Thank you for the positive review on the Mermaid Linden Monofin by Body Glove! I'm so excited that now that adult monofins are available as well!! :-D Happy and safe mermaiding to you!!! xoxo ~Mermaid Linden
I've actually introduced a few mers to my monofins (they were already competent swimmers). One young girl on the autism spectrum immediately took to the Fin Fun, then the Luna. Another young lady preferred the Luna to the Fin Fun (felt "lighter", aka, less resistance to water). An experienced mer who had never used the Luna loved it. My cousin and I both also have Mahinas. She adores hers (middle aged roundish semi-athletic woman) and mine fits me (older middle aged roundish sort of athletic arthritic woman) well... now to swim in it. I love the Luna's flow and feel, but want a bit more power. Thanks for all the reviews, it truly helps see what will work for us.
My parents bought me a Finis rapid back when I was 11 I recently got it out of storage and it's still pretty great even at 17! I will admit that the rubber adjusters broke and I was too lazy to get a proper replacement so I just use shoelaces (yes, I'm dumb, I know) It still fits pretty well and even though it's bent a bit I love it and I'll never stop using it (or at least until it gets dangerously damaged or doesn't fit)
Thank you, this is such a helpful video. I have a finis wave I've been practicing with for a year and love it, and now I'm looking into tails and this gave me a lot to think about. I was starting to look at some tails that come with very flexible monofins, and I'm realizing now I wouldn't like them. At least not right now.
Would you recommend the mermaid linden child’s Monofin for a 12 year old that has a foot size that’s around 6-7(in child’s foot size)? Or the adult Monofin? I’ve been trying to find the dimensions so I can make sure it’ll fit and the fluke be big enough to my liking, I typically like a bigger fluke.
Madison Daniel adult size, they come with neoprene booties to improve the fit in smaller sizes. See my reviews of each for more info. Also check if you wear a children’s, youth, or women’s size 6/7 (children’s size 6 is generally 5 1/4 inch foot seams small for a 12yo)
Good video! I got the Fin Fun monofins (original and AMP) and while all their products are great quality, and their customer servie is excellent, the AMP is EPIC to get into (as you noted in one review, which is why I didn't send mine back). Once in there, it's fine, though I don't have quite as much propulsion as with my dive fins. I also got a Luna, which is beautiful, fabulous design, quality... but...the PROBLEM is those of us with big weird feet. They need to do a larger size, or one with a boxier foot pocket. My feet are size tenish, but I have arthritic big toe base joints aka: "Hallux rigidus is a form of degenerative arthritis, which can cause pain and stiffness in the metatarsophalangeal joint (the joint where your big toe-the hallux-joins your foot). ... A bump, like a bunion or callus, often develops on the top of the foot and makes wearing shoes difficult. " While this is not a problem in large dive fins that I can wear neoprene socks in, or in the neoprene Fin Fun fins, it becomes an irritation in a tight fitting fin. I love the Luna and would recommend it. It is stupid easy to get on and off. The flerp flerpyiness is weird compared to, oh, my (pair of) dive fins, but looks great, even in a tailskin (it fits in the Fin Fun skins). While I am short (5'5"ish) and somewhat broad compared to some mermaids, I seem to be making way underwater. Now I wonder if I can modify it in some way to accommodate my feet. Does the Linden have boxy big foot pockets? If it's larger than my foot size, I can wear neoprene socks like I do in my dive fins, no problem then.
swordwhale1 I was thinking of purchasing the Luna, because FinFun Tail skins are affordable for me, but I wasn’t sure. I like the FinFun Tail skins as well because they have wonderful scale patterns and such. I don’t want to invest in a bad Monofin, but so many people recommend it, so I’m definitely getting that!
@@snailmail3604 I use my Luna both with leggings and inside the FinFun skins (it sticks out a wee tiny bit in the middle bottom, hardly noticable, especially in motion). It's truly a great fin. Has great mermaidy flow, and beautiful shape and translucency. It doesn't have the propulsion of the Mahina (which is larger and stiffer) but is just fine. More maneuverable than the Mahina, and less likely to create cramps if you're prone to that. I also have a Mahina and love that one too. While most people have had zero problems in years of use, mine broke (at the base of the heel strap). Finis has great customer service and sent a replacement (we don't care what you do with the broken one). Someone on mernetwork had broken the Luna the exact same way, and fixed it with Sil-poxy. Silicone sheets (for cooking) can be patches. I doubt yours would break... be gentle pulling it on, and don't leave in hot cars etc. I MacGuyvered my Luna by lengthening the heel straps with hair bungees... now my wide foot has more room. Do be aware it sinks like a rock. So don't lose it it open water. It's not like it's gonna fall off your feet tho... Several pro mermaids have recommended the Luna (Courtney Mermaid especially adores it) and it lives up to its rep.
Both the linden and the luna fif in a finfun. However the luna does peek out the bottom a bit so with blue tails it is not a problem, but it will be noticed with other colors
Hi! Im starting in mermading this summer and im thinking about changin my monofin. I dont usually go to lakes yet, just pools or photoshoots. Well, my questions are: 1) do you recommend mahina for pools? Does it hurt? 2) I have a fabric tail to start with, when im in water sometimes the tail puff up like a balloon. Thats because the fabric? Thanks a lot!
Hi! Welcome to the pod! I would recommend the mahina for anything...pools, lakes, ocean, land gigs. I love it! I have never had a problem with any rubbing, foot cramps, or hurting. I have heard others say it rubs, but a pair of socks could help. The tail is puffing up because their is air trapped in it, sometimes their could also be water getting trapped in it. What kind of tail/fabric is it? You may need to cut some small (like 1 cm) drainage holes in the fluke to prevent it.
I have the FinFuns, the Luna, and the Mahina. I like them all for various reasons, but I recommend the Mahina for sheer butt kicking power and a great look. The Luna is more maneuverable but the Mahina (a Hawaiian moon goddess) is Such Power! It looks great with leggings. It is slightly floaty so you won't lost it at the bottom of the lake or bay. I would definitely be sure you get it a wee bit bigger than you think you need and use neoprene socks. Any socks work, but neoprene is better. The Mahina website has a very good size chart so you can measure your feet carefully for good fit. I got the large (ostensibly fits up to size 12). I have size tenish wide arthritic feet, and the large...just....fits...
That is really tough!! I also like to watch videos. Look up mermaid zari on instagram if you haven’t already, she is an ambassadorfor them I think and has some footage
thank you!!! I checked her acc and she didn't have a rose but she has the same style tail! I am soooo getting that tail! also, I love your channel. I used to shame myself bc of my weight. all my mermaid friends are skinny so it made me feel ... odd?...weird? ... fat. to swim with them. but now ive realized that im not the only one! and im beautiful!! and READ THIS!! I am NOT trying to call you fat in any way!! you are gorgeous and I am soo soo soo sorry if I offend you! I LOVE YOU!!
Concerning the Finis Aquarius that you hold up in this movieclip I can see that its getting loose where the foot pocket meet the blade. Exactly what have happened to my own Finis Aquarius. I had just used it for like 15 times when it started to crack at the silicone and like 5 times after that it broke so much that it can not be used more. I contacted the company I bought it from today but I do wonder if more users have seen the same fault at their fins? I'm an adult swimmer and I have treated the fin carefully at all times. I do think that a monofin should last for more than 20 times in use.
Hello, could somebody maybe help me? I decided to get a finis rapid (or maybe wave) monofin and these are available in footsize 2 - 8 and 9 - 13 (female US). I have footsize 8.5 so I am exactly inbetween the two options. Would it be better for me to get the bigger or the smaller version? Also this video was super helpful! It really helped with my decision ♥
I would recommend sizing up and wearing neoprene socks/booties (5mm thick maybe) to prevent rubbing. This fin could use socks anyway, and it is more comfortable to fill the extra room than to squeeze in. Although if you also have very narrow feet sizing down may be ok, but hard to say exactly. When I first got my rapid (10 years ago now) I wore a 9 and it already fit pretty snug, and today at a 9.5/10 the foot pockets are less comfortable than when they fit looser.
Hi, I have a question. I wanna get started with swimming with a monofin. I would like one that gives me great speed in the water and one that's not too heavy. Which one would you recommend for beginners? Thank you in advance 🙂
Mizuki I would highly recommend a linden monofin. They are light, a good size, and easy to learn in. They also fit in finfun skins or mertailor guppy skins.
@@TheMermaidSewist Wow, thanks for this fast reply, I didn't expect an answer this fast. Thank you so much for your recommendation and I will absolutely look into that. Thank you very much and keep making these awesome videos
The short answer is probably not. The glide fishtail is not a monofin for pool use and there are cheaper more tail friendly options out there if you are looking for a larger, stiff monofin. I would recommend looking at the minos or the hydra monofins. The long answer is it depends in how strong a swimmer you are, how committed you are to the care, and what kind of swimming you want to do. Glide fishtails are competitive level Freediving monofins and require a lot of training to use safety and effectively. They require a lot of strength as well as ankle flexibility and are not very comfortable to wear for longer periods of time. The monofins with that kind of foot pocket can also be extremely difficult to take off inside a tail posing a safety risk. The fiberglass is somewhat delicate and needs to be transported in a hard sided case and should never bump the bottom or sides of a pool. If you are a strong swimmer (have competed for 10+years or are a certified freediver/mermaid) and you are taking your tails to the ocean or performing in a massive aquarium AND you will have a trained safety diver then that might be the monofin for you, but anything short of that, I would recommend the minos or the hydra monofins. If you are looking to get one eventually for competition or Freediving test one first at a local dive shop/school.
Absolutely! my top two picks are the sweam Minos, the Finis Rapid Others you could look at are I believe the mertailor fantasea fins would, but their size chart is broken so I would email them and ask, and any of the Finis fiberglass fins shooter, trainer, competitors though these aren’t good starter fins. You will have better luck with the Freediving/ training style monofins just because they are made with male swimmers in mind.
Are you still swimming today? I want to see how your body had transformed for practicing that sport. Im not rude but every sports shapes your body in a different ways
