Though often romanticised today, medieval India wasn't a paradise: its denizens suffered under huge agrarian taxes, and did not hesitate to revolt against their rulers. Anirudh Kanisetti explains the story of the Kaivarta Rebellion, which toppled the Pala Dynasty of Bengal in the 12th century.

Love these small history snippets. Please consider doing longform content (if possible then in an orderly manner from pre-historic to mediaeval period).
I second this.
Excellent work Anirudh, fascinating snippet of history you got us here. Just lower the speed a bit - the captions couldnt catch up
awesome content anirudh!! i was thinking as delhi sultanate defeated senas not palas before establishing their dominion over bengal, meaning there was another power that has risen after palas, it would be interesting to know what kind of relationship it has with peasants and minor cheifmen of upper bengal and what is their perspective on change of rulers from senas to sultans
Hi Kartheek,
Thank you for supporting ThePrint's journalism.
Fascinating ❤
Anirudh, Just ordered your book (Lords of the Deccan) on Amazon. So glad to have discovered you!
Pala (Pal, Paul) is a common surname in Bengal and the pesant caste in Bengal is still called Kaivartas who are in very large numbers among rural Hindus.
It will be lot’s better if the presenter slows down the delivery of the flow
The contents are admirable
Bro please go at 0.75x or 0.5x speed. Love this series btw, keep em coming...

I agree @muralidharani1597 . You can set you playback speed to 0.75 so that you can listen to it at a speed that suits your comfort
@@rajivramanjani8706 that is complicated
All may not have the skills to do that!!!
@@muralidharanr1597it isn't complicated. Turn on that settings and find for the speed section.change it as you like it
Kaivartas were from my ancestral region, Varendra Bhumi which is undivided north bengal
Palas & Gurjara pratihara made a mess in that era which weakened the nation & made easy path for invaders.
Interesting perspective
@@priyanks91I mean these dudes were losing control of their vassals left and right and were fighting each other and rashtrakutas as well. Pratiharas really stopped the Islamic onslaught for centuries but due to the tripartite struggle they really weakened themselves up and eventually dooming India.
By the way, which train do you have to catch?
You don't need to be so fast I think 0.5 of your current speed will be faster than Shekhar ji CTC speed.
You have your option to reduce playback speed in TH-cam.
@@prakash86anish wow.what a great info!!!
He is speaking too fast and it will be good for almost everyone if he speaks a bit slower and almost everyone needs not to change TH-cam settings.
Why hurry... Does print give you less time! Highly uncomfortable with speed of language.
I think you should speak slowly for those who are not versed in history to understand and follow
reduce the playback speed. that will help
Bengal seems to have periodic peasant uprisings kaivarta, tebhaga and few years back nandigram.
I agree with others in the comment section, if you can narrate a bit slower. It would be better. Anyway, great to hear from someone who has read history from different perspectives and that has evidence to back it up.

What is this south Asia? It is insidious to use the newly coined term that seeks to slowly erase the India from what was historically, culturally and geographically the Indian subcontinent.
Well, yes the past can be complex, but how is it innovative?
Too fast narration,if you listen to your Video, you won’t be able to make out what you are saying,Good Subject.
Anirudh, your content is good but please make sure to go to number 1-2 before shooting for the video.😜
People are reading all kinds of WhatsApp history but they are not watching a proper History lesson here.
You are doing great work here.
Love this guy and his simple way of presentation - It is high time we learn about history with no emotions and no mawkish sentiments.
0.75×
maybe you could add proper subtitles? somewhere between his thick accent and speed hes mostly unintelligible. at least get a narrator who doesn't have a thick accent?
why didn't Indians write their history comprehensively like thr chinese did
Bro you need to slow the F down
Your previous videos like the one on global arms trade (in warhorses) were at a comprehensible speed. But recently everything just whooshes over the head due to the MG-42 Machine Gun-esque speech.
Exactly
I had to pause and replay to understand what he was saying.
