    Thank you Otis. My name is Aaron Rodgers.
    I’ve had the honor of producing two records for Billy Don, Nights When I’m Sober and Graveyard In Montgomery.
    I’ve also spent many nights playing guitar for him on the road, as recently as a week ago. Billy is a national treasure, and should be recognized as such. His memories and stories are priceless, as they give us a unique glimpse into the real day to day life of the folks who made country music. His is a perspective you won’t find anywhere else or from anyone else because he was there, man. He was there.

      I know you probably don't remember me but I met you over at my friend Sam's house 4 months ago. I played a few songs before you got up on stage. I wish I would've played a few covers instead of some of my dad's songs since they were really personal. I still had fun playing in front of people though. It was nice to meet you there too. Take care

    The stories BDB can tell is simply amazing and should be published into a book. I’ve been fortunate enough to spend some time with Billy Don and one of the times we split a flask of Jack Daniels whiskey in 95 degree heat in June, in all places Kansas, it just about put us on the ground or at least myself. He told me several stories, one being about Waylon. The world stands still when you are in his presence and he makes everyone feel like they are important to him. What a great man and a legend in this songwriters eyes.

    Cool that he mentioned Jimmy Day, who played (when I met him) with the Clay Blaker band. After our band played and we hung with him, someone said he played with Willie,and that's all I knew about him until many years later when I was told about his incredible career. Another old timer I played with several times was Pappy Self, didnt know much about his history when I was playing Blue Spanish Eyes and other sings with him at various gigs

    I spent the summer of 1973 in Nashville. I was there with my friend, John Parker, who was a guitar player and aspiring song-writer. While he would go up and down music row trying to get the attention of producers, I was working at the Cincinnati Sheet Metal and Roofing Co., loading and unloading trucks. I left Nashville that summer and moved back down to Birmingham, Al. Saw John one more time in Dec. '73 when I thumbed up to Nashville.....Lost touch with him after that, but I've always wondered what became of him. He had a lot of talent, I think.

    Another songwriter in Nashville was having success as a Staff writer for Tree Publishing Company in 1970's. Mack Vickery had several songs that did very well including
    "The Jamestown Ferry" by Tanya Tucker and Jerry Lee Lewis recorded several of Mack's songs. Mack and Wayne Kemp were also cranking out hits as a songwriting duo and as individuals.
    The 1970's was a great time for songwriters in Nashville.

    So..... What exactly is a "guitar pull"???

    • @soosunt
      @soosunt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not in my own words, but here is something:
      What is a guitar pull?
      According to Villanova, a guitar-pull is a southern tradition where a small group of musicians sit around and take turns playing songs on a guitar. The “pull” part comes from the assumption that there was only one guitar among the group, so one may have to “pull” it away from another in order to get a turn.
      I had not heard that term either till BDB used it the other day.
