I was about to order the Eduard kit when I ran across your video on the 1/72 Dragon F6F-3 Hellcat. I've built a number of other 1/72 nd scale 'cats, but your video has me convinced. Considering the injection quality, fine detail, the fact of it's low price, the inclusion of the carrier deck, and your excellent presentation, I've ordered one from an eBay seller. Going to look for a 1/72 scale PE engine upgrade kit to round out this wonderful looking kit. I've subscribed to your page. Your presentations are all first rate and you possess excellent building and finishing techniques. I'm going to enjoy absorbing as much as I can from you. You're a first rate modeler and there's no doubt about it!! Model on, friend!!
Thank you, Doug. I really appreciate the kind words. I'm glad that the videos are helpful as that is my goal. I really do need to build this particular Cat. It has sat on the shelf after that review for far too long. I've heard that there are a few things to watch out for on the wing folds but since I haven't built it yet, I can't comment on that. If you get to yours first, please let me know. I really appreciate the sub and it's good to have you as part of the little community here. Look forward to hearing and seeing the results of your build. All the best, Chad!!
The kit looks fantastic. I already have the Hellcat Mk 1 and 2 dual combo from Eduard but this will have to be next on the list! Thanks for bringing this kit to our attention! 👍
Couldn't agree more! This is a great kit! So glad I didn't pass this one. My first hellcat, I only got it cause I need it and the price was good. Boy it was a pleasant surprise! And a bonus flight deck too. Cool!
Indeed, a nice bonus with that base. I just need to take the time to build mine now and post a video. Folded wings or straight..hummm?? Hope you enjoy your build!
@@FlyingSModels the best part of the deck, you can turn it into a elevator! Just need a little styrene for curved edge. I'm putting a duck on mine. Cheers! And thanx for sharing.
Hi I bought the same kit that you're showing on there I was surprised about it too I looked at it and I always wanted one and it's like you said hard to get a hold of I finally got one off of eBay cuz nobody else carries them and after I got it I would have the box and I was more than happy surprise I mean there's a lot of things I can do with this I mean the guys yeah the guys do little homies looking so I do agree about that the picture in the front that's is make the plane look ugly but this is one of the best haircuts I have ever seen in anybody that's ever built them so thank you for your video I'll be taking you out later all right bye

@@wrathofatlantis2316 Errr well, your comments here do raise a few questions, actually just 1 big one. Wasn't this supposed to be a 1/72 review or am I missing something?
Great video, Chad ! I’m getting ready to build the 1/24 Airfix F6F Hellcat. I’m kind of worried about it because I’m not sure how to pull off a weathered sea blue paint job. Should I lighten the center of the panels with a lighter shade of the sea blue?
Thanks, Johane. Those dark sea blue finishes can be a bit tricky. Not enough weathering and it looks like a toy (at least to me) and too much lightening of the base coat just doesn't look right either. I did a little weathering on my 1/48 F4U-5N if you want to check that out. th-cam.com/video/LKYh-hxcbEc/w-d-xo.html I think I show the steps I used there for that kind of finish. Hope this is helpful. if you need more, just shoot me another comment or contact me over on the website (use contact section) at: flyingSmodels.square.site.
A very nice kit, but one thing no one mentions, including the instructions, is that you need to remove the 20mm cannon mounts on the wings if you are doing anything but a radar equipped F6F5N. An easy fix, but other than that omission a great little kit.
Hi Again. This is a great kit. The wing hinge installation is not really clear in the instructions and it has to be handled very carefully. I had to repair both of mine while building it. The model also benefits by the addition of a small beam that on the real aircraft that holds the undercarriage uplock. On the model it can be used to support the underwing skin outboard of the undercarriage bay on the model. It's a great companion to the Wildcat with folded wings.
Thanks for the build advice. I'm going to need it. Like you said, a great companion to the Wildcat. Maybe need to do the entire Grumman cat series...well, at least the WW2 ones.
@@FlyingSModels Yes, I have a Grumman thing going! I also bought a recent Hobby 2000 repop of the Hasegawa Avenger through Arma Hobby as well. I have built the Academy Avenger but and it looks OK but that is very old - was a Frog kit, I believe. I have built the Eduard Hellcat -3 in 1/48 and that is a good kit but does not have a folded wing option unless you go aftermarket. I have found you on Facebook so I have followed you there - thanks. Just posted a couple of shots on the Hellcat thread there.
I recently picked up this kit thanks to your video! I agree that it’s one of the best hellcat kits out there. I’m doing extra research on it for accuracy. Over all it’s very good! I strongly recommend getting the Detail and Scale book. It has reviews of a bunch of models and goes through the inaccurate details that need some modifications. I plan to correct these as I build it.
The biggest issue with the ch kit is that they completely missed the correct shape of the air intakes on the engine cowl. Too bad because he rest of the kit is really nice. This makes me build the eduard kit instead... The best Hellcat ever imo is the 1/24th scale Airfix but man its huuuuge....
Well the Airifx 1/24 Hellcat is fantastic but like you said, HUGE. Finding a place to put it is the biggest issue. I still need to build the 1/72 CH Hellcat to see if it builds as good as it looks.
