I am so happy to see other people loving the 17th century! I think with the stays they are meant to be below your natural waist, because from what i could see they liked a long waist in the mid 17th century. The gores are meant to help keep them down. otherwise they are all looking great!!!

      Yay! It's so under-appreciated :\
That's interesting. I knew they wanted a long line, but I was under the impression the length of the front helped create the illusion of the longer waist. Isn't it uncomfortable if the tabs break below the waist? Is there a specfic point they're supposed to break at, instead?

@@FantasticalFolliesCostuming yeah it is so udner appreciated.
I think stays are meant to account for a slight curve at the waist and break 1 inch below the natural waist. I think the 17th century ones do the same but in the case of crimson ones (which I am working on now too) the gore's control the longer than normal break of the tabs.. if that makes sense

We definitely need to see shorts of the poems from the fashion plates!

and this just demonstrates some of the reasons why i have such a passionate dislike of stays. You did look like a floral penguine when demonstratinng your strap issues though, which was kinda cute. ive found that fumbling around is the best way that i learn. Videos and books obviously help, but actually trying anf failing really gets the concept cememted in my mind. well done on the pokemon fashion coordination. As someone who lives in a forest and can't afford a laundress, i can tell you that without a doubt its bloody annoying to have to clean mud/animal muck/ grass etc out of petticoats and skirts in general. so making them just that little shorter in length will save you a headache and also stay true to the class structure and time period. Yes, you really do need to do some readings in Old French!! POWER SLEEVES!! woohoo, brain reticule!!

LOL! That's me, the floral penguin! 🐧 I think I can fix it, though, to make them more mobile...though whether I'm successful yet remains to be seen!
I agree, I have to do the thing to really get it, although I also need to see it visually. That's why it took me so long to do the historical costuming--because I really needed Costube to help me visualize what I was doing.
And as someone who is short but too lazy to hem store bought skirts and dresses, I can confirm what a pain it is to get those stains out!

@@FantasticalFolliesCostuming twice I read that first sentence and read edible, instead of mobile! WTF?!?!
Yes, CosTube certainly had a positive effect on allowing people to make things that had just been so far out of reach in the past. And gave some of us the foundations of "so this is the basics... what would happen if..."
Yes it really is just a pain. Grass is the worst, with decomposing grass 10x worse than that! I've removed enough things that have a "do I want to know what this is" reaction, that it's pretty much guaranteed for me at this point😅 . If it makes you feel any better, I have to buy for the length, but I'm too lazy to take them in. So I just have the occasional rusty safety pin stabbing me.

Edible stays 🤣🤣 Ok, that gave me a good chuckle. Sounds like what you'd by in the back of Ye Olde Spencer's Giftes.

Yeah, I'm working 80-hour weeks right now. I did not have the time or the energy to make my mock up pretty for the camera. 🤷‍♀️

@@FantasticalFolliesCostuming mock ups aren't supposed to be pretty anyway. I don't think my comment come out the way I was hoping. It wasn't meant to be judgy or negative in any way. I'm sorry
