How many Messi card collectors are in the future matters long term.. If there would be only 10 Messi collectors in every 1 million cities (512) in the world they should take 16 cards to they collection to reach 81 920 Messi cards... Or only 5 collectors on every 1 million in the megacities of Tokyo, New York, Paris, London, Buenos Aires and Shanghai to collect only 16 Messi cards to get about 80 000 Messi cards.. Now there are about only 10 Messi collectors on each continent? If they have 16 cards its 960.. So when card market gets global what happen to Messi demand??
Really appreciate the insight, that is nutty to see with all the data! Feels like the important sets will be crazy high priced for the serial numbered Messi stuff, and the other "lesser" sets could be in some degree of trouble further down the line.
Great video and a great rant on "don't just blindly buy serial numbered cards".... makes me feel even better about Messi rookies (or even better about Pele/Cruyff/Maradona rookies).... I would pick the Super Nova Messi as it looks cool... but anytime I buy an ultra modern card I do so with the thought that it will never be re-saleable for my purchase price... I do it purely for eye appeal and to add to the collection
Is it always about investing or should you buy things and people you like. Not everything is about what you can get for resale. Some Messi cards I truly find attractive. Thanks for your exhaustive research.
Very interesting video. I agree and think for Messi from the Modern Sets (only) 1st (Chrome, Prizm, Finest) should be important. I also like the 1st Inception from Messi (Only Problem with this Product is the Checklist: It has some player double and other important one not at all). One thing that really confused me: I have never heard anybody say that the Messi 2004 Mundicromo is "not investable". Sure compared to the other rookies it has a relativ high printrun, but most of the time people talk very positiv about that card and in most rankings its at least his 3rd best rookie. From the list of cards you listed to pick i woul choose the Living Set for sure. Having said that i dont really like any of the coices too much.
great video and data. Was it the first donruss you were leaning towards on the end question? Was thinking that or optic, but maybe Barca shirt wins out
I would probably take the Obsidian. A die cut card has so many corners/curved edges that probably increase the risk of damage. A card like that which grades a 9 may be a little more rare? Plus I am not a Donruss or Optic fan.
That Messi Topps A.D. card is from a set (subset) called: Alphonso Davies - My Journey. On the back you will find Davies' commentary about the player pictured on the front.
Great analysis, im probably taking the gold standard argentina kit PSA 9. Tough grades, but I mean I wouldnt buy it when I could buy a messi rookie for 3x that price.
When I first got into soccer 18 months ago I started buying like topps finest /99 etc but I realised the insane supply and then sold them all and only touch 3 main sets now for modern, 2017 TC, treble and 2014 WC. Plus autos.
You forgot the most special sauce of all, is it a rookie card. Rafael Leao has only 23 numbered rookie cards, Saka only 252. Those are the important numbers.
Good video, but 80,000 numbered cards is not a lot for the greatest player of all time in the sport. He is probably one of the only football players worth investing in.

Very illuminating, thank you.

I’ll take the Obsidian. Looks great. How about you ?

Great video, the serial numbered cards are cool but overpriced most of the time
Living set
