I’m 23 now, and this is still my favorite movie and melody 19 years later. I still don’t comprehend why this melody has always been so hauntingly familiar.
It's meant to be happy, that's sort of the message of the movie. It's happy because it means she lived her life, to the fullest, experiencing everything life has to offer, treasuring every moment because she knew that some day she would grow old and die and never have those moments again. Something that neither Jesse nor any of the Tuck family could experience. Tuck himself explains it to Winnie when they're out in the boat together. Mortals tend toward thinking that immortality would be better than mortality, but in the experience of the Tuck family, it isn't.

William Ross is a very underrated composer imho. This film would have been sadly lacking if it hadn't been for the haunting theme, played by the music box, and heard throughout the film. Great score. I hear some of "My Dog Skip" in some of the passages. Thanks for the posting!

This movie made me fall for Ben Kingsley in every aspect possible. Only seeing him makes me remember this movie and I love it. I mean sure it almost feels kind of traumatic to me, but still. It was there my whole childhood and it will ever be. The one thing I always wanted the most, in my whole life was this damn music box. And seeing Ben Kingsley's character whistleing this sound makes me tear up everytime.
