It's the exact same process as charring dry punk wood except, it takes twice the fuel and twice the cook time. Let me show you. Please follow the LINKs below and SUBSCRIBE. Thank You! Great video. Have you done one where you demonstrate a “survival” fire using only your saw and whatever you can find in nature? That would be a great challenge 😊
David, I always love watching your videos this time of year cause of all the birds singing down there !! Love it !! Great video !! I need to try making some of this !! Thanks for sharing !!
Greetings Mr West- Most the punk wood I have charred, has turned out real good except for one time. I still dont know why, but when charring, it left a whole lot of sticky dark brown sap in the char container? Dont know why, but it only happened that one time. Thanks for another video. You and Mrs West be good-
Your last couple videos on char cloth and charred punkwood has me thinking/wondering when did humanity realize a these materials would take a spark, and if it was pre bronze age, did they make it in pottery containers and if they used pottery containers, could we?
Yes, but, that would take a whole lot of fuel to heat up the pottery… and run the risk of cracking the pottery. See my videos on no char tin char cloth in my char playlist.
Hello David, if you make the hobos in a triangle, i.e. only 3 legs underneath, they can never wobble and they also stand better on the narrow wooden board. Greetings Friedrich
Nice demonstration! Where do you get tin cans like that? I mean the container holding the punk wood that you charred. Also how long did it take start to finish?
Hi David - I came across another TH-camr making char-cloth in a way that I haven't seen you try (maybe you have and I just haven't come across your video yet). The TH-cam channel is "Wonder Understanding" where he uses denim, like you, but rolls it up tightly into a 1/2" to 3/4" "tube" if you will... Have you tried this..? If not, perhaps it would be a good video for you to try. I can copy the link to his video here, if you'd like. Let me know. Thanks for all your videos on fire-making - I really dig your channel. -Dan
You can be sure over the last 10 years I’ve seen and tried everything. I don’t like the way rolled or reverse wrapped char cloth comes out. They are slightly less reactive than the kind I make.
It was empty 3 days ago. I made 3 batches yesterday. My char cloth peanut can container is jam packed full of highly reactive char cloth once again, too.

Total interessant zu sehen, wie das funktioniert
That’s just cool! Punk wood an’ sparks to the fire!
Cast off the back of a saw too!

That has happened to me with char cloth.
Could I use any old vegetable can if I leave the lid attached? Or would that be to much ventilation? Cool videos by the way
Yes, I have a tuna can char tin video.

The stove is too top heavy for just 3 legs.
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl It's top-heavy for me too and I only have 2 🤣
Have you done a video on finding flint stones (chert)? That would be interesting.
We don't have Chert. I buy it from Logical Provisions.

@@DavidWestBgood2ppl Thanks for the quick reply. I'll follow your lead.
I'm glad you didn't get offended by the "sound" of that reply. I really dislike typing and give short replies, usually.

David, can a ferrocerium rod be used to start charcloth.or is that defeating the purpose of the charcloth?
Yes. I never do it, such overkill.
Your jars almost full now🥴
