It seems that Wang's character is already an established fighter of sorts. He'd already been taught by Mr. Han. From the synopsis he moves to NY from China; a strong rival is established who he is unable to beat; and basically he learns to blend Kung Fu and Karate together to overcome his adversary. That's basically why he already looks like he's doing some pretty advanced fighting/parkour moves as opposed to "just learning how to fight but somehow doing all these high-flying moves"
yeah, i think so. i'm also thinking he is already pretty good but has a hit a ceiling. he needs a higher philosophical understanding or mental element to make the breakthrough, which is where daniel comes in. kung fu and karate may be different 'branches' but they come from the same philosophical tree/source which he needs to understand in order to hit that higher level.
I think the kid jumping and bouncing off walls (so to speak) is way easier to digest because it's been established that this kid has been training pretty extensively for a while. So he's not just "picking it up" the way Daniel, Dre, and the Cobra Kai kids were. Everything he's doing in his training sequences in this trailer show he's probably way more legit than the Cobra Kai kids lol.
As a Martial Artist and historian of the arts, I love how both Gung Fu and Karate themes merge, love the “Two Branches One Tree” element as Karate does owe its roots to Chinese Arts. In fact the original term used to depict what later became known as Karate was Tuudii Te or Tang te which means China Hand. Very cool
I'm really excited for this film!!! From the articles/interview I've read, the director said he contacted the Cobra Kai creators and had their input on how to do the film without ignoring everything that came before in the Cobra Kai series. So hopefully, things get addressed like the events of Cobra Kai and that the Cobra dojo itself still had an impact and exists somehow.
Kristian, The way this trailer is cut and edited put together, score sound/mixing, bringing the music in and out Amazing, well done he or she and / or team. I'm hyped for this movie
@@Lordoftheapes79 The new movie's functioning as a sequel to the original KK movies, the Jaden Smith KK movie, and Cobra Kai. Director Jonathan Entwistile confirmed that the new movie simply takes place after Cobra Kai ends.
I'm stoked for it. I am so happy to see this franchise reborn and be successful. Most people forget Cobra Kai was originally a youtube series which they dropped and it was picked up by Netflix. Now its a highly rated, extremely successful franchise. Migayi forever!
we also gotta give credit to barney stinson from how i met your mother! he brought back the daniel and johhny and had the thought that the true karate kid was johnny so cobra kai was created and really made johhny the star!
In a world where ssssoooooo many trailers have the same structure/edits, this one was excellent imho. I loved it. It still had some of the usual tricks for sure (cut to black, stopping the audio and then fade in to a shot with a voice over) but apart from that, I loved they didn't use a popular song or went overboard with an epic track. The audio part was pretty subtle in a way and they chose great shots overall to establish the tone (if it's indeed a bit more serious than Cobra Kai). I'm actually excited for this movie. Side note: I don't think we were meant to understand that this new kid starts from zero...quite the opposite. He already learned a lot from Jackie Chan's character but it's not enough to beat his rival, so here comes Daniel. That's what I think anyway.
Well it seems from the trailer he is a trained fighter in china. When he moves to America, its apparent he needs help from his sensei who asks Daniel for help.
This looks great. I have seen all Karate Kid movies in theater and waiting on final 5 cobra Kai episodes to drop so I can binge final season. This student is not new to martial arts unlike Daniel in OG movie. Looking forward to it.
But from this trailer, he's clearly not JUST learning how to fight. He's been doing it for a while and is very skilled. The story doesn't seem to be him learning how to fight, but something deeper.
This looks much more 'old world' which I love. I can't see how they don't tie in some aspects of Cobra Kai, even if it's just 1 or 2 things like bringing in Daniel's wife briefly. They already have the dojo in scene. I grew up in the 80's with the movies, Cobra Kai is my favorite show on streaming right now, and I'll be there opening night!
I didn't know about this at all until I saw a poster in the theater when going to see War of the Rohirrim the other day. I thought this trailer was hype. Loved the Jackie Chan version (I really hope he's still playing Mister Han. I couldn't tell from the trailer) and I've loved Cobra Kai and I'm so excited to see these two characters together. I thought I wouldn't see LaRusso or anyone else after CK ends so it's such a surprise to me who hasn't followed movie news in a while.
I can understand what you’re saying about the walk stuff but you gotta also understand it’s a newer generation and the youth have more creativity to try stuff with moves.. to be riskier . It’s like when cage fighters started doing jump kicks off the cage and like whoa never thought to do that . It’s a generation thing , they’ve also seen so many fighting movies by this time it’s unrealistic to think they wouldn’t want to try stuff they’ve seen regardless of it succeeded or fail .
This movie feels like Shang Chi a little bit seeing Jackie Chan in this is perfect and paying tribute to Pat Morita is great to see having Ralph Macchio come back makes perfect sense.
I found Cobra Kai from you introducing Collider Live to it cause those doods loved Karate Kid as much as you and I loved Star Wars at the tiem. That made me watch and love the show so without that show I definetly would have skipped this movie but because of that I'm going to check this out in theaters.
As someone that adored the original movie and hasn't seen anything else from the franchise except the 2010 reboot, I am all in on this. It looks emotional, poignant, exciting and reminiscent of the original. I might go back and go through the entire franchise to catch up for this.
I'm cool with some crazy karate sequences if it's clear the kid actor is super talented and doing it himself. Sort of like the old Jackie Chan movies. They were fun because you knew Jackie was doing it and they were shot in long takes without tons of edits. Where Cobra Kai sometimes feels off is yes...because they were all supposed to be new to karate...but also because it's pretty obvious most of those actors can't do those things in real life.
I haven't seen Cobra Kai I haven't watched Karate Kid in ages This trailer ROCKS! Can we get back to not dragging expectations baggage and just being intrigued because it looks like a good movie?
I have never seen Cobra Kia, but did watch the original movie. Maybe I should watch Cobra Kia, I am aware over the years how many have enjoyed this series. 😁🎬👍🏾🤔
Ben Wang’s move from the fire escape ladder to the wall to the kick was bad ass. Probably used wires but still looks great. Curious to see if they’ll go deep and connect Miyagi-Do Karate to Chan’s Kung Fu as Miyagi-Do does trace its origins to China, when Miyagi’s ancestor landed in China after he got caught up in a storm while fishing. Overall looking forward to this and now curious if Chan will show up at the very end of Cobra-Kai to ask Daniel for help.
I actually think it's a good idea to have some Cobra Kai elements because it's all the same universe. The more far-fetched stuff is part of the Karate Kid world now, so to keep some of that sprinkled in here just makes this franchise feel that much more connected and consistent.
Curious to see how everything plays out since this takes place 2-3 years after the Cobra Kai Series Finale which won’t even see until February next year
Man I haven't been excited for anything karate kid since the second one in the 80s...this looks great imo just leave corba kai to itself and not have anything to do with those characters on that show...
It looks so good! It was kinda weird that Mr. Han said this new kid is his Daniel instead of Dre but I'm hoping we hear some back story on that. I was afraid this would feel separated from Cobra Kai but it definitely feels like the same universe. Just a much bigger budget.
I was hoping to see in the trailer a connection Chan had with Miyagi if there was one historically. That maybe they met long ago. Let’s wait and see. But overall this trailer gave me goosebumps.
I am worried Sony is going to pull a "Wandvision" with this - where the movie (Multiverse of Madness) barely acknowledges the TV show. Acknowledging and respecting the universe the franchise has built is extremely important. But that is not the way Sony executives think - and you know they don't care about universe story connectivity because of how they treat Spiderman. So . . . very worried about this.
Every mixed martial arts action movie has everyone pushing off walls and doing crazy flips and fights. I don’t get what you mean. This is going to be crazy lit. I’m excited for this. Forget cobra Kai. This is karate kid.
戦士の誉れだ 🙇♂️🙇♂️🥋🥋🥷🥷⛩️⛩️ (You honor this warrior.) "Senshi no homare da." Because my anger is getting healed and better, and because of your praises reaction 😊😌👏✨️💕💖
I love Kobra Kai, but I dont need those connections in this movie as long as it doesnt contradict them. This seems to be world building, not remaking, and I'm all for it. I'm super excited for this.
Who ever edited this trailer needs a raise this was great
Agreed
I agree. Love the trailer!
It seems that Wang's character is already an established fighter of sorts. He'd already been taught by Mr. Han. That's how I read this trailer as well

I love the call back to karate kid 2, using the drum for the build up of the score here. Little touches like that is what made cobra kai special.
Very cool
I think you didnt realize that this kid has already been trained he is not a beginner in this movie if I understand correctly
I'm really excited for this film!!! This actually doesn’t look bad not gonna lie. I love Jackie Chan. I’m happy Daniel’s in it. I just wish the cobra Kai kids could be on it in someway.
My guess is some of them might but depends on what happens after Cobra Kai finishes. Also hoping Jaden Smith makes an appearance but who knows
I don't mind them not being in this one, so long as they don't retconn them out or recast his wife and kids.

I recognized Ben Wang from American Born Chinese, glad to see he's getting into film
me too!!
I Definitely Looking Forward To This Plus Seeing Ralph And Jackie On Screen Continue The Legendary Of The Franchise.Awesome Reaction.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I'm in for this one. Just to see Ralph Macchio on the big screen is worth the price of admission.
Wow!!! Jackie Chan & Ralph Macchio… LEGENDS!!
This looks really good, I hope it is.
I’m an 80’s kid…you had me at Ralph Macchio!
The torch is being passed...

I'm stoked for it. I am so happy to see this franchise reborn and be successful. Most people forget Cobra Kai was originally a youtube series which they dropped and it was picked up by Netflix. Now its a highly rated, extremely successful franchise. Migayi forever!
I was born in 1981 there for the original movies and loved Cobra Kai I can't wait for this movie 🍿🎥
we also gotta give credit to barney stinson from how i met your mother! he brought back the daniel and johhny and had the thought that the true karate kid was johnny so cobra kai was created and really made johhny the star!

100% there for it
My kids all want to see it.
Well it seems from the trailer he is a trained fighter in china. When he moves to America, its apparent he needs help from his sensei who asks Daniel for help.
Love the tone. But I'm a "Karate Kid/Cobra Kai" fan...So I'm here for it all!
This looks great. I have seen all Karate Kid movies in theater and waiting on final 5 cobra Kai episodes to drop so I can binge final season. This student is not new to martial arts unlike Daniel in OG movie. Looking forward to it.
Within 30 seconds the trailer had me. I'm in!
But from this trailer, he's clearly not JUST learning how to fight. He's been doing it for a while and is very skilled. The story doesn't seem to be him learning how to fight, but something deeper.

Shot in my hometown (Montreal)! Looks better and more serious than expected.

This looks pretty good! It gives me similar vibes to Karate Kid 2. By the way I dig the "Lost" T-shirt!
Looks good and I will definitely check it out. I am onboard with anything in the Karate Kid universe.
I’m in the theater for this too.
This looks fantastic, hopefully the tone of this trailer sticks
This kid is great in "American Born Chinese" on Disney Plus.
Also he did not run up and jump off a wall. He was holding on to a ladder.
this looks awesome
Looks really good to me! Can't wait! 👍

I’m watching it first weekend
That looks gooooood
If the kid was already into parkour it can make sense why he’s naturally jumping off the walls etc
I cant beleive Jackie Chan is only 70, it feels he has been around forever. He has still got it!
living legend
Looks great man! I’m in 100%!
Looks freaking good, and hope it is.
Cobra Kai is Freakin awesome you get all the homages of the first 3 movies but it has comedy and a soap opera feel! 😊💜
Off topic, your t-shirt convinced me to subscribe immediately
You gotta admit, not bad for the 1st Trailer… 😮

That Kid is from that one show American born Chinese on Netflix. He was pretty good in that. This looks interesting.
I haven't seen Cobra Kai
I haven't watched Karate Kid in ages
This trailer ROCKS!

AWESOME SHIRT!! Lost doesnt get enough credit nowadays
I have never seen Cobra Kia, but did watch the original movie. Maybe I should watch Cobra Kia, I am aware over the years how many have enjoyed this series. 😁🎬👍🏾🤔
Feel like this revolves around Mr Han and Miyagi connection to the Drum technique from K2. Since its the background music here
Yes hopefully we'll get cameos gallore
Ben Wang’s move from the fire escape ladder to the wall to the kick was bad ass. Probably used wires but still looks great.

Karate kid 4!😊
I now have plans May 30th.
the kid is already trained enough to do what you see him do. daniel is there to balance him out
i need some cobra kai alum in it, thats why i care about karate kid still to this day
I am intrigued for now want to see full trailer for sure when it comes out
Curious to see how everything plays out since this takes place 2-3 years after the Cobra Kai Series Finale which won’t even see until February next year
Man I haven't been excited for anything karate kid since the second one in the 80s...this looks great imo just leave corba kai to itself and not have anything to do with those characters on that show...
It’s looks solid, I’m not expecting it to win an Oscar. It’s def on my watch list.
It looks so good! It was kinda weird that Mr. Han said this new kid is his Daniel instead of Dre but I'm hoping we hear some back story on that. I was afraid this would feel separated from Cobra Kai but it definitely feels like the same universe. Just a much bigger budget.
The Production should have included Julie Pierce as well from “The Next Karate Kid” movie
Parkour karate mix is insane
I think this trailer was setting up he’s already well trained. Likely a troubled kid learning to be more disciplined
Guys if you had the subtitles on. Every time Jackie spoke in the trailer, they have him as Mr. Han..
Lets be honest, Cobra Kai became Power Rangers.
this going to be good for sure
I was hoping to see in the trailer a connection Chan had with Miyagi if there was one historically. That maybe they met long ago. Let’s wait and see. But overall this trailer gave me goosebumps.
I just hope for a couple of Cobra Kai cameos. Maybe at the end. Maybe it leads to a second movie with the Cobra Kai kids helping this new kid out.

Would be cool if they had some surprise cameos in here like Chozen or Johnny or even any of the kids even for just one scene.
I would consider that NECESSARY - not a surprise.
I thought the kid was the short guy who fit in a box in Oceans 12 or 13. Then I realized that guy must be too old already by now. 😂
I love Kobra Kai, but I dont need those connections in this movie as long as it doesnt contradict them. This seems to be world building, not remaking, and I'm all for it. I'm super excited for this.
I’d like to see Hilary Swank show up either in Cobra Kai or the end of this movie when Daniel comes back home.
That was the reboot. With Jaden smith
I got emotional seeing Daniel-san
Why tho? Hes been in cobra kai the whole time its not like we haven’t seen him in years anymore.
Karate vengers assemble!
I think the kid is related to Mr. Miyagi! Also, I think Miguel and Johnny make a cameo.
I gotta know about that shirt
I'm apprehensive, but curious. I'll check it out.
Trailer gave me Creed (2015) vibes.
