I think what makes Messi so extraordinary to watch outside of the dazzling speed and mind bending ball control, is how ruthlessly efficient he is. There's very little wasted movement. If the fastest path to goal is directly through you then he'll just nutmeg you and not even break stride. If all he needs is one shoulder feint to send you out of the picture then that's all he does. It's that efficiency that lets him string together move after move after move, beating defender after defender.
He doesn't try to dazzle you, but you end up dazzled.
