The materialism stems from not having. If you don't have a roof above your head than that's when a house can bring happiness or a car can give you a certain freedom. It's not always about having a bigger or better house or car but just simply have. Not saying it needs to be big or fancy just a new beginning with just some comfort which is not natural for everyone.
