Well this is for sure not a pedal for everyone. Fairfield Circuitry is one of my favourite pedal builders. The Shallow Water, Meet Maude, Barbershop and Randy's Revenge are some of the best pedals out there. I never thought I would say that I would skip a Fairfield Circuitry pedal, but this is the one.
Im on the fence. I was waiting to see what this was like, and now I’m thinking I may get the Randy’s Revenge. Ive got some of their other stuff and love them all.
This is a very interesting pedal, but perhaps too niche for most people to ever buy even if they are into it. You can stumble on pleasant noise like at around 17:15 but it's still a bit harsh to really be a usable accompaniment. Makes me wish it had high and low pass filters to really thin it down to be a more subtle addition to a soundscape. I think ultimately I wish it was more like the Shallow Water, but for noise.
Honestly, even if I'm never able to affort these pedals - still coming here for the absolut FIRE intro songs (and the review). Funfact, just watched the intro song in 1.5x speed (carried over from previously watching a painfully slow tutorial). DO YOURSELF A PLEASURE and watch the intro again on 1.5 speed. This just hits different!
@@markjohnstonofficial Yes, I really like it (and the "normal speed" too ofc) - If your music works great while being sped (speed in past tense?) up, that just shows its well written music :D
That's some mad pedal you got there Mark. I was always told to avoid Out Of Phase. Not sure this will be a best seller. BTW I always love your pedal reviews. Keep them coming!
Nothing wrong with the effect being out of phase for a pedal like this. Definitely wouldn't want an out of phase parallel compression track though. Plenty of cool audio tricks can be done using phase.
Phase is in the eye of the beholder. Some of the most iconic guitar tones of all time are created with pickups intentionally out of phase with one another; see the Fender Mustang
This is what my studio sounded like after we got solar panels installed and before I got a power conditioner. I guess that was an aesthetic all along.
Bro, that power conditioner unit is ruining your tone. The sun is analog and ...bro, your removing all of the tone with the power conditioner.
Great video! This pedal really is wild!
Mark is a wordsmith Describes things in the most interesting way. Love it.

Got an Accountant for bass and its amazing for the Billy Sheehan type compression.

I love this thing more than most things.
this and the Shallow Water are the 2 Fairfield Circuitry pedals i need
Been watching RT videos today. This is the best at displaying the feature interactions, and mojo.
The Fairfieldiest Fairfield thing I’ve ever heard. Awesome
So nice to know there's someone who cares about the obscure minutiae at least as much as myself.

Ooooof that just stressed me way out. Haha

Afford*. And do your self a favor***
Reminds me a bit of the wmd Geiger counter!
Unruly in the best possible ways! Sounds great here!
Intriguing 🧐 I only have the long life & it is one of my all time favourites.
I like the drive section... is it based on the barbershop?
Apparently not, seems like it has more gain than the Barbershop.
@@haloskater24 You're right, probably something more ratty.
why is your big sky display scrolling the names, mine is fixed.
Camera frame rate. It’s not actually happening.
lets gooooooooo
You seem a little crazy… but I guess that’s what an artist is 🧐
sounds like farts in a thunder cloud
Hey totally intrigued by the look of you video- there’s something strange about the frame rate or something? It almost makes you look cgi
Not the frame rate, but probably the smoother look from a relatively high shutter speed.
Jennings makes Basses?!?!?!
No, they make the BEST basses. I’m absolutely obsessed with this short scale.
@@markjohnstonofficial you got a shorty! Rad! I’m happy to see when the bass makes an entrance in your videos

@@markjohnstonofficial Gibson ripper too!
@@markjohnstonofficial Goes way back to my days as a mastering engineer. Out of Phase was a real issue. Please keep the vids coming.
But surely we are talking about polarity, and not phase, which are two different things.
This channel is going to hurt my wallet.
Im just here to test your willpower.
@@markjohnstonofficial Test my marriage more like. That intro was sweet.
