I’m glad you extended this. Stjepan. Watching you calculate has helped me immensely in that area and, believe it or not, is helping me with my fear of playing actual games versus doing only puzzles. Thanks!
4:51 Sjtepan suddenly changing to German was a shocker. Thanks so much for the series and for your decision to prolong it! Better times will come, and I look forward to improving in those games with you
Best of luck to you, Stjepan! You are confronting yourself with your flaws, and are doing your best to improve them. These skills are essential for becoming a good player, but mostly, for becoming a better person. In life sometimes it's difficult to get back up when you've been punched. You've got to keep going. I have faith in you. Best of luck in chess and in life!
Keep fighting, Stjepan! Good move to give yourself more time to climb the rating ladder, there's no point in burning oneself out by trying to sprint through what's supposed to be a marathon!
If somebody runs a computer analysis (it might be your opponent as well as any other viewer of the game actually) you are going to see the computer variations in the move list. You can press 'z' to switch to Zen mode and that will hide engine-generated comments and variations.
That's a tough loss to swallow, I'm sure.😮 Not seeing or considering Qg5 to prevent your opponent from his obviously intended next move - casting - points to your tendency to get tunnel vision on one area of the board or one move (which I completely understand). Until that point, I was so happy to see you having a plan (open the center and go after the uncastled king) and sticking with it. It was working and looked like a fairly straight forward win as long as you kept an eye on your king safety and just pushed the pawn to h7. As always, thanks for sharing your journey! Its very educational and interesting. We're all wishing you the best! Good idea to extend the deadline to reach your goal. There's no rush and the journey should be fun, as well as challenging. Cheers from Alaska!
I kept screaming Qg5! Qg5! as you were obsessing over Qb6. Qg5 would have prevented him from castling, threatened Qg3+ and an easy win, as far as I could see.
Stjepan was inducted into Project Mayhem, as in Fight Club and hence the buzz cut. But instead of random acts of anarchy, he has to get to 2500 Lichess rapid.
It's because the opponent (or a spectator) clicked "Request a Computer Analysis." Just checking the lines with the engine will not transfer those evaluations to other people looking at the analysis board. If Stjepan wants to avoid seeing the evaluation then he needs to click "Study" and create a study, before switching back to the notation.
What a strange game....after f3 I was sure it should be an easy win.... I really think you need to have a better time management Stjepan, because your chess abilities are much better than the results of your last games. So don't give up, I cross my fingers for you 🙂😉
my rating is much lower but I saw the Qg5 option and was showing this move to Stjepan with my hands (apparently he didn't see it through the screen). when he played Qb3 that looked ugly to me and it felt like allowing castling gave the opponent a chance to equalize.
though Qg5 was the best move turns out Be3 was the second best...i feel like you often talk yourself out of instinctually good moves because a certain line looks like it could have the possibility of being scary but isn't actually in the end
I agree. With the pawn on d5 being weak it seemed likely that it would be compelled to advance at some point, so it might as well push in support of that Be3 which is a real bone in White's throat. Black should be better in the BOC middlegame but White gets attacking chances too.
Thought on move 22 white had a forced mate with 22.Rxh7+ Kxh7 23.Qh2+ Kg6 24.Qh5+ Kf6 25.Qxf5+ Ke7 26.Rd7+ Ke8 27.Bf7+ Rxf7 28.Qxf7#... but totally missed blacks 23...Qh6 too 🤷🏻♂🙂
Thank you for your training games. Watching your games and analyzing them on the computer have taught me a lot. I noticed most of the differences with computer-suggested moves are when you are in attacking positions. Perhaps, you should train more attacking positions and study attacking players. I am myself a fan of Alekhine.
Stjepan if your opponent or a spectator click on "computer analysis", it will be seen by everyone. You can watch the moves without clicking on "analysis board" but you won't be able to insert other moves, or you can click on "analysis board" and create a new study.
Commenting as I watch 15:55, 14...f6 It's a little odd you don't consider 15.g4 Bg6 16. Nxg6 Bg3+ 17.Ke2 hxg6. Yes, it's a bit ugly but the king is positioned horribly and the LSB will take time to come out. I think this is also part of your (entirely correct) diagnosis with candidate moves; you're not looking wide enough in these positions. Not saying this idea is definitely better or anything, but certainly should be considered. Like wise other captures after your preferred dxe5 fxg4. In these positions I feel you have to at least briefly look at all captures. 33:19 yes, I'd been looking at Rxh7+ for a while. It actually doesn't work at all as Rxh7+ Kxh7 Qh2+ Qh6 is also a check and forces a queen trade. So what I was looking at is Rxh7+ Kxh7 Rh1+ Kg6 which looks unclear but probably doesn't work. 34:15 gxf5+ actually is a follow-up check which opens the g-file so I wouldn't be as chilled about it. By the way, if you're wondering why the evaluation is there it's probably because either your opponent or a spectator requested the computer analysis.
Good points, I was also looking at 1 Rxh7+ Kxh 2 Rh1+ Kg6 3 gxf Kf6 and seems there is nothing, but its not great he didn't even look at Rh1, and concluded everything is fine after Qh2 instead.
25:00 Instead of ...Qb6, wasn't ...Qg5 a better option? Maybe I'm missing something. I will check with the engine and update this comment after I'm done watching the rest of the vid. Edit: Yep engine sadly marks ...Qb6 as a blunder and recommends ...Qg5.
At 17:50 there are at least 4 captures available and yet you seemed to consider only two for about 30 seconds before taking the most conservative one... exd looked really tempting to open more files. Also, after watching a second time, I still don't understand why you talked yourself out of Be3. After Be3, Rd1 and d4 what made you say "I don't think I can afford Be3?" White has one check and then his king is ridiculous in the middle. I don't know if you just didn't express verbally what spooked you here.
I totally agree with this comment. Be3 looked very safe, but even Qg5 looked totally indicated. This was the stage where Stjepan lost the game as he took about 6/7 minutes over this decision but allowed white to castle which allowed him to save his king and counter-attack.
Definitely not suited to Stjepan's style and risk profile. I would recommend 1...e5 to him but I don't think he has any problems with his openings. They are great.
I disagree. While it's a challenging goal, it's doable. It's 200 points. He's definitely determining what his weaknesses are so he knows what to work on. His opening prep is great. He needs to work on calculation. Maybe he can do the Woodpecker Challenge?! That would be good content. 😊
@@AntonStachSZN I don't "act like" anything. I simply stated that I think a 200 point gain is doable. His current strength is probably about what his rating shows, but that doesn't mean he can't improve by playing more at this time control and addressing his short comings. That's basically the entire theme of this channel. Cheer the guy on, don't drag him down. Positive energy bro, positve energy.
Sanity has prevailed. Good luck Stjepan: your struggles are not in vain. At least one person, me, has benefitted so much from your journey so far.
Ya, I love his content also

Yep,I mentioned it too ,very funny 😉
that was his evil part which took control over his personality for a short time ;)

I'm happy to hear you're extending your goal. A lesser man would quit in frustration, and I always learn something from your content - win or lose.
I kept screaming Qg5! Qg5! as you were obsessing over Qb6. Qg5 would have prevented him from castling, threatened Qg3+ and an easy win, as far as I could see.
Qg5 is a move that takes away any counterplay from the opponent.
He was talking about Be3 and ruled it out, but didn't even consider Qg5 with the same idea, and really focuses on those dark square weaknesses.
same haha
lol as a weaker player, I oftentimes miss the moves he does. This time, however, I saw it!!
Stjepan was inducted into Project Mayhem, as in Fight Club and hence the buzz cut. But instead of random acts of anarchy, he has to get to 2500 Lichess rapid.
13:40 What a magical foresight! "h7 is never a weakness while there is a bishop on f5"
Thanks! Keep at it. I really enjoy your videos.
Very sensible - slow and steady wins the race, I'm sure you will be able to do this without such a tough deadline
Wise choice to extend the timeframe. It`s more realistic and relieves the pressure. Keep up the good content!
Du sprichst Deutsch? Coole Sache. 😊
The engine evaluation is there at the end because your opponent is checking the lines and since the evaluation is available, it's shown.
It's because the opponent (or a spectator) clicked "Request a Computer Analysis." Disappointing 😢

Seeing you not considering exd4 instead of exf5 and you not looking at Qg5 instead of Qb6 really hurt.
They would have made your life so much easier

This is a very reasonable decision I think

I think it's a great decision to extend the time and also not to play every day, even though I enjoy the videos. Good luck!
i love your videos. keep on. love that you can speak german a bit :)
This losing streak is brutal

You can get it sjtepan, if it gets hard jsut work harder
In the game where you say you missed Qb4 you actually played, well check my comment to that video!
I wonder if you thought about playing the Aljochin against e4, noone knows the theory and you always get interesting positions.
Definitely not suited to Stjepan's style and risk profile. I would recommend 1...e5 to him but I don't think he has any problems with his openings. They are great.
Qg5 was the deal breaker 😢
At 24:46 was Qg5 an option?
You could have allowed him the checkmate tho :)
Opposite castling and you didn't even bother to calculate his attack on your (undefended) king. 😬
the streak continues
I don’t want to drag you down but 2500 is too unrealistic. I think 2350 would be achievable in my opinion
Yeah, I think he should decrease the goal to 2400, that would actually be in the realm of reachable with a whole year.
I disagree. While it's a challenging goal, it's doable. It's 200 points. He's definitely determining what his weaknesses are so he knows what to work on.
His opening prep is great. He needs to work on calculation. Maybe he can do the Woodpecker Challenge?! That would be good content. 😊
@@perritohiker you act like he plays better than 2300, I think he is close to 2200 and he doesn't seem to realize his weaknesses

His peak rating for rapid is 2358 only two years ago. Hardly exciting for Stjepan to make his goal less than his peak rating.
