I don’t feel like I explained the second trend that I dislike as well as I intended to so I wanted to add more context here! First of all, I LOVE that makeup has the ability to change the our faces. I love the creativity and artistry that it allows. I’m not suggesting that anyone should stop doing that! What I *would* like to see stop, is the idea that people NEED to change their facial structure with makeup. For example: videos titled “how to make your round face look more slim” or “how to make downturned eyes look more lifted”. Instead, I would love to see videos highlighting the beauty in different features instead of implying that they need to be changed❤️

The dewy skin trend is SO unflattering on textured skin, and it’s just not feasible for some skin types. I’m with you on that one

Matte foundation looks horrible on my skin, likewise concealer and powder. The dewy look can get greasy looking though. For my “old” skin, it’s about finding a happy medium between the two. The finish I find the most flattering used to be called satin and is often called natural these days.

I think that is only true if you aim is to hide your texture, most times I don’t feel the urge to do that and I don’t mind my texture being empathized if I’m achieving the look I want. I think it’s too much of a generalization to categorize it as unflattering, it depends on what your goals are with makeup

Thanks for bringing attention to this kelly. As a brown person I feel I was always trying to makeup to make my face look more Eurocentric but I’ve definitely started to embarace my natural features more. I think it’s important for white creators to bring attention to this that we don’t have to look like each other to be beautiful

I feel like korean beauty started the lip stain trend and fenty followed behind them and elf. Also, excited to see more natural finish bases. I think dewy is over done and matte is in the past. Natural finish is where its at.

I think because I’m old enough to have lived through the ‘90s thin brow trend , I will pass on that. :). Now in my 40s, I am thankful that my naturally thick brows survived the 90s.

Trends I wish would end: 1) glassy, sweaty, dewy skin 2) bushy, laminated, gelled eyebrows 3) streaks/ stripe of frosty highlighter
Trends I like: 1) higher blush placement, where highlighter is typically placed 2) sheer coverage of foundation 3) no more contouring 4) lip gloss, lip oils, tinted balms instead of matte lipsticks 5) looks without highlighter 6) one and done eyeshadows 7) fluttery mascara eyelashes instead of fake lashes

I always like a discussion of trends!
Normally, I don't follow them. I try a trend out, or take inspiration from what I like about it. The real problem is finding a trend you love, then it changes and now you can't replace that orange lip-colour you loved.
That said, my personal opinions is that I dislike using lip tints/oils, liquid eye-shadow, and face crystals.
However I can't get enough of all the colourful blushes & lipsticks, multi-chromes, matte complexion!
    Thanks for the video!

I wish finishes like matte/glass/dewy or even neutral finishes weren’t trends, because it comes down to your skin type. It shouldn’t be trendy, brands should come out with different products for different skin! I love matte looks but they do not stand a chance on my dryyyy skin, same for dewy on oily people.
Oh, and I’m loving the thinner brows… mine are naturally huge catipillers but I love how they look shaved a lot thinner on myself, and they’re easier to do in the morning

Hi! I love matte makeup but I have really dry skin as well. I use more of a hydrating foundation and concealers and pat in a loose matte powder into my skin to turn it matte. Thank you for acknowledging that not every brow trend is going to be the best fit for your brows! I have naturally fuller and fluffier brows. Most of my brow hairs naturally grow up and it looks mostly filled in without me having to use a pencil so I don’t have to do much to achieve the “fluffy brow” look, just comb through a bit of gel and I’m out the door. I’m all for people experimenting and wearing whatever they want on their face, but I see so many people jumping through hoops to try to get their brows to stay up, or promoting a myriad of techniques and products when at the end of the day that’s just not the way their brows naturally grow. I’m excited to see the resurgence of the thin brow because I feel as though it will complement so many people’s naturally thinner brow shape. One of my favorite examples of a structured thin brow is Vivien Leigh💓 Bella Hadid also sports a very similar shape and it looks stunning on her.

Wow the lip stain trend is one that has been revived from old school times lol. I remember that’s how my mom would wear bright lipsticks; reds, pinks and oranges (I’m black) and she taught me how to wear lipstick that way. I started using lip liner like in my sophomore/junior year of college and I haven’t gone back since

I have a love/hate relationship with the bright blush trend. I've always liked to wear blush, even when no one was wearing it. But now that I have rosacea, and permanently pink cheeks, I kind of hate it. But on the other hand, I am glad it's trending since my cheeks are blushing anyways. Also, the blush on the nose trend is funny to me because my nose redness is the bane of my existence. I do love that one shadow/more simple eye looks are trending and neutrals are back (they never left my eyeballs)! And I am so happy lipgloss is back, because I never stopped wearing that either. It's so much more flattering for small lips. I hated the dewy skin trend at first but now that my skin is less oily than it used to be I actually like it now.

I’ve always had thick and fluffy brows but with a shape myself, and I’m so glad that they are here to stay! I’ve spent years affirming myself and trying to get to a place where I finally love them. It's more about embracing your natural shape. If you have thick, fluffy brows- that's beautiful and you should love them (I envy you). But some of us (unfortunately) have thin and sparse brows and instead of trying to achieve the "thick and full" eyebrow look just staying in "the range" of what we have naturally should be OK as well. ☺

I put dewy vs matte finishes in the same category as thin vs fluffy brows. If you’re working *with* your features things will naturally turn out better than if you’re fighting against them. I’m not going to ever go full matte again because that’s just not what my slightly mature & very oily skin wants to do, and trying to achieve it just makes me look cakey and weird. I’m glad the whole dewy skin thing came along and made it acceptable for me to lean into what nature gave me lol. I hope generally we are getting to a place where people can mix-and-match whatever works best for them and whatever mood they happen to be in ✌🏻♥️

When the dewy trend started I’d have so many people ask what foundation I used…well I’m combo to oily skin. My foundation is matte, and I use a translucent powder. However, once the oil starts to show my foundation would look dewy lol. I always use blotting sheets because I prefer a matte finish. Also regarding the 90’s makeup trend I’m so happy more people are embracing it. I’ve preferred within the last two years or so matte eyeshadow and Jeffree starts Orgy palette is my go to. I’ve been lining my lips brown or a rose red since my middle school days, and had the pencil thin eyebrows 😭😂 but it was more of a chola thang for me at the time haha.

To add a comment that is unexpected, I agree with the brow comment. As someone who was in their early teens when the 90s rolled around… My aunt was the one who first shaped my eyebrows. And while they aren’t super thin they are thinner than the trends have been in the last years. Coupled with the fact that I am in my late 40s and my brows are thinning anyway and starting to gray. It makes it a little bit easier for me to have my natural brows and not feel like I need to be “fluffing myself“ all the time. Lol. I am however, encouraging my tween daughters to keep their natural brows fluffy for now.🥰

Honestly, with makeup and fashion trends, it's about finding styles that work for YOU and YOUR BODY. We all have different face shapes and features. Dewy skin may work for people with dry skin but won't look flattering on oily skin types. Low-rise jeans may work for super skinny girls but it's unflattering for people on the curvier side. We should go for styles that flatters our face and body instead of chasing after trends.

Totally been influenced by you to use again the lipstains. Been using them when I was younger ( from k-beauty) and now purchased the one from ColourPop. Thanks!

100% agree that 'one size fits all' makeup rules are limiting and unhelpful for a lot of people.
It is great that people are learning/sharing theory of contrast, colour, and placement but when that is extrapolated to *all* face shapes then it can undo the intent behind it. It is similar to painting a room white to make it look larger/brighter but that room is a vast banquet hall or a broom closet.
It also makes me very uneasy to see a eurocentric 'ideal' being pushed towards all people and a 'pick and choose' emulation of certain ethnic features.
However, I am very happy to see West embracing and appreciating Asian beauty styles when it is done respectfully. Everyone can benefit from learning about other cultures and expanding the definition of 'beauty'.
Trends I have been loving: pink/purple blush, shadow liner and graphic shadow looks, natural lashes with bold looks, liquid shadows, sheer glossy lipsticks, matte blotted lips, neutral/subtle multichromes.
Trends I look forward to: satin matte or 'natural finish' bases. More brown-black or burgundy mascaras.

I LOVE lip stains! Years ago Revlon sold lip stains and I loved them and they stopped and I haven’t been able to find lip stains for an affordable price until somewhat recently. I mean, I think all lip products have a time and a place (there are still plenty of times when a liquid lip that will not budge is going to be my best friend) but if I’m going to wear a berry or some darker color against my fair skin, I prefer a lip stain

I used to own milani red vino baked blush (decluttered because it was getting too old). It is intense for my lighter skin tone, but applied lightly it is really beautiful. I feel like that one fits well with the blush trends these days. Maybe I should grab that one again🤔🤔

I’m looking forward to seeing the end of laminated eyebrows that are brushed straight up. In my opinion this never looks flattering. I like a more natural eyebrow regardless if it’s thin or thick, just tidied up a bit.

Loving how normal it is to have diverse makeup styles are nowadays! Like you can look colorful/editorial one day and goth or minimalist the next, and the makeup community probably won't bat an eye. Don't love how perfume is becoming the new subject of shopping addiction now that everyone is waking up from the makeup overconsumption culture

for me I very much love lip stains, graphic liner, drawn on bottom lashes, face stamps, and face jewels (thought I haven’t tried the jewels yet!). I have hooded eyes with very low set brows, so anything that’s different than typical eyelid eyeshadow looks is fun and accessible for my face :•)

The best beauty advice I ever got from my mom was not to follow eyebrow trends. You really just gotta roll with what looks best on your face with some minimal adjustment to look contemporary.

I trend I dislike that I mostly see on tik tok and probably was big on Instagram is the over the top patterns of cream blush, bronzer, highlight products. Where people will map out the products in like square shapes or dots all over their face and then blend it out all at once. It just makes no difference in applying it just in lines or whatever vs applying it with all these dots and shapes. It just is meant to look cool. Also I think a lot of the issues with tik tok and even TH-cam is that these people are not makeup artist. They aren’t skilled in makeup techniques and the best ways to apply makeup based on what you want. Beauty gurus in general act like they know how to do makeup and they do but most only do it on themselves and not other people so they can’t really say what would look good on others. That’s why we see so many beauty gurus look to advice from actual makeup artist and how the way a good makeup artist makeup looks vs a beauty gurus way of doing makeup

I agree with you about eyebrows. I dont like the super thin eyebrows. I never did the full eyebrows due to the fact it doesnt look good on me. I also have thin brows naturally since the 90's and having them thin. I dont do it that thin anymore. Havent for yrs. I do a medium thin brow

I kind of wish that things like dewy and matte weren't trends
maybe that's a weird thing to say but I'd prefer if those didn't swing wildly as I'm dreading a return to matte (it makes me look casket-ready & while I want that in October, I want the choice in how alive I look lol) and I'm sure all the oily people are tired of dewy...
    why not both in moderation?
    but I'm just a dreamer

Yes! The only bad thing about trends is that makeup brands seem to stop selling things that aren’t trendy. My dry skin has been loving the tinted moisturizer phase and although I want people who need/like matte looks to have things accessible to them also, I don’t want my favorite products to be taken away. We’ll see

    Makeup trends I can't stand:
Faux freckles - they look like dirt on one's face
"dewy" skin - it's just looking oily
Instagramers using way too much product.
Dark lip liner with lipstick or gloss far too light.

not a trend (yet) but i’ve been looking the dark, smudgy, i slept in my makeup after a night out eyes. like the clumpy mascara and messed up eyeliner with a clean face. i know it was popular in the 90s but the Sky Ferreira does it a lot too.

I have full eyebrows, so the thicker brow trend is great for me because I don’t really have to do anything.

I agree with not liking the dewy skin trend. I think having a natural or satin finish looks nice, but a majority of TH-camrs I follow use a glowy SPF, followed by glowy primer, followed by a dewy foundation, then cream cheek products. That is just not possible for me in humid weather and with combo/oily skin.

I 100% agree with you - I'm so over the dewy look! I've always thought it looked rather shiny & unflattering on most people. Really the only people who can get away with it (and have it look healthy) is super young people - talking 15-22 year olds! Every one else looks ... undone. IMHO lol

    • @estellehowell4414
      @estellehowell4414 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Agree. If I see myself on camera for zoom / teams calls at work it's just not flattering if my skin looks shiny.
I don't want to go for overly matte either, on my more mature skin that would be drying, but something im between the two is the most flattering. Am enjoying plenty of hydrating skin care with a light powder foundation over the top to take the shine off.

Hahaha...this was fun! I completely disagree about the popsicle/blurred lip look; i can't stand it! And while i agree with you on appreciating the bright, bold blush look, i can't stand that particular shade when applied too heavily. It looks like how the skin looks after a really bad burn, and the skin has peeled and that's the new skin underneath. It just weirds me out.
