  • Trakker-backed carp angler Alex Shorrock shows you how to tie and set up his favourite pop-up rig for catching carp in the spring, the Naked Chod Rig.
    In this tutorial, Alex Shorrock shows you not only how to tie the naked chod rig, but also provides you with some useful tips, tactics and tricks to get the most out of this fantastic spring carp fishing rig.
    Due to its ability to present itself over a variety of lake beds, the Naked Chod Rig lends itself to spring fishing as it gives you confidence that you're presented when casting at showing fish.
    Alex's version of the Naked Chod Rig using our Chod hooks give great hook holds and can be used in the UK or overseas to catch big carp. When set up this way, it's the perfect carp rig for fishing as a single hook bait or over a wide spread of boilies.

    I spoke to a very well known angler at length about chod fishing and he also reports rarely dropping fish on them. His opinion is that the majority of hook pulls from chods are to do with people not using pop ups that retain buoyancy so the fish are hooked on a drooped over chod section. I think it’s good practice to also fish as light a lead as possible with them

    There is a stop bead/ledger stop between the lead and the chord rig, which will slow it down or stop it hitting the lead when you get a take.

    I've just got back onto using chod on 1 Rod, but i use it semi naked with a section of lead core with the lead removed and drop off style because of the snags

    Good video and explanation of the chod rig but why such a short distance between the two beads, mine can have a distance of 7ft when fishing in weed and 2 ft over clean areas.

      Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. Just personal preference really, with a naked chod I’m generally fishing over very low lying weed, chod or silt so always wanting some sort of drop.
      I’m sure you’d be fine fishing the beads higher but I prefer the hooking potential of having the beads close together. If I was fishing over heavier stuff, personally I’d opt to use a lead core leader and have the beads further apart then you’ve got the weight of the lead core then.
      Thanks, Alex

      U don’t need it that far part fishing over cleaner areas 1ft is fine if fishing over heavier stuff move the head up accordingly love chod fishing always use 1 ft of leadcore at the bottom where the lead is and have a bead sitting on the top and it will slide down under pressure to the heli safe

  • @jb7s
    @jb7s 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Surely a heli safe and lead core or fluro boom section is better for the fish than naked on a clip?

    im recently getting back into carping after 15 years, some fisheries are saying no fixed lead is this fixed on the clip or is this ok to use?

  • @GoneFishingVlog
    @GoneFishingVlog 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    What I don’t understand is, if you are not dropping the led and the hook is 8inches from the weight and the way it’s positioned. Doesn’t it just smash into the carp when you’re playing it in ?

    • @alex_shorrock
      @alex_shorrock 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi bud, partly why I only use a 2oz lead or less as you’ve got the potential of the hook pulling then. If I’m wanting to cast longer and using a heavier lead I’d drop the lead.
      In terms of damage being done to the fish with a 2oz lead hovering around its head it’s never going to happen. Remember, we’ve just stuck a size 4 hook in its mouth

    The only thing that is never mentioned in regard to chod fishing is water depth. My syndicate is 18ft deep!!! So at say 50 yards of further that is one hell of a lot of slack line. So my question is? Are they only really usable or effective below a certain depth???

    • @TrakkerTV
      @TrakkerTV  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hi Darryl. They’re really effective at all depths. If I’m fishing a deep weedy water I’d still fish with a slack line, just fish locked up so they can only take so much. The other thing with deep water you’d have to consider with them is the water pressure affecting the boyancy of the pop up so plug it with cork or use a cork ball pop up. Regards Alex
