Kamayan is actually not came from that☺️ is part of traditions long ago before the Spanish, Chinese,Japanese and American arrived in the Philippines. Kamayan is Filipino itself😊

Kamayan did not start with boodle fight. Kamayan has always been the way people ate especially in the countrysides of the Philippines. It also depends on the food. Of course you can't do kamayan with soup! Kamayan is universally how all people ate from evolution long before the invention of spoon and fork. There is something special about eating with bare hands. Our skin absorbs the flavors and it makes eating more delicious! 😊 I wish this the lady did a much better job in hyping up Pinoy food.

Madalas po sa kanila ay naka kamay lang kumakain na naka latag sa dahon ng saging. habang kumakanta o nakikinig ng musiko. Sa mga hindi po nakakaalam, tuwing fiesta or kasalan sa ibang mga probinsya. Nag papakain po sila na ang gamit ay dahon ng saging or yung balat ng puno ng saging. Wala pong kutsara.

When Magellan landed in 1521 in the Philippines, he is invited to a feast and it was documented in Pigaffetta's diary. It is a pre-colonial tradition that is still observed today. More than 500 years of history!

Filipinos have been using banana leaves for eating even before Magellan came. I was born in Leyte, in a rural agricultural area where there's plenty of coconut trees and banana plants. Eating with our bare hands using seared banana leaves (to sanitize and make them supple and strong) as our plate was, and still is, a common practice among us, esp.when having meals in the middle of a rice field or coconut grove, far away from one's own house.

Rose the chef looked nervous and quite struggled answering questions but still did a good job orienting the host with the kamayan tradition.
