FINALLY! A balanced, fair and insightful review of Yuki Tsunoda. You stand out against the masses of opportunistic ad hoc Yuki """fans""" talking out of their backsides. Subbed and joined the Discord, keep it up!
Great stuff, about time we saw some in-depth analysis of why RBR decided the way they did. There was definitely more to this than the results of the last 6 races v Lawson. Lawson also had things working against him outside of his control. Mexico Piastri penalty. Vegas they botched his car set up. Then AD they forgot to put his wheel on in the pit. If it wasn’t for those things I think it would have been far more obvious to the casual viewer.
A big one was that he could have had a podium at Brazil if race control didn't send out a safety car for no reason, when there had been no accident, when Liam was on the correct wet tyres and the rest of the field was on intermediates in heavy rain and should have been forced to pit for wet tyres. Could easily have been Lawson and Yuki on the podium instead of the Alpines without that poor decision from race officials. Without Ricciardo's penalty at Texas he doesn't start 19th and finishes much higher than 9th.
The negative rhetoric towards Lawson has made me a fan .. of Lawson. He was mighty in DTM and showed enough to win SF. He’s a skilled peddler and has an old head. Hope he goes really well in his first full F1 season. Happily subscribed
One thing most commentators miss is that Lawson is terrific with the media. Smart, good-looking, big smile, easy manner. If he can keep that up, I think he’ll replace Ricciardo as a fan favourite. And for Red-Bull I think that counts with top management.
I I love your analysis and it's the first time anybody has been so clean and thorough. I believe that Yuki has peaked, he's already shown all he is capable of. It's those structural flaws that you point out that makes him unworthy of a numer one team. He is an average to below average driver.
To me something that was overlooked is that it was his best season in F1. Yet, at some points he was getting matched or beaten by a pretty washed Daniel Ricciardo. And to add to that, Liam came in and beat him in race pace and almost matched his quali pace.On top of that he crashed multiple times on his own. To me he’s consistent but the only moments of his career where you go “wow” is when he finished P4 in Abu Dhabi 3 years ago and when he qualified P3 in Brazil. He almost doesn’t show moments of brilliance so to me he’s nothing special, just good.
Great breakdown. Could you do a video on what Red Bull would want from a driver number 2? What skills and likely maneuvers would they have to do? Finally, who on the field (or could be on the field) would you recommend?
I like that you are exploring different types/styles of content, also thanks for making it simple for someone like me who is relatively new to motorsport regarding Yuki not getting the Red Bull promotion. P.S.- I'm looking into getting into sim racing after watching a bunch of videos all over the website and would like to know what brand or type of equipment should I start with. Keep it up with the good work m8 👍🏾
My pleasure, glad you enjoyed the video 👍🏻 I would advise starting with either a Logitech G27 or Thurstmaster TMX Wheel with Pedals. These are both entry level and affordable. If you want to get something more advanced there are plenty of mid level direct drive wheel bases from companies but i would be remiss if i didnt suggest VRS fro these sorts of Wheel bases & Pedals where I have a link in my description
I dont think the Honda connection has stopped him from gettting the rbr seat i think it has stopped him from.beimg replaced at rb though with how ruthless the rb system is he would.have been replaced if he didnt have the honda connection
Yuki had his chance more than once over the 3 years and he blew it. Laim Lawson had only 10 races and more than handled himself, Bugger for Yuki, Yep Yep for Laim from where I sit
Tbh I really don’t understand why anyone (apart from the man himself but can’t really blame him can you) is this upset about Lawson getting the seat over Tsunoda since most people, from what I’ve seen, agree that Lawson has a higher ceiling So why in all heavens should Red Bull give the seat to the less promising driver over more than one season when it also looks like the tests in Red Bull cars suggested that Lawson was more comfortable with the special characteristic than Tsunoda was (from what I’ve read, the first impressive test he delivered was the end of season test at Abu Dhabi a few weeks ago)
the less experienced driver in a powerful car isnt a good recipe for success, we saw what happened to gasly and albon. if he has a bad season (and he will) he'll be scapegoated like the others were. the alpha tauri is there to help the younger drivers gain experience and prove themselves, if tsunoda has a poor season all they need to do is promote the now more experienced lawson
@ That’s the way Red Bull have been doing it up to Perez But as you can see from Perez, their approach has changed massively and it had to as well since they won’t find a driver who is within two tenths of Verstappen all the time, is okay with playing second fiddle without hesitation and is also not Carlos Sainz. So Lawson will probably get more time even if the first season is bad…Perez only got dropped when it got disastrous and I don’t think it will get there for Lawson because his F1 driving style probably hasn’t cemented itself yet and when the Red Bull is everything you’ve ever properly known it might not be as bad…we’ll see though Also Albon was closer to Verstappen than Perez was, that’s as much success as they’ve gotten in that department😂
@WataOtta upon review I don't think he's developed enough. He has got some great performances in him but he undoes all that by the continuing to make the mistakes I highlighted in the video. Other F1 drivers haven't been afforded the time Yuki has and with 25 being his last year in Red Bull system he really needs a clean 2025.
@@stuffeyy This is all very true, he makes alot of race and pace ending errors throughout his career and which all have slowed down his contribution on paper and on track. it would also be very difficult for him to get the RBR seat with Lawson now officially Max’s teammate, how devoted The RBR board are to lawson as the 2nd and how confident and talented Lawson is. i think Yuki should consider somewhere outside the Red Bull team. He isn’t getting any younger and he definitely needs a team that doesn’t go through this sister promotion chaos.
@@skiran6316 cause thats how F1 is, Theo Pourchaire is a good example. Good driver but not everyone who is talented is required. He also needs to be fit into the right environment which all contribute towards some team’s desire for drivers.
I think you could have ended the video after you mentioned Yuki's relationship with Honda. Absent from your review was some of the questionable decisions by the strategy team within RB.
This was not about where elements were out of Yuki's control but those that are within his control that most likely have had an influence on him being overlooked also.
Then why open you video with the comment on Honda? And could Yuki's results been better if his race strategy had been better? What did Franz Tost say at the end of 2023?. Either way Happy New Year.@@stuffeyy
@@jimrivett9926Becuase the Honda connection is the primary reason not the only reason. While doing the research for the video, i personally saw that there were not too manyraces that strategy had caused Yuki to lose out in point scoring positions. Yes there were races his results ere affected but still once again not enough that would help him over than Honda hurdle. Happy New Year to you too! :)
Yuki is Honda sponsored and their deal ends in 2025 why would you put yourself to reconstruct again people are overreacting simple. I dont see same outcry when sauna gets overlooked for kimi

@Torero2901 that's what I always try to do here.

Fans should value in not crashing like they should
This season twice when Yuki was out in Q1 in a sprint weekend, Lawson made it into Q3.
There are many caveats to the 6-0 of Yuki's quali over Liams.
Nice analysis. Liked and subbed.
Me too

This is great! Seen so much bias about this decision, this feels very objective and needed
Make sure you show this to spanners!!! Good breakdown
