It was just a fun interlude in the middle of the Show, I'm not sure it had any other significant purpose other than to make his Audiance Laugh !! There are as many stories about what was on the note as there are people. Elvis had a wicked sense of Humor.😁❤

“How do you describe a human being who can do everything?“ Excellent question with only one answer: “Elvis.” PS: the funniest part of that song is the line “gator got your granny.“
Yes, gator got your granny is a very funny line and he sang it in his lower register of his voice. For a long time I couldn’t make out the word gator until I looked up the lyrics. He pronounces the words very precise in everything he sings. Love, love, love Elvis
He had so much fun. Once his band who loved him so much, rolled some marbles on the stage during a performance and he was sliding around trying to dodge them. He had the best since of humor. To see the fun he had, see " Elvis Presley Funny Moments". Or "Elvis Presley in the studio". " Elvis Presley "Two Hundred Cadillacs". Love your reactions they are always on point. He made 31 movies, some fun scenes to check out are, " Mean Women Blues" from Loving you. Thanks and be blessed.
Someone once replied to a person who claimed Elvis was not really talented by saying "Elvis was able to make a huge hit of a song about LETTUCE!" Of course he was referring to Polk Salad Annie. And it is so true, Elvis made every song sound amazing. Such an awesome vocal range, beautiful voice, and natural vibrato that was out of this world.
Fun Fact about the note: A lot of audience members would give him notes and stuff with their numbers on it. During an earlier performance one of them slipped a note in his belt, during this performance they were pointing at the note so you can see Elvis looked around thinking they were pointing to something behind him or beside him. When he fixed his belt he accidentally grabbed it and finally noticed it.
When he temporarily swallows the mic, Elvis is being funny but it actually serves other purposes as well. This whole band always played tricks on each other and he was known to do that once in a while for the sound man that's off somewhere in the darkness of the room, usually with headphones on also, running the soundboard. And if he felt like he wanted to include him in the band interaction and also it would serve to make sure that the sound man was definitely staying on his toes and paying 100% attention all the time, by doing that, it gives this brief intense blip of feedback and of course you can hear it on the recording because it's a live situation, but the sound guy would hear it in his headphones loud.
It sounds nuts but when you saw him in person, you felt you were a part of everything going on. He was your entertaining friend who happened to be gorgeous. By the way, no video did this man justice. Stunning. He glowed. I think we saw his beautiful soul. 👑 🎸
How is it possible not to Love this man???He was amazing...Stick a mike in his mouth,Stop to read a note!! Yes that's our guy...Thank u for ur reaction..
That's hilarious. Yeah, it does seem like it came quite a way from an innocent poke salad. Plus, when you really think about the lyrics, it's a pretty cartoon-like description of a dysfunctional family, wow.
Take a long moment, and just try to imagine being there in that quaint venue. You are part of the crowd but you hardly realize it because all you see is Elvis. You cannot take your eyes off this man for fear of missing something....anything... The energy flowing from Elvis to you and back to Elvis is palpable. You also feel the incredible energy from all those around you surging through you but you will not remember what any of them look like because you are fixated on one man. The electricity in the room is a thrill ride, and the passion and powerful sound of song and instrument arrangements is blowing your mind. What an incredible experience and memory for the lucky one's who got to see him live.
HELLO U WILL NOT REGRET IT IF U REACT TO HIS SONGS NEW ORLEANS AND CRAWFISH FROM HIS MOVIE SCENES OF KING CREOLE HIS VOICE IN NEW ORLEANS IS SO GOOD HE DOES SO MUCH WITH HIS VOICE IN THIS SONG PLEASE TRY IT LOVE UR REACTIONS TO HIM!
He never took himself so seriously, He didn't trash other artists, he said, there is room in this business for everybody. As I have said before he helped launch the careers of other artists like James Brown and Jackie Wilson. He started in gospel and he is still the most sold single artist in gospel in the world. Check out from the 60's gospel that went gold and won Grammys, "Milky White Way". Also don't miss the recording of he and his daughter "Stand By Me' she sang it over him in 2019. they were so alike, she adored him and he adored her. Others with his daughter are "In the Ghetto", and "Don't Cry Daddy" Lisa Marie died this year in January just after celebration of her Fathers 88 birthday at Graceland. Thank you, for this reaction.
Poke Sallet (correct spelling) is from the poisonous Pokeweed plant which can be picked in spring, cooked well & eaten. The "hut 2 3 4" was him joking around about his time in the Army.
He loved to make noises with the microphone to get laughs there was nothing sexual about it. Love and miss my friend forever. awesome reaction. love to you from Memphis Tn.
Before this performance, he was singing Sweet Caroline. In the middle of the performance, you can see him looking a little confused. You can't see the audience member, but it was clear someone in the audience was trying to tell him something and was probably pointing , because you see Elvis look behind him, thinking the person is pointing at something behind him. When he turns back around, he obviously realizes the audience member is trying to tell him about the piece of paper in his belt. He looks down, takes the paper out, holds it up, nods his head and tucks it back into his belt. He clearly forgot about it, and while adjusting his belt during this performance, he accidentally pulls it out, and decides to read it quickly. I'm assuming the person who was alerting him of the note in his belt, probably slipped it in there when Elvis was interacting with the audience. This is just my assumption....I could be wrong.
Hello. Actually, it was the lyrics to the song he was reading. Remember, this was the first time he was performing these songs, and he had to learn about 40 of them. Just in case that was interesting. A lovely day to you.
@@coollady2179 um, remembering Elvis was married at this time, he paused halfway through a song to read a note from a lady admirer, keeping thousands of people waiting -ignoring how she got it there, of course: if she had gotten that close she could have just said it to him-and then gave it to one of the band to hold? Sorry, that’s nonsense. That was not the only time in this concert when he paused to take a note from his belt and read the lyrics, unless you think that lady kept sending him notes he couldn’t wait to read? No matter, believe what makes you happy. Enjoy your weekend.
@@renecents* IT WAS A NOTE FROM A FAN IN THE AUDIENCE! I saw the clip when the woman gave it to him and Elvis stuck it in his belt. It was not a "love letter", just her room number!!!
@@ihatechange Shew! My comment has started a debate. 🤣 I know that he did get notes slipped to him during performances all the time, so that's why I assumed that it was a note from a fan. I assumed it was her number or something. I do recall a clip where Elvis is kneeling down at the edge of the stage, and a woman seems to be doing something by his belt. Not sure if that is the same clip you are referring to. Could be a different one since it happened quite often. Hope y'all have a good day.
@@renecents - It was a note from a lady in the audience. Did you ever see the video of the army exit interview? A lady is REAL close to Elvis, and leans over his shoulder and sticks a note in his pocket. This happened a lot. And no, he did not read any more notes during that concert. You are incorrect. Have a nice. day
Polk salad is a plant that grows wild. If you have nothing to eat, you can pick it and cook it. It’s relative to the song as her father and brothers can’t be bothered to work and her mother is in prison working on a chain gang. ( Prisoners feet would be chained together then they would be forced to work in the fields. ) Annie has basically turned into a hard woman due to her circumstances. Only Elvis could make this song humorous.
The music and the drum beat were following Elvis' movements not vice versa. Everyone on stage could not take their eyes off of him because they never knew what he was going to do next and they had to keep up.
IF YOU WERE FROM THE SOUTH IN HIS DAY AS BOY YOU COULD RECONIZE WHAT POLK SALAD WAS HE TOLD THE STORY AT THE BEGINNING. MY MOM FROM HIS AREA. BLESS THEM BACK THAT DARK TIME BEING POUR❤ DANCE MOVES ALSO WERE GREAT😊.
Ive read he would do the mic part to keep the ones in the sound booth or sound room on their toes. I guess when he would do that its really loud to those in that room. Hes always playing!
I love your laughter at him. You almost said a bad word there.. 😂😂 Thank you so much. Did you hear the girls screaming at his moves? It cracks me up every time thinking that their screaming at a man dancing (although very sexy dancing) at a plant one eats similar to a turnip green down south. Who would think of doing a song like that? Where in the world did he get such an idea. His friends always said he loved to laugh & had a great sense of humor. Although a bit odd. Have a great day. 😊❤❤🎸🕺🏻🎸🕺🏻🌹🌹
Written (and made a top 10 hit) by Tony Joe White, just a year before Elvis did it live. It was a big hit song of the time. Elvis never recorded a studio version I still eat and love Polk Salad.
We loved HIM, and we will always love HIM....HE ll always be THE KING....THE G.O.A.T.....HE was the best, so who needs the rest...I don t...*****LONG LIVE THE KING****
@chjofar * Those were NOT lyrics, but a note from an audience member with her room number on it. I've seen the video clip when the woman hands the note to him and he puts it in his belt.
Hi Vonnie thank you for this recommendation. I cant seem to find a video for this song, and my worry is that i do not want to accidentally get an impersonator of Elvis like i did in the past. Do you happen to have a like by any chance for the one you have seen. Many thanks, Kings.
I could imagine James Brown singing this. I'd have loved to see them duet, alas we know what happened to Elvis from 70s onwards. The mike in the mouth I think goes with the general smut this song is obviously about. Poke sallet, not polk. Poke, melons on my truck, suck a little.... other stories suggest it was a joke for his sound engineer, which is also given how much Elvis liked to mess around on stage and make people laugh. He was a fun and very funny, talented and beautiful man. I love Elvis singing blues and gospel the best. The only style that could fully utilise his vocal range. He was sheer perfection ❤
Jane H commenting … Elvis loved to clown around on stage, or suddenly put different words into the song he was singing, or pull a prank on one of the musicians, or one of them would pull a prank on him, but he Always got his revenge, & usually that involved water lol. That’s why people went to ten or more of his concerts, because they knew they were not going to get the same old, same old, like so many singers do. With Elvis the audience never knew what he would get up to on stage, & I’m sure he liked to pop funny stuff in every now & again during a concert, to alleviate the boredom of doing two shows daily, seven days a week, for a month at a time. Elvis loved his fans, & he always wanted to make them happy. He was such a giving person & such a humanitarian. This is why many of us have loved him for sixty years, like myself & my husband, & some for even longer. What other singer do you know who could inspire that kind of love & loyalty in his fans …. & we are quick to defend him against the many lies & half-truths that are all over YT. It takes a very special human being to inspire such love & loyalty 47 years after his death.
Yeah what a nice reaction here. Its my first time watching. I hit subscribe and ah here I am. I loved your laughter btw. It had me smiling so.Thx Lol. Never take your eyes off Elvis, keep it constant. Lol I was so happy you caught the note from his fans it was super cool. Ive smoked one too. Lol. Thx 4 the video. Polk Salad is a Southern thing. I barely know what it is. This is a cover song. Theres someone else who sings this. Have you listened to Elvis on the Milton Berle show? He has some really awesome television appearances with Milton Berle. He was pretty funny, i thought. And check the 4K and 8K enhansed videos. Its the real deal, their just wnhanced. It looks so clear and spectacular. And pls check out "Reconsider baby" extended version sax I believe youll like it. It was nice talkin to you. Thx.
That was a note he was looking at in the middle of the song from a fan in the audience ( see the 1970 movie That's The Way It Is) for proof ... I believe it was phone number or a song request.. and because he was in middle of song prior to this one, he tucked it under his belt. It was like he took a breather to read it before finishing the song. It didn't take long for Elvis to grow tired of doing this song because his manager made him do 2 shows each night for entire month! What you saw here was the early Vegas years!!
Hello, and if I may clarify. What Elvis took from his belt were the lyrics to the song: these were all brand new songs for him, and this was the first time he was singing them live, about 40 altogether which he swung in and out. Also, it seems you were thinking he was alluding to, or changing the lyrics at the end, he wasn’t. He was riffing of the song title Polk Salad Annie. Nothing more. A lovely day to all.
@@Laura-M-L hello Laura, thank you, and yes I dare say he got lots of notes, et al, but do you think he’d stop mid-song to read it? It was clearly just before the 3rd verse when he paused to read it, do you think that is when he would read it? If I remember he was talking about forgetting the words to, I just can’t help believing’, and asked for them to be taped to a chair, There was also at least one other time he took a note out between verses in a song to comically read the lyrics. Look, none of us can know for sure, but is stretches credibility to think he’d stop mid-song to read a love letter. Have a lovely weekend.
On behalf of some of us who were there at the time - it was definitely a note from a girl in the audience that evening. He did read lyrics sometimes from songs, but this was not one of those. He knew the Tony Joe White version of this song very well, as did everyone in the audience. It had been a hit for him just the year before this.
That tiny piece of paper was not lyrics, it was so small it wouldn't fit many words at all. When Elvis had the lyrics to I Just Can't Help Believing it was a sheet of paper, and every other time I saw him do that it was a songsheet, not a tiny scrap of paper.

@@ihatechange thank you for the stern reprimand and your information! 👏

Hi Vonnie thank you for this recommendation. I cant seem to find a video for this song, and my worry is that i do not want to accidentally get an impersonator of Elvis like i did in the past. Do you happen to have a like by any chance for the one you have seen. Many thanks, Kings.

Your reactions to Elvis are so Beautiful, Godbless 🙏❤️🙏
Happy Heavenly Birthday to The King.. would have been 89 today
He was reading his “cheat sheet” of lyrics….
Your reaction is priceless! ❤ Subscribed!
I just found your channel and I love it. I subscribed tonight. Please do Kentucky Rain by Elvis when you get time.❤
I could imagine James Brown singing this.
Someone gave his that note earlier on and he had put in in his pocket!!
And pls check out "Reconsider baby" extended version sax
I believe youll like it. It was nice talkin to you. Thx.
Best performer ever Elvis had it all looks charm charisma most of all such talent the goat great reaction thank you 🎉
That was a note he was looking at in the middle of the song from a fan in the audience ( see the 1970 movie That's The Way It Is) for proof ...
Elvis often forgot his songs and had to read
He is the only man who got away with that
I love this song.
Great Reaction 👍🙏
Er war nicht von diesem Planeten 🙏🙏RIP Elvis
❤
Hello, and if I may clarify. What Elvis took from his belt were the lyrics to the song: these were all brand new songs for him, and this was the first time he was singing them live, about 40 altogether which he swung in and out. Also, it seems you were thinking he was alluding to, or changing the lyrics at the end, he wasn’t. He was riffing of the song title Polk Salad Annie. Nothing more. A lovely day to all.
It’s a note a fan gave him, in another song (I can’t remember which, you see him take it from her and put it in his belt.
@@amandarayray9340 Hello Amanda, then please suggest what the world’s greatest ever singer and entertainer, who had an abiding love and respect for his fans and audience, would pause mid-song to read?
