I got one of those blue-colored barrels from Amazon last year. Eventually, I hope to fill it with supplies and bury it in the back yard under the frost line (3 feet). I keep my rice in one gallon-sized Mylar bags in 30 gallon-sized galvanized metal garbage cans in my attic. My house cats provide guard duty for the deer mice intruders. I like your channel and your videos.

    Got that right.
I have discovered that people who agree with you, rarely comment. (Those who don't, make themselves known.)
I just want to encourage you to keep on doing what you are doing.
    You matter.

I had something similar and to make it airtight you put some pressure on the top w one hand (in the middle of the top) and snap the metal ring closed. Hope this helps. Thank you for your always excellent vids. Be Blessed

I have a friend who has access to them at work, and they're awesome. They just throw them out, and he "liberates" them and gives them to me for my preps. He has been giving me the 10 gallon version until recently, but lately he has been giving me some 15 gallon units as well.
I haven't tested them for how well they seal yet, and I'm just now starting to play around with them to see how I'll utilize them.
He gives me 6 or 7 each month when we meet at the gun shows, and once I have enough for my needs I'll share them with some of my other friends. As is yours, they're nice and clean inside and out and would be perfect for food storage.

Don't forget to check out Marine Supply stores for the large plastic barrels. Especially near a waterman's town. We have oodles of them for$15.00 .
My first comment to U. Been watching for months. I am now handicapped and can't do anything. Makes me feel better just to be able to watch and enjoy. Keep it up!! Please.

That's a great idea! I've been using a backpack. Plus I have 2 unsealed buckets and one includes a stove and fuel. And my MRE'S are here and there. I need to organize~!

That is a really good idea and I can see where it would work well for other things also.......dang, now my brain is in overdrive.

I LOVE this idea! May I make a suggestion???
If you have a Vacuum Sealer, take the Mtn. House out of their store bought pouches, and instead put them in the Vacuum Seal Bags with NEW O2 Absorbers. The space you gail by doing this might allow you to TRIPLE the amount of of Freeze Dried entree's you can store in that Bucket. Just an idea.....

Love seeing the stuff you find. “ if “ you’d like to seal it, I suggest stretching an inter tube around and under the metal strap.

You might try a industrial supplier for some O ring cord and super glue to put a possibly better seal in the lid.
You'll need a appx, dia of the cord that fit's , cut to fit lid, super glue ends together.
    Just a thought"
I want 2 of them barrels . lol

    Hello
Just found and subbed your channel.
Looking forward to seeing your other videos.
Before I retired ( I worked in a chemical plant ) we used these same containers. Everything we received in them was in a plasice bag, zip tied and then put in the container. We never received anything liquid in them.
Thanks for taking the time to make and post your videos
    Have a Jesus filled day

Ps these make great cache you can bury.....so I here😉

I would love it if you did a review on water storage. Maybe using 15 or 30 gallon containers. Just a thought, water is critical here in the desert.

I did one a while back, about 3 or so years ago but its time for an updated one. I mostly use the 55 gallon drums for storage but I have loads of other storage put in smaller containers as well so a new video will be coming soon.

Rodents (mice, especially) can chew through plastic if theyre desperate. So put em up on a couple bricks/2x4s. I laid in a length of 1/2 inch tubing to assist in the water-tightness.

    • @AnnBearForFreedom
      @AnnBearForFreedom 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Although, thinking about it,....2x4s might give mice too much of a pawhold surface to climb up. I think I'd use 1 inch PVC pipe (depending on the weight of whatever youve got stored...maybe 1 inch EMT conduit would be better)

If you want that drum sealed hit it with a rubber hammer like a paint can, but have fun taking the lid off the next time you open it.

We used to have these in the 55 gallon size when I worked for a food manufacturer. The product inside was usually powder or fluid with a high viscosity such as honey or syrup and was always in a sealed plastic bag. I'm not sure they are meant to be absolutely airtight as they are really just a container to ship items that are already sealed. The ones we would receive, generally went back to the manufacturer for reuse, just like shipping pallets. Either way, for the purpose you are using it they should work. May be a bit harder to organize things in than using a tote style container, but the lid would be more secure than regular totes. Don't know how the cost compares. I get the 30gal (?) black totes with yellow lids for around $10, but I'm familiar with Pahrump. You'd probably need to make a trip into Vegas to get better deals.

We had a guy around here selling all sizes of these plastic barrels pretty cheap, our local feed store sells them too, you can probably get better deals out here more often .

Have to make you laugh. Just started using my thrive and mountain house to try and test with my kids. Umm ..what a learning curve. I strongly disliked the meat textures..even with the best! My kids loved it lol. So...guess I will have to adapt. 😉
