  • Most top players play the Caro-Kann because it leads to solid positions with a superior pawn structure.
Want an easy way to learn openings? chessbook.com/... Visit Chessbook and make working on your repertoire much easier.
Need a sparring partner? go.noctie.ai/ha... Try playing against Noctie. Unlike the engine, it's going to challenge you like a normal human would.
A typical Caro-Kann game in which black got a very solit structure, and white risked a lot to create chances. That is always a bad idea!

I have a love-hate relationship with it. Every true love is turbulent:D You have to decide for yourself, but I think I'll add new defenses to my repertoire and keep playing the CK every now and then.

play the opening you enjoy the most and the one where you get the most comfortable positions. If the caro is not doing that for you then play something else

I would say it depends more on personal preference. As long as you don't wanna be an insanely good player you could one trick the caro kann as it is really solid. I for myself (as a hobby player) wann to play other defenses too that are more aggressive (but this is mostly because I find it boring to play the same defense in every fucking game).

@@HangingPawns Not a bad idea to keep playing the caro against players that play the lines you enjoy. Can always play something different if classical variations are what bother you.

Very solid game, it's interesting how 2400 elo opponent on lichess can completely crumble in a seemingly easy to draw endgame. Shows how important it is to play till the end, be patient and wait for your chances. GG

I think the opponent was worried about time and knight vs bishop with pawns on both sides. I suspect that is why they tried to a cunning way to liquidate pawns with g5, as incorrect as it was

Caro-Kann isn't offering good counterattack, it is good for draw, but all the game black need to play boring (defending) chess

It would help if you would slow down your "forward thinking" because for me you talk too fast when articulating future moves, I cannot follow without replaying the video, but thanks for everything Caro-Kann!

I hate vinegar also, but if you run it with vinegar, then run it like 4 times with water (don't add coffee and throw away what comes out), it will wash the vinegar taste out.

i have some advice that would make it much easier to climb to 2500, set the opponent rating range to: from -50 to +500. It is easier to climb when you are always playing higher rated player.

Glad you won because your opponent seemed quite rude.
I have no problem with people playing on when there’s a fighting chance - but that wasn’t what they were doing - which at your respective levels is quite insulting!
It’s the sort of thing I’d expect at my lowly level.

But Stjepan was having fun exulting in his win. If your opponent wants to prolong his pain I don't see the problem. It's not like he was taking minutes between moves.
