30:25 re: the early church fathers not being dogmatic about the reconciliation of all things. One shouldn’t ever tell someone else what to think coercively. Because we all need to come to our own thinking and belief personally. Not individually. But using our own words. It’s part of our own growth and maturity and becoming. Our own authenticity.
I think Barfield is very in tune with the idea of Providence, but it is not a conventional view of Providence. See his chapter on the Israelites in Saving the Appearances. He doesn’t believe in a fatalistic Christian version of Darwinism but rather in a cooperative vision of Humanity with God. (Let it be) (Goethe was always criticized for his lack of “Christianity” in his work, but he made it clear it was personal to him)
41:00 you have to not know (with certainty) that God will resurrect your hope in order for your sacrifice to be real. The seed really has to die. Like Abraham/Issac. 🫢😘🫣
50:02 “Even though that party thinks they are on the side of Christ… They are against it.” The exclusivist religion of the right side of history. Christ and AntiChrist. Christ includes what it formerly (or currently) excludes. AntiChrist or TROTRSOH excludes everything down to the individual (which itself doesn’t exist). And death is trampled down by death. Willingly or unwillingly (for now).

I think you’re right Nate. 11:30 I think he holds Steiner as his ideal “mensch”. Everything else seems to fall short.
17:05 re: future being not fixed.
Kal and I have been talking about this a lot.

Barfield sees us in Withdrawal and exhorts us towards Final Participation. But withdrawal is a dark and pessimistic period.

14:00 more pantheist than PoS theologies?!

Thanks for this. I really went out on a limb here and put my cards on the table. I knew you would understand me.

19:10 How is God acting? In us.
So Goethe was cancelled in 1949 for misogyny!?
