The driver should drive and the person in the backseat is supposed to be a passenger letting the driver do the driving. This term also has a more general meaning of someone who is trying to control someone or tell someone how to do things. So this song is about letting God drive (and navigate). The view is beautiful from the backseat, which is where we should sit as those who trust God.
