For the 2nd cadance, you probably hired someone who is familiar with writing HBCU Drumline features. Almost sounds like the BCU 2017 Percussion Feature. Very good cadance.
Agreed - the other ones were too complex to be effective cadences. A cadence is something groovy you play during a parade where the rest of the band needs to be able to march in time at 120 bpm. It’s not a parking lot ram.
These were all surprisingly GOOOD for the money. I remember being a band meeting trying to find someone to write us a show and we were getting quotes for $1-5k per chart per piece per show regularly. Drum work was never under $500 per cadence. This was in the 90's.
Well you hold it about a 45 degree angle and hit the cymbal one side first then the other, though still in one stroke. If you hit the cymbal evenly on both sides at once then it makes like an air pocket. I did percussion in high school so I only kinda remember
Yea. I was learning cymbals for a bit, then my cymbal person who was teaching me seduced me and I never learned anymore. It’s something I still wish I could do more of as it was a lot of fun with the little bit I did learn
For $5.... that was worth every damn penny.... even without sticking and cymbal instructions... my other favorite was the $30 - that one was easy to settle in and march to.... Here's the thing that a lot of percussionist writers forget, they love to do these huge soli areas and show offs, but you have to remember the point of the cadence is so everyone can march in time together... maybe I'm old school, but I think a groove is the best way to do that...
My percussion director writes our cadences and he is really good at it too. My favorite cadence is Super Pickle which he made and is where we go down the line from Quads to Snare and we’ll play 2-3 measures of the groove then each person will have a solo
I would definitely say the first one is the best cadence. The other pieces are great in their own right, but the point of a cadence is to sound groovy, but also keep the band in step. Imagining a band trying to stay in step for the last cadence would be hilarious
It’s pretty despicable how little arrangers/writers get paid. My uni’s concert band director told me she’d pay me minimum wage hourly to make a baritone BC part transposed from the TC part. I went through and replicated the copyright info, the exact measure spacing all of that, so that it was as professional and close to the TC original as possible. She balked at having to pay me for 4 hours of work - $44. Said “is $25 okay?”
I actually liked all of the cadences. The last one was epic and I love how it varied in dynamics and feel. Having written cadences for my high school, I can appreciate the work that wen into each of these cadences.
Wow! I'm totally missed the notification for this new video. Saw the Dump Channel one, and posted a comment ... Then: 4+ hours after this video was released I saw this! I am losing my touch! And, as always, Snot McDuckie did an excellent job!
Good morning! I was not expecting another Fiverr video :o The amount of content in this is incredible - however I would looove to see you break these parts down (no. 2 specifically) and explain what you watered down because I'm really curious now what parts were originally written and why they were 'too hard' haha
I feel like with the first cadence the ending at 3:00 could’ve been like in the middle of that cadence instead of what was there with the cymbals doing the -xxxx- because I’m the middle of the cadence it sounded to dirty but at the ending with the cymbals split “xxxx” it sounded good
Great video! I was wondering if since your done with commodants own if you want to do DCA or whatever it's called when you can be any age over the summer?
Something i never understand is why parts HAVE to be harder as u write for a more experienced ensemble, in my opinion it means just write whatever i want to write and don’t worry about if they can play it, that means there’ll be 5lets there’ll be 7lets but it’s all groovy, hardest thing i’ve written is a trumpet 7let and i say that because the 5lets inside of a triplet into sixteenth notes(15let into 16th)my friend sightread it perfectly
@@Histgyph the ones he uses aren't what I used when I played tenors in HS. I had marching tenor mallets. Looks like the ones hes using are the same sticks he uses for his marching snare.
@@Histgyph I hadn’t ever seen him use marching tenor mallets. It’s always been a pet peeve of mine. But I’m sure he knows more then I do so I haven’t complained about it yet until this video.
I am in the 8th grade and I am going to be trying out for the highschool drumline in about 1-2 years when I am old enough would I be cut from the band or not pass auditions if I cannot preform propper grip or if I cannot preform the stick tricks?

It also kinda reminds me of some college band cadences (Michigan comes to mind)
First cadence (the $5 one) was definitely the grooviest. Simple yet effective
YES

@@mattlogan1 well said. They were just kinda hard for the sake of being hard.

Great cadences but that $5 one is the one that people would remember. Great chops but that tenor groove is infectious.
You can always tell when a snare drummer writes music by how the bass parts sound… #3 is a prime example.
Bingo!
Ha. I play sax and even I can tell. Snare goes fast and bass is more slow. Bass really was playing like a snare there
@@extremecowz7694 In very high level groups a lot of times the basses play the same thing as the snares
@@Histgyph cool
I'm a tenor player and I can have wanted to kill so many marching writes over it
We always have to rewrite the parts lmao
I would love a video about marching cymbal technique and notation. It is something I’m clueless about but fascinated by.

That's how I write my cadences, with a groove. It's something I took from Jeff Porcaro; always thinking about time, and groove.
Yes. that second one had far too much wankery in it that didn't groove.
I feel like that's only the point of some cadences. Other times the point of a Cadence is to annihilate your competition in a battle
@@FruitoftheSpirit-0909 only if your competition is afraid of people who can't figure out if it's left or right foot and the actual tempo
Watered down the second cadence because it’s above his skill level😳so this man is human

It is even funnier, the second time

Unionize drummers! Unionize writers! Sad state of affairs that we can sell ourselves for less. I can't watch. It breaks my heart. So much talent.

Honestly your cadence was professional and incredible. I was blown away by the $5 cadence like it probably took the guy 3 hours at least to do.
Those tenor shots give me so much happiness.

I know nothing about music writing, reading, playing, the lingo... I just love it. I enjoyed the first and last cadences best.
That last one was funky. Loved the cymbal feature near the end, not enough pieces utilize them to their full potential imo.
Look at that "FACE OF SERIOUSNESS" you have on these segments...Your facial expression is the SAME in all segments! Thumbs up for that!
Yay #2 most subscribed EMC channel!

Do I play percussion? No. Did I watch this confused asf? Yes. Did I enjoy it? Yeah
Honestly really enjoyed the $5 one!
Plot twist of the century
4th cadence was pretty good. The bass part was other worldly. Pulled off great
I knew the Hery Gillard cadence would be a sicko run. I've seen his channel a loong time ago and he's a true choppa.
I love to be new and to watcb your videos they are so interesting to watch and see how good people are
I liked the 5 dollar cadence alot.

Am I the only one who think that marching snare parts are amazing for trap hihats?
Woooo I’ve been waiting for this lol

Marching Band Gita Surosowan (Indonesia) using this 1st cadence, though with slightly different arrangement..
The last one would be hard to march to.
ummmmm
