This music 🎶 is so beautiful and soulful, feels like the soundtrack of our lives as the years come and go, unfolding with each sunrise and sunset. He has composed music for us that speaks from the heart where words are unnecessary. Soothing, cathartic and calming. Love your style of playing and your composing so much. Wish so much I can see you playing live❤
This piece transcends where I’ve been where I am and where I’m going yet. The Melody seems to swim outside of time within a space ethereal and yet familiar of where we’ve always been. It dances on my heart and comforts my soul as a lullaby bringing rest and peace. You are brilliant Dustin! Perhaps reflective of 🇮🇸 Iceland and its inspiration! Dreaming of visiting!
When I heard the beginning, I couldn't help but point out the resemblance to the 1st movement of the Moonlight Sonata, but as I listened it became uniquely your own, this was pretty great
honestly one of his better works. punches you in the face with emotion right from the beginning... stings may be a better word than punches, regardless we are also treated to a surprise when it opens up and the tension vanishes into thin air
Seems strange that contemporary piano music has lost complex harmonies and melody and is based , in most of the cases, on relaxing harmonic textures, but maybe is what audience wants to listen in these days.
It’s because of the high streaming numbers this background music receives on playlists. It’s not suppose to be overly complex just there to be peaceful and sort of ignored. I like Dustin’s music so I don’t want to come across as negatively criticizing it but it exists for a specific purpose.
Are you saying complexity equals quality? There is a time and place for finger acrobatics... and Mr. O'Halloran's simplicity has a time and place too. Obviously, Deutche Grammophon approves. And it really rubs me the wrong way when other comments below call this "ignored background music".
@@christodowns I think there's a place for all art and complexity is definitely not an indicator of quality. I love the nuances of these minimal pieces and I've started writing some myself. What I was saying is that the popularity of them is due to huge spotify playlists that provide sleep, study, relaxation music for background use. I don't think a piece being written for background use should be a negative connotation to its existence either. But then again I believe the purpose of art is to exist as art and whatever other accolades or criticism it receives is on an individual basis. While many of us music fans will tune into the nuances of minimal composition and production the masses see it as a passive atmospheric mood setting. Both are of equal value and importance. And hey if you like something then you like something no matter why or how you apply it to your life :)
Dismissing an artist's work for "not being complex" is such a lazy criticism and kind of a way of thinking proper of snobs. Complexity does not equal quality. A piece can be 5 hours long and full of strings and huge percussions and still be horribly misconstrued if the artist has not a clear idea of what they want to do with it.
Classical music must to be in a very bad situation if it’s accepting now this kind of simpleton piano in its catalog, is so embarrassing… I recognize the pianist plays with a lot of expression, but is a waste of talent at the same time. This “Einaudi’s generation” doesn’t deserve a place in classical music, I repeat: is so embarrassing!.
Wikipedia: In 2016, O’Halloran collaborated with Hauschka (Volker Bertelmann) on the score for the Oscar-nominated film LION The score of the film was nominated for many major awards including the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, BAFTAs and Critics’ Choice Awards.
