I just recently found this channel after deciding to get back into chess. Ben Finegold is probably the greatest instructor I have seen online. He does the analysis and theory, but he goes into great detail on the thought process and challenges you with questions that put you on the spot and make you think. Looking forward to another great vid, keep up the good work.
What I like most about Seirawan is his calm voice, enchanting storytelling and natural curiosity. But if you like challenging questions and intensive training, Akobian is probably your best choice. He challenges you the most to come up with ideas and solutions yourself.
Actually, the real reason the US teenagers don't do as well as the kids is that by that age they're spending a lot of time and energy trying to get mated.
um its funny but not accurate, Trump's pitfall is that he cut govt programs, if there were a president that would create a communist state out of the us it would have been Clinton or Obama.
(7:10) And apparently according to census data a very vast amount of them have the surname Naidoo, apparently it is so common that despite Indian being a vast minority in the country it is the most common surname in South Africa. I could imagine roll call at a Chatsworth primary school, so many answering to Naidoo.
+Timothy Barth No there are very distinct surnames that are used as surnames as in any Western English speaking country. Maybe it was like that once but not currently, surnames are kept regardless of anything about the father. Maybe in very remote rural areas and even then there is almost certainly at least a combination of having surnames according to a Western system but in general not really currently. This is definitely partly due to admin and government identification using a system that uses surnames that way.
I'm a big fan of the chess in the 21st century because the major tournaments get so drawish boring... great lecture, but the class wasnt dismissed properly.
Hey GM Finegold! Your "Donald jokes" are really hilarious. You could show a game where the stonewall opening is played and tell that the opening is very suspicious, but that's what you would expect from THE WALL.
buddy never spoil your jokes, it was actually a good joke but you wrote "THE WALL" and ruined it...just let people taste a joke... trust yourself dude! jokes are not for everyone, be selective
Thanks for your advice :D, but my goal was just that Ben would say something like that in his videos. I didn't originally meant to tell that joke myself.
Can you guys please do a video on dutch defence, i have a tournament after a weeks time. I have seen the classical and the leningard variations, and various gambits. But i am confused when to play stonewall, and when is the right moment to play e7-e5 break or c7-c5.
I recently started getting back into chess, I learned "Grobs attack" for fun but not one person has gone for it, I dont think its because they are too good to fall for it, I think its because they aren't good enough to see how to capture the pawn. The issue is that I move the pawn in the opening then suddenly I'm either behind or I continue to try to play it out and bait them but I eventually start to lose because they didn't play against it... I'm winning like 2/3 games anyway must because the computer gives me random matches and randoms usually suck but against anyone who has a decent understanding of chess would eventually beat me. how do I play grobs attack after 2 or 3 turns of them ignoring it?
Ben Finegold Method of playing artful chess. Step 1: Sacrifice all your pieces. Step 2: Mate the opponent. Am currently stuck on Step 1, any help would be v. appreciated. Lots of love, Every chess player ever, especially Me
"He should have played his knight back, but chess players don't like to retreat. That's why MVL is such a good player, because he's French......." Truth hurt! ;)
I noticed ben say that there was a girls only tournement. I never would have thought that chess would have split gendered tournaments like other sports. Why is this??
Step 1 Take a unknown position that has a closed pawn structure. Step 2 Call it the Trump pawn structure, and have Ben Simon humbly title the video "#BUILD THE WALL" Step 3 You can now discuss politics in Chess Lecture TH-cam videos. Very suspicious!
This is NOT a chess lecture, it is a very boring long trash talk...We want Akobian, Yasser and so on back !!! All this later Finegold videos are just annoying. The truth hurts...
What I learned today:
1. Never trade
2. Be born in the 21st century.
3. Right Arjun?
3.Always play Bf1
4.Never resign
5. plus tax
6.c4 is explosive
7. there are too many.
8. Ben is the boss
9. Ben is the best
10. Ben's rules
Terrible.
Very Suspicious!!
Lol
The truth hurts
17:29 "I showed this position to Anish Giri and he gave a perpetual." I'm dying. 😅😅
"I'm just kidding Anish" , *turns away* ,"Naw , I'm not kidding"

Try lectures of Varuzhan Akobian and Yasser Seirawan, they are marvels aswell!
Try the Schrantz lectures. Uniformly excellent.
Found out who Yasser Seirawan was through the London coverage. Indeed he is very good. I will check out Schrantz and Vaurzhan next! Thanks guys.

Ben: 'Attack doesnt work in theory, but in practise because?'
Audience: 'They are under 8'
XD
Actually, the real reason the US teenagers don't do as well as the kids is that by that age they're spending a lot of time and energy trying to get mated.
If only they tried to mate instead of get mated.
Maybe that's why men are better than women at chess? Lesbians should be good at chess too then
Average Johnson wtf?
more Finegold... I'm already liking 2017
What have I done to deserve so many Finegold videos?! LOVE IT!
Ben found a picture of Lasker and then he looked for a better one
Perfect.
But he saw it.
Terrible.
Boom!😂😂😂😂😂
These lectures are great, there is so much to learn from kids who have great ideas but are somewhat incomplete players.
Argen is an absolute legend
It's Arjun
@@mercronniel3122 it's actually r-jin
I hoped he'd say 'He cried for the whole game? Wow, solid!"
Hahahahaha
Someone needs to get on that head in a jar technology to save Ben's head so he can lecture in the 22nd century... AND BEYOND!!!
the joke about how there will soon be a second soviet Georgia is a nice subtle jab at Trump. kudos to Ben for sneaking that in there.
um its funny but not accurate, Trump's pitfall is that he cut govt programs, if there were a president that would create a communist state out of the us it would have been Clinton or Obama.
Shots fired! Dammit, ben, I'm only 20 seconds in...
I like it. My New Year's resolution is to watch Finegold's lectures.
Love how GM Ken West was invited to the wedding.

Peter Smythe thats because south africans rarely have surnames
+Timothy Barth
Not sure what you mean.
Peter Smythe south africans rarely have surnames. they just go by names only. if needed their surname is their father's name.
+Timothy Barth

what would you do if you lose your knight? "resign and cry"

I want to see arjun so bad :(
"Why are you laughing? You didn't get that." Ben, you kill me
he does great lectures
did ben lost weight?
Freddd 23 He did
Lost?? He lost nothing. He sacrificed a few pounds for a queen.
He actually gained material and he also mated...
LOL
That cold blooded joke cracked me up. Ben is awesome!
Drinking game: every time ben says "right arjun" -drink
Btw can anybody tell me who is this arjun?
he is a kid from saint luis club that is very good for his 8 years old i assume and goes to a lot of lectures
Arjun is known as a prodigy for being the youngest person ever to master Finegold's memes.
6:08
“He could trade his opponent’s pieces without trading his own”
That’s the ideal, isn’t it 😂😂

Farrel Arraniry I have a book on dutch defence by Neil Mcdonald, but a lecture by jonathan or Mr. Ben Finegold would be great.
Hey Benôit, who do you think would win in a fight? Paul morphy or le von Aron Ian?
im from Atlanta!!
I am truely sorry for your lots.
Ben forever!
I feel like I am growing up with Arjun
Did someone know if Arjun has a fide profile? i want to see his games
I don't know his last name. I think he has a USCF profile though!
21...Qxg2 checkmate with advantage forking the 2 Rooks 🕵very suspicious 😎☻
Giri is a very fine chess player.

Play f3 to support the pawn on g4 and then develop your queenside pieces. And if black moves his e pawn, always play Bf1!
Thanks ill try to keep this in mind! I just wish i could see it first hand is all.
That Anish Giri joke was pretty good
:O Finegold is back?!?!?!??! FUCK YES!
Right Arjun?
What Programm are they using in those videos? And where can i get it?
Thank you
GO GO GM FINEGOLD! =D

Soviet Georgia LMAO ...
@@Noah-wv4td yeah but he's also talking about the Georgia in the USA
If you read chess article...which insinuate that you can read... right Arjun
hahaahhaha
7:51 how suspicious
Well, you can't mate and not also threaten the pawn on b2. Gotta keep an eye on it, it might be a voter in Georgia.
I noticed ben say that there was a girls only tournement. I never would have thought that chess would have split gendered tournaments like other sports. Why is this??
Durban made Jordy Smith.
13:45
Rawrrrrrrrr

If Ben Finegold was a drug I'd be an addict
durban is famous for fernando pessoa
0:50 I'm surprised you didn't say "...but not at the same time." So disappointing.
Stop censuring the humor

Theory and practice work in theory but not in practice ..hahaha..just great.
Hahahahahaha FINE GOLD FOR PRESIDENT 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I bet arjan doesn't exist and they're just mentioning him as as an inside joke
He does. He has done lectures with Johann Schrantz.
Ben & Arjun > Han & Chewy
Durban South Africa is well known for what? That´s right-nothing LOL
Soviet Georgia? I have been disappointed :)
