    i’m grateful i did the filter sock to roller swap. after going on a 10-day vacation, with a sitter only coming every 2-3 days. he didn’t have to swap any filters out, he was already hating feeding some prepped frozen 😂

      Yeah feeding is one ask, changing socks is a whole other game lol

    Enjoyed watching the video. ❤ I normally portion food out in pre-mesarued small containers so the tank sitter only has to dip the food in.

    I enjoyed the hell out of that, thank you. I’m away from my tanks every weekend, so every Friday I film on my phone as I go around every plug and piece of equipment, and do a running commentary, just like you did here. That way, when I start panicking on a Saturday that I left a pump unplugged, I can watch it back and relax. I’ve just bought one of those Wi-Fi cameras, but haven’t set it up yet, and the orange filter is a great idea, thank you 👍

      Hey, thanks for the comment! Like you, I spend way more time thinking about what could go wrong than I need to but it’s good to prepare for the worst.
      The orange filter tip was from experience, lol. I don’t run my tank super blue but still overloaded the nest cam. I left for a week only to see a giant blue blur all week, lol.

    One thing i do so my sitter doesn’t over feed is place the frozen food for each day in a ziplock bag in the freezer.
    Since my tank isn’t as automated I take pictures of each piece of key equipment and have it labeled on one sheet of paper. That way if I get a call that something isn’t working I know what it is. I also label my plug ins for each piece of equipment.
    If a fish were to die (hopefully not) i have them remove it and place it in a freezer bag and put it in the freezer. When I return I would dispose of the fish
    I also meet with my sitter the day before I leave and let them follow my written instructions. This way if I have forgotten something I can add it to the list
    Your tank is looking great and hope you have a great time while you are away.

      I also pre-measure my frozen food. My tank sitter has done this many times but I also initially had written instructions with photos printed out. lol.

    We just went on a 10 day P&O cruise - and I had to prep too. Came back and the tank, coral and fish were better than ever! haha.

      Yep, sometimes keeping your hands out of the tank can do wonders.

    Great tips. I'm actually going to be going on vacation for 2.5 weeks very soon. It's the longest I've been away from the tank with my family.

    Buy a wifi camera (nest, Amazon, whatever fits your tech) and point it at the key parts that could go wrong

    The same thing happen to me when we left for a week vacation . The ph must have went way up cause I noticed lots of new growth and the alk had dropped from 9.0 to 7.8 ! Also how is that Angel fish around the corals ?

    • @NBurgReef
      @NBurgReef  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I want to readjust my CO2 scrubber to be more efficient because I like the growth!
      It nips but doesn’t eat. But then again it nips anything and everything in the tank, rock, glass, etc. doesn’t seem to affect polyp extension but then again, in a larger tank, most corals probably only get nipped every few hours.

      I will make a vid. I played around with them a lot, but its both blue channels at 100%, violet and "UV" at ~70%, and white at maybe 30ish %? I don't run super blue, but not 10k white either. cyan (greenish blue) and red are at 5%

    I would probably have a hard time leaving my glass cages 260 .lol .

      Yeah I’ll do a hardware overview vid someday.

    Yeah nahh, the lack of C02 won't raise the pH any more than 8.3 at max, so unhooking the CO2 media does nothing when there is lower CO2 levels......
    If you are getting above 8.3 pH without using an additional chemical to force the pH up further then your pH monitor is calibrated wrong as you have calibrated your probe for single sample instead of continuous immersion....
    Fingers Crossed 🤞🤞🤞🤞

    • @NBurgReef
      @NBurgReef  ปีที่แล้ว

      That may be true, but I am dosing a lot of 2-part alkalinity buffer that also boosts pH. I calibrate my probes every 3-months and compare with chemical test kits so I’m sure my pH is correct.
