I can only assume that the reason why Crest regional forces in Nexus chose to rebel is probably because they managed to figure out what the new resource exactly was and wanted it all considering their rather high looks towards AI, its probably that HQ didn't order the assault on the Navis city, but chose to cover up for the Regional forces as one could say Crest is a sucker for anything AI related for keeping order.
Crest... the red Vergil to Mirage's blue Dante. Also manufacturer of my favorite Sniper Rifle in all of AC games - CR-WR88RS3 (or CWG-SRF-40 as seen in video for a brief moment). Part of my fondness for that weapon is due to the fact said sniper rifle was given as a bonus to arguably easiest mission in Nexus. Solid performance overall was quite welcome though. Real workhorse that gets the job done.
Yeargh. Crest. Of all the Big 3, I think they were most self-destructive. They start AC3 in the #1 spot, above Mirage and Kisaragi. What do they do with that power? They protect a malfunctioning Controller, up to the point of trying to guilt trip you when you to to destroy the Controller. "Go, let's see what kind of world will be born from your decisions" or something like that, coming from a Crest representative. Then in Silent Line, they have the gall to try to recover the Controller's data by sending Cypress, that Clover Knight chick, and the entertainer guy. And those 3 lose 3v1. Then they have ChatGPT running all their fortresses on the surface, so when Mirage screws with the satellite, they have to send Ravens to power down their fortress (ChatGPT in real life could go out of control SO fast). Oh, and let's not talk about them building Lawdas Factory INSIDE the Silent Line, so it gets regularly bombarded by the laser satellite! What do they do in Nexus? They betray their ally, Navis, by sacking their HQ AND trying to kill off the convoy of survivors, including civilians. They try to take over Mirage's base with a large force lead by Agraya, but get repulsed by a single AC. Then when their tactical group refuses the order to withdraw, they decide to destroy their own expeditionary force, including Genobee, the rank 1 pilot at the time (similar to Alliance HQ vs. Alliance Tactical in Last Raven). Especially in Nexus, imagine the scenario where Crest honestly assists Navis in resisting Mirage. The theme of the game would have been much different. It seems Navis' employees were the only ones capable of keeping the suicide weapons in check, so if Navis were able to keep hold of the mine, the suicide weapons might not have ever launched their massive attack. Or even if the weapons got out of control, maybe there'd have been more survivors in Bayload City. Kisaragi would have either joined in, or at least remained neutral; they wouldn't have abandoned Navis and started attacking joint-ventures in this scenario. This could have lead to a scenario where the more evenly matched sides wear each other down, and there are more personal freedoms in a world with reduced corporate power. Unfortunately, From Software would probably never make such a story, since it violates the requirement for their games to be focused entirely on bleak nihilism. Compare this with Mirage in Nexus, where they're cutthroat and aggressive. They do fly a bunch of transports over Bayload City, which get shot down, but other than that one instance, I don't remember Mirage being self-destructive. The only Mirage areas you fight in are that one dam during that revenge mission on that filtration plant, which you took from Navis anyway. You never even fight in any major Mirage facilities or territories. So, Mirage was aggressive, but knew they had the resources to risk on the endeavor; their important assets were never at risk. Crest, on the other hand, did not do the proper calculations and lost much of their military. I think if the suicide weapons didn't destroy the world in Nexus, there'd be a drawn-out period of misery where Mirage is the uncontested power in the world and manages tyrannically. This is all because Crest won the Nexus war for Mirage.
