  • Aldridge Memories - The original VHS purchased from Bakers on the High Street in Aldridge for £10. Compiled in 1998 with views from The John Sale Collection - Presentation Stan Brookhouse - Research Don Heitzman - Video Production - Ronald Smith with thanks to Ian Eaton who did the transfer from VHS. In transferring it to youtube we have done little to the original video to keep its charm, just a little work on the sound. We met with John Sale who gave us his permission to release the video so that a new and wider audience could appreciate some of the history of Aldridge. John did say that anyone wishing to show their appreciation could make a donation to The Aldridge British Legion and support The Aldridge History Group. We are indebted to John, Stan, Don and Ronald who put the time and effort in to produce this work and hope that by making it available on you tube more people can learn a little of Aldridge recent history. I understand that there might be another VHS which we will try and track down. Please share your comments and thoughts.

I lived in Aldridge. 1964 to 1969. Lived at 112 Erdington Rd. Now live in Australia. Great memories. Had my first beer at the Elms. Regards David Pendry

Wonderful I really enjoyed this. It brought back a lot of memories of places now gone and names I'd forgotten. X

Left Aldridge in 1964 having attended Wesley Hall infants, Leighswood Junior, Redhouse Lane Junior and Tynings Lane Secondary schools. Went back a few weeks ago for a walk round and lunch in the Avion (Wetherspoons) nicely renovated. Many memories.

Thank you for uploading this video . I was brought up in Westgate Aldridge from 1961 until i moved away in 1990 . Fond memories of playing in the Ash Mounds Stubbers Green and the Atlas pool . My Mom used to bring the ice creams round in the interval at the Avion Cinema .

Yes indeed Ash Mounds, Perch pool, Brick and Tile the Atlas all those places were my fond childhood memories too from 1965 (lived on Leighswood Estate) - left UK in 1989 to Germany then came to America (citizen now). I notice now all those places GONE - replaced by factories - feel sorry for the kids in Aldridge for what they are missing now

@@HodgdonH110 Yes my friend , I'd forgotten the Perch pool ! Also catching newts in the Ash Mounds, swimming in the Atlas ,a gang of us walking over the frozen boating pool at Stubbers Green in the winter with the ice splintering under foot ! Riding out bikes around Linley woods down the Devils drop ! Discos at the Community Centre on the Common, Sunday discos at the Elms, the Hop and Grape. Buying the latest singles from Kings on the High St.All great memories :)

Loved the Parish church. The Avion cinema and played soccer on the Croft.

Totally loved this - I lived in Aldridge until just before my teens and for this reason am fascinated by the history of my childhood town. Thank you for sharing (:xxx

I wonder if Ronald Smith is the same Ron Smith that wrote “ A paddle in Hockley Brook”

Wow many thanks to all those involved in making this video - I'm a former Brit now an American. I was raised in Aldridge and attended the Cooper and Jordan school from 1963 to 1966 - I remember those buildings (41.08) as though it was yesterday and even Mr. Patterson (44.01) my Class Teacher in 1964
