I came here for stamps, and I also get to see a mini documentary along with it. Every stamp has a story to tell, as a person born before the internet, stamps made me so curious about what was going on in other countries.
    Thanks for these videos

I am a long time collector of US stamps. There are four airmail stamps I am missing and they're the set of 3 Zeppelin stamps you show and a slightly later Zeppelin stamp that is a bit cheaper. Also, off topic a bit, anyone who is into stamp collecting should consider trying to find a series of novels and short stories by a writer whose name is Laurence Block. His main character is a gentleman hit man by the name of Keller. There are many interesting references to stamp collecting which really adds to the books - in my opinion. Thanks again for the fascinating series!

Thanks for such informational video. For me, philately is the best way to learn about history and the things happened in the past that slowly forgotten by the people.
It shows us that history is not isolated from us, but interconnected with everyone of us, in the form of stamps, which is/was available for everyone.
    Keep up the good work.

I used to collect US stamps and the reason I stopped is because the cost of postage starting going up. From 5 cents back in early sixties to the current price of 55 cents. I stopped back in early 90s. I was getting the yearly stamp sets with all the stamps issued for that year. Along with my baseball and football cards which I hear aren't worth as much now stamps are doing the same. I suppose the internet and other ways of electronic communication is a big factor.

This is such a beautiful cover!! It is amazing that it is a first flight cover with the commemorative stamps on it too. I love the classic red and blue blocks along the frame of the cover - so classic. I notice that the top right corner is missing some blocks, I assume because stamps go there? It is so cool that they let you handle the postal stationary at the hanger, that must have been such a special experience!!

Thank you for another informative stamp video. You put a lot of work into these videos which makes them most interesting, particularly with the original footages, etc. I own one card which was carried on the Graf Zeppelin. It bears the round marking which identifies it as having flown on the Graf Zeppelin. The postmark reads “Luftschiff Graf Zeppelin Aug. 16, 1929 and is marked that it was received in Los Angeles Aug. 26, 1929. It is addressed to a manufacturer of scientific instruments in Philadelphia, Pa. This cover bears 2 copies of Germany Scott No. 381, and 1 copy each of Germany Scott Nos. C31, C32 and C36. C36 is one of the stamps shown in this video.

Heh Graham, great video as always. Ever since I saw the list of episodes for season 3, I was looking forward to this one. It is a fascinating topic and it is of special interest to me because I live in Ravensburg, Germany, right next to Friedrichshafen - one of the main zeppelin airports (you can see it written on the $1.30 brown Graf Zeppelin stamp as the starting point in Germany). Friedrichshafen today features a Zeppelin Museum full of artifacts (much like the one in Lakehurst that you show in your video) but also features a partial reconstruction of the passenger part of the Hindenburg (including the smoking room and a few sleeping cabins). In the restaurant, you can book it for a dinner like those that were actually served (they have the menus) for birthdays or other events and get served by waiters in the exact uniforms - very cool. The films they have there show people in a cabin much like the one you used in your video (where was that by the way?) watching the Manhattan skyline pass by while they have their coffee. It must have been amazing!

      @ExploringStamps  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Count Von Zeppelin had an interest at an earlier time that you stated in the video. It turns out that he met with Mr Lowe who was the creator of the Federal Balloon Service used in the US Civil War. in 1862. At the time those Balloons were used for observations. But Zeppelin suggested other war applications other than observation. A very observant person and he consulted with some of the German speaking soldiers that help run the balloons on technical details..

@@ExploringStamps Yes, it was. I wish I could show you a picture of it. I collect stamps and numerous other items especially military uniform buttons. Basically, I collect history. I have Roman items from the UK. A silver hammered penny of Edward I. German buttons dug in Stalingrad. US and British military buttons dating to the American Revolution. Newspapers of Pearl Harbor and D-Day to the end of WWII. And so on. Stamps and covers are extension of my "collecting history". BTW: You have a very interesting way of presenting stamp collecting. Please keep this going! I enjoyed your segment on the "penny black". I don't own the penny black just yet. I do have the one penny red on an 1852 cover from Liverpool. • @olivermiller2013

You showed a lot of German content, OK Germany was very active till 1939, even after the Hindenburg disaster. I read a lot of books and stamps / Zeppelin post was the reeason why it was possible to do this. The passengers paid a lot for travelling and as you stated it was very luxury in the zeppelins, they didn´t cover the cost.
I have a book from 1938 titled Peter Strasser, der Führer der Luftschiffe (leader of the zeppelins) and you can read the early development of the Zeppelins (with many desasters in the early stage) including some remarks from Mr. Zeppelin in Friedrichshafen. Also the Zeppelins in world war 1 bombing Belgian, French and British cities. In fact, the Zeppelins were only good weapons in 1914/15, afterwards it was quite hopeless and Germany lost most of the Zeppelins. Mr. Strasser didn´t survie the war as well in 1918 attacking London. No one survived this attack. So Zeppelins were only for showing (because they were big) prestige. I can remember that the company never earned a dollar.
I like the three US stamps and I own with the brown 1.30 $ on a cover. Not in perfect condition, but the stamp is in good condition.May be sometimes in the future I try to buy a mint set, because this is a really pretty set.
You wrote, that the 50 Pfennige and 75 Pfennige are in a poor condition on the letter. Because of the gum they are in average condition, because you still have the gum on the stamp when they are on the letter. So it´s average condition, because you have many letters with that condition, even poorer.
I alos like the old Russian Zeppelin stamps, I have most of them. But not on a cover (they are very expensive and seldom), but as cancelled stamps. They are really pretty.
Overall Zeppelin stamps and covers are still very expensive. But if you look in Germany on auctions, there are many people who want to sell them. It seems that the interest is declining, but the prices are still high. I think this will change the next five years, there is too much material on the market and not so many people who want to pay the high prices. By the way: The red cancellation with the zeppelin and the plane you can see the Do X plane. No one of them exists today, they were all destroyed in WW2. In Germany there were collectors looking for covers especially for the Do X. Also a quite interesting possibility, but these covers are all rare.

Interesting fact about the company, which is famous for creation Zeppelin related philatilistic item. The company (Hermann E. Sieger) is located in Lorch/Württemberg (due to this is it very possible, that your cover is one of these Zeppelin items) and was involved in a scandel with American astronauts, who take philatilistic items with them to space. They got payed for this and - as I know - were punished by the NASA for doing it.

Hello Vikram, those sheets are clear stock pages. That particular brand that I am using in season 3 is Vario stock pages, they are made by Lighthouse. :) I hope this helps.
