to the overall Mario franchise since 1996. I don’t give a FUCK if they’re not main series. Saying that they’re “not main series therefore they don’t count or are not important” or some other bullshit reason like that is so disingenuous and disrespectful to how important the Mario RPGs are to the Mario franchise.
@@Rediscool9 Miyamoto and Shimizu (The person who directed Sunshine and Galaxy) sat down and had a 5hr talk about storytelling in Mario games, where they came to the compromise of some (but not too much) storytelling, and no new mainstay characters (like Rosalina & Bowser Jr).
That's why modern-day mainline Mario can feel so... generic.

This right here might be the coolest gravity falls inspired animation I've ever seen. Every once in a while, Mario games have one creepy secret, and you don't think much about it. This animation takes all of those creepy things and combines them, creating such an interesting narrative theme of secrets and mystery. I understand if copyright is an issue, but I would love to see more animations of Mushroom Falls!

Luigi is so cute in this. I want to actually want a show like this if Alex Hirsh and Nintendo try to come together. Probably not.
I honestly expected Luigi to be Mabel, but Vivian works too, I guess.

Someone already mentioned it, but adding Dimentio at the end makes this a 10/10. Dimentio is such an underrated character, I wish more people talked about him
Yeah actually I don't hear people talking about Dimentio much but people love him. Plus him being Bill Cipher is perfect.

@@Rediscool9 I believe he was just defeated. He just didn't appear again because Miyamoto decided to not add original characters to Paper Mario games. Though I'm not sure, I'm replaying Super Paper Mario now so I'll see if Dimentio actually dies or not
What a fantastic animation! I love all the subtle call-backs (had to slow it 0.25 speed to notice the Dimentio bit) and the overall character inclusions from throughout the Mario series. It was also neat that you didn't have each character set as a specific character replacement from Gravity Falls, hence Vivian popping up far more times in the opening.
Dimentio would be the final antagonist for sure

Wish Nintendo would approve of something like this. I always thought the world of Mario had great potential for interesting stories, and we see that in a few spin offs but not ever in mainline.
God I would kill to see a Mario show with gravity falls themes and aesthetics that uses lore from the main titles and the spin-offs at the same time

Much as I love this, it just makes me sad that it's not an actual show. The atmosphere, the character design, the backgrounds, the details, the animation, it's all so, SO good.
I just re-watched the video for the second time to see the details and the easter eggs (which are beautiful, well animated and I understood all the references you put and well detailed. I congratulate you) and I have some theories from the video (such as the origin of rosalina, the creator of the book, the death of the queen and king toad, etc). I just hope that in a great future you will turn the project into a series or an animated short where it explains more about that universe and the history of everything that was seen in the video (I also want to see more of the characters having better moments or interaction with that world that you invented). an excellent video 9.5 / 10 according to me

I've been a Mario fan since I was little and after seeing I need this as a show
I LOVE this! The references are AMAZING! Toad pulling to switch to Minus World, Mario going out of bounds through a while semisolid, the SMM Weird Mushroom on the postcard stamp, it makes it all come to life! I really wish this could be an actual fan series!

This is phenomenal in every possible way. You used Gravity Falls as a template but made each shot your own (or, Nintendo's, I guess) and gave it so much life and detail. Of all things the closest this comes to perfectly aping the original is Vivian snuggling Polterpup.
I'm not just laughing because you made Mario look like Gravity Falls, my brain now wants a full game or show about Mario and Luigi investigating ghosts on the road with E. Gadd.
