Salut friends! Welcome to my Parisian Apartment! This is where I'm spending all my time during lockdown :) I hope you guys enjoy the visit and some of the history behind my place! If you have any questions, i'll find you in the comments below! Bisous xx
Well, then let’s say it like that in Europe it is way more common to not have a handle on the front door than it is in the US. I have never seen a door without a handle in the US. And the Airbnbs I stayed in Warszawa and Krakow didn’t have handles either. But they were older buildings, perhaps in newer buildings you have handles more often.
@@angelprincess818 well, yes there are door knobs, but often they don’t have a handle. In the sense that you can only open the front door with a key not just with the handle.
I used to live in Paris when I was 18, at my 40’s I don’t know I could survive those small rooms. I’m glad you can see the beauty of France and learn to enjoy simple living. Love your videos it reminds me of my youth years.
I own a house in the south of France. My washing machine broke down. I do not have a dryer. So to replace my washing machine I got one that has dual function washing and drying. Is a little more expensive, but it's worth -it especially when you have a small space,
Can I just say how much I LOVE your apartment. It is so charming and cute and this is exactly what I would picture if I moved to Paris. Your home is just so cute and beautiful. Good job on the decorating.
Hello, as I know pretty well the parisian real estate market, I can tell that your appartement is really well optimized for 42 sqm ! 2 rooms (with window), not so small living/kitchen, and a seperate toilet ! Really nice :)
Thanks!! I completely agree! When we visited the place for the first time, we literally made an offer in the stairwell of the building after visiting it, lol. We saw a lot of potential by knocking down a wall or two and being able to maxmise but not having a hallway anywhere. Or just a mini one :)
Hearing you was like a trip down memory lane! I rented a chambre de bonne in the 16eme way back in 1972! It had a little lavabos, a bidet, and toilets down the hall that were shared. I had to travel to a friend's grandmother's apartment twice a week for a bath. She was very typically French, and thought twice a week was typically American and wasteful! Your Paris apartment is so beautifully done! Love your taste!
Apartment where I lived till I was 36 had four rooms, a kitchen, and a separate toilet and a bathroom. No common area. There were 6 of us: my grandma, my parents, me with my husband and our daughter. Six generations under the same roof. So let me tell that your apartment is a wonderful place. I think that separate toilet with a sink is the blessing for a family. No one knocking on your door. Also when traveling in Europe I appreciated the towel warmer. Thanks for your video.
The wanderer in me loved this video. Thank you so much for sharing your place. I’m from Missouri- would love to travel to France someday- and this tour was perfect for these “stay put” kind of times.
So fun to see this. Thanks ! Your chambre de bonne takes me back. I lived in chambre de bonne in a modern building in the 16eme, Boulevard Lannes on the first floor. You could almost touch the metro train out my tiny window. 100NF/ mois. Or $20 per month 6 sq. Meters. The concierge was More scary than a large hungry tiger seen mid air coming at you. Thanks for the tour.
It looks like one of these appartments on tv that get a makeover to optimise small spaces. Very nice. The beams in the kitchen are a happy constraint, they give it character. Have you tought of stickers on the window panes in the small room? You'd keep the natural light while blocking the view.
Thank you Amelie! And great idea for the stickers on the window. We put something like that in our bathroom when i realized in the shower that the tiny window had total access when we were showering (ehhhhh) but i didnt think about it for Ele's room, but good point!
@@UnintentionallyFrenchified better if you provide a sand-jet treatment to your daughter’s bedroom window. And I would also sugest you instale a safe net outside that balcony. That way you can open the window/door to enable vital fresh air to circulate safely.
Thanks for the tour. I thought the beams were some sort of fun sculpture of baguettes! Re the baby'swindow you could put in a suspension rod 3/4 of the way up the window and hang a very sheer curtain. Same for your bedroom window until the shade is fixed. Also, if you used a sconce light next to your bed you could remove the table and you would each have space to get up from the bed w/o disturbing each other. I am used to making do ;-)
Agree about adding sconces next to the bed... Another idea 💡 for the baby's room is to add a privacy film to the window which still lets in light while adding privacy. They have several very pretty designs on the market...
Hello, thank you for the tour. 😊 your appartement is very well decorated and cosy. Concerning the dryer, I think you could get a washing machine that does both wash and dry. Anyway, I am sure your already knew that. Happy to see that you love France. Have a beautiful day! 😊
That's a great use of space to have 2 bedrooms in such a small area. Plus I love the 1/2 bath and separate bathtub room, that way when someone is in the shower someone else can use the toilet.
Very nice apartment :) Even for Paris, 42m² is very small for a 2 bedroom. Eleonore's room was certainly the place where the kitchen initially was, before it was moved to the living room. Also, the "master bedroom" was certainly created by splitting the original living room into 2 parts.
Love it! It looks like you've made quite the cozy little space for the three of you :) And not too small for Paris, either. Super cute decorating, too!
Thanks so much! We've tried to make it as cozy as we can and I totally agree that it's not neccessarily "small" for Paris. But i still feel like it's small when I compare with my life as a kid growing up in the midwest :)
@@UnintentionallyFrenchified Oh, well there, I hear ya! I'm from Kansas and we lived in the country when I was a kid... I don't think we can really compare a Midwestern family home with a Parisian apartment. But the most important part is the love between the walls, no matter the size of the home. :)
Love being able to peek behind the curtain. Very cute apartment. Reminds me of my sister's place in NYC - it's 700 sq ft (not sure in sq meters). I can't imagine having 1 bathroom, but when you are used to it, it doesn't seem to be a problem! Thank you!!!

Love your place and how you have renovated and squeezed all the extra storage in... very clever and your decoration is beautiful.... but the fridge.... well that will be a funny video for the future no doubt 😀👍
Omg my memories of France, been all over & lived there 9 years! The toilets 🚽 aren’t important to them, visiting restaurants & finding one toilet for men & women, goodness the smell lol 😆 Hygiene wasn’t a priority but I adore France. The vibe. My husband adored France & we were doing Canal di midi this year but unfortunately he got extremely poorly & died in January 2020. I have had a wonderful life travelling France & a lot of stays in Paris. Love love love your apartment 🌹❤️
Thank you for sharing, loved to see it 😊🙏🏼 It looked really nice, and you used the place very well 🙌 I have lived tiny myself for Norwegian standards. 22kvm studio apartment, with bathroom in the not heated basement. We are talking minus 10 decrees Celsius in the winter, sometimes more the winters I lived there, and no heating, so I felt I lived the Amish live then going to the pottie 😆🙈 My apartment was also above the basement, so the floor was freezing cold. But it was cheap and central, and it worked 🙌 I now live in a 30-35kvm alone. Dorm room fridge and a tiny kitchen, but okay size for the rest of the apartment. I have lived many places, and the layout and storage solutions are a key. You can live large but it is not a good layout and no storage or small and it has a great storage. When I lived in the small studio there was very good build in storage in the kitchen and for my clothes and other things and I had a storage room in the basement too. Now I have no storage room at all, and it can be difficult, but you just have to make it work. I am glad though that I don’t have a bike or winter sport gear, for that would have been difficult to store. I do store my nice chair to sit outside in the bathroom, and extra chairs for guests under the sofa 😆😆 Most things you can find a room for, and I lived in 65kvm in between these two mentions of apartment, and it was cheap, and new and nice, but not the easiest landlords. They was okay, but at the end I was okay with moving and half the size, with not the best kitchen, and no storage are better with easier landlords, close to a grocery store, and a little more central, but still in the same area. I live in a suburban neighborhood of a larger city in Norway, more like in the country side of the city, but there are building a lot, so city central is coming closer, but it is still a cheaper place to live since it is more on the country side. It is 15-20 minutes with bus in to city center, many places has longer time, but are not that countrylike so I just enjoy the luxury of living pretty cheap and very little rush time in to the city 😍😍 (Yeah I am babbling, I live alone, and this was kind of nice to talk a little 🙈) Love from Johanne, Norway 💕
your apartment is gorgeous!!! And for Paris, the size is really good. Well done for the decoration and the makeover, the open space is very nice! About the doorknob: I live in Avignon (and I've lived in many different towns and cities in the South East of France) and these types of doors are actually common in office buildings and condos / apartments but I've never seen such doorknobs in individual houses!
You've made the best out of the space you have. Nicely done. I don't know how you do it--living in such a small space after being raised in the US. This is typical of how people live throughout central Europe, but even smaller spaces.
Adored your video 😊 Such a warm and bubbly personality. Made me laugh how you made all the bad points of your place seem homely with your humour and love for France 🌟
C'est pas des pièces mais des placards...! Mais mignon! Perso, je n'aime pas Pigalle ni Montmartre, il y a des micro-quartiers dans Paris qui ont plus de charme. Tu connais la Butte aux Cailles?
I feel like they didn’t tell you the proper square meters when you bought it because my place is the same size and you have wayyyy more space, but either way, you’ve done so much with it and it’s really cute! Actually love the beams in the kitchen - really speak to the history of the building and are incredibly unique
I think she may have mixed her meters and feet because her daughter's room looks more like 7 square feet but I think she said square meters. Still, a really great apartment.
I think she got it right, I always lived in two bedroom, 60+ square meter apartments and i can tell her apartment is quite small. She made a wonderful job decorating it and getting the best out of the space she has though.
Though I am American, like you are, I come from a large family and think that separating the toilet from the bath is perfect! If one is in the bath, they are not constantly interrupted because someone needs to use the restroom and the reverse where I am not dancing and squirming in the hallway because my sister is taking a long time in the bath. I find it very practical. What is it about a dryer that is hard on the environment? I have an energy star dryer that uses less power and I don't ever see the need to run it on high. Towels are more absorbent if you don't use fabric softener (and I don't) and they usually aren't too stiff if you get all of the soap out but a quick fluff in the dryer makes them even softer. I am open for any educational insights about the disadvantages of dryers. Love your apartment! You did a great job with it and I can't help but chuckle over the dancers pole and the disco lighting. My age is showing. Thanks!
Thanks for showing us around! Always wondered what a true Parisian apartment would look like & yours looks fabulous. Reminds me of my first apartment in NYC when I got married 10 years ago. Hope you guys make many more happy memories there. Also love your outfit!
Thank you so much! It's going to be hard to leave here someday when we want more space because we've already made so many memories here! It's amazing how attached you can get to your home :) And the pants are from & Other Stories this season and the top is just thin cashmere sweater!
Kate your place is really nice. we have a 51m appartment but there is so much wasted space. your place is well spaced and you did a great job decorating it. Thank you for sharing it.
First thing that caught my eyes in your appartment was the Largo Winch series on the shelf in the intro, instantly thought "that's my kind of guys"! haha! And then you said your husband is a Pastis Man! Whooohooo! I had to subscribe!
You have so much more room than I do but you pay double and live in Paris. When I arrived 4 months ago I was so shocked about the toilet being separate from the sink and shower, I’m still not used to it. Thanks for sharing your lovely apartment with us!
I completely relate because while it doesn't shock me anymore, i ALWAYS notice when a toilet is seperate from the bathroom. It's just so european for me! :)
I used to live in the 18th arrt near Montmartre, it was a 45m2, and i never thought it was possible to have 2 bedrooms in it and look so lovely, great job!
A 1 bedroom apartment in downtown San Diego will definitely cost you more than $1900. Let alone cities like New York or San Francisco. Paris looks like a pretty good deal for a world city.
Hahah thanks Diane! I didn't mention in the video but we actually had to get rid of some noise proof cabinets in the living room as well so that the previous landlord could blast the music and practice on her time off! I always thought the history behind the apartment was so fun. :)
Just curious...are all your clothes literally on that hanging rack we see in your bedroom or is there another closet somewhere that we didn’t see at all? Love your apartment and your use of the space.
Hello Kate and Family, What a lovely interior arrangement. For so few square meters, the space is very well optimized and it's tastefully decorated (very French I think, both sober and refined, but with a few fantasies here and there, like the "Pastis" plate in the toilets, yes definitely very French lol. Congratulations for it. In addition, it's apparently still quite well equipped (bath, towel heater, the toilets with small sink and separate from the bathroom, pantry in the kitchen). When we watch American movies, tv series, homes restoration shows that take place in the USA, we understand why you have so much fun emphasizing the very concentrated side of the bedroom space hahaha. In the USA you are apparently quite used to large, very spacious rooms with enormous "king size" beds. It's sure it changes compared to Paris. :))) On the other hand, a little friendly advice by the way, remember to unplug the washing machine each time you use the water in the bathtub. Or if you swaddle your children on this machine. It's very dangerous (really dangerous). In Paris, it's "tolerated" * because spaces are very limited in the accommodation, and many houses are classified in Parisian urban planning and therefore restoration work isn't always possible. Kind regards, (sorry for my English) * But maybe not by your home insurance, beware in case of an accident, you might not be covered if the appliance or the electrical outlet are not spaced at least 1 meter from any point of water (This is also valid for the kitchen).
Thanks so much for the input! I had honestly never thought how dangerous that could be!! And glad you enjoyed the video! But seriously, the king size beds in the US are outrageous. But at the same time, sometimes I miss them! ;)
Long time subscriber, first time commenter. Love your videos, I've always thought the only thing missing was some video footage of beautiful Paris and France. Would love more material with you out and about and on the go!
Really great tour! In London, renting is so expensive that it's actually cheaper to buy. But it's also super expensive to buy so you have to be super lucky to be in the financial situation where you can pay for a deposit and stamp duty, etc. But once you can, it's so much better financially to buy.
I completely agree. When we bought our place 5 years ago, it was WAY more affordable than it is now and our mortgage payments were similar to rent, so we just needed to come up with the intial down payment. But everyone isn't in that situation so it really bothers me how rent just keeps climbing. It's making the city really unaffordable for people and Paris won't be the same without a diverse population!
@@UnintentionallyFrenchified Totally agree. It's such a problem in London. I find it so unfair that I was lucky enough to buy my flat and I am now so much more financially comfortable because I don't rent. Super hard to get on the property ladder in London!
Love what you've done and thank you for showing us.I'm a kiwi (human not bird!), and want to say the kiwi bird is not blind, but has poor eyesight, and it has very good hearing, which makes sense if you are nocturnal and need to find grubs etc in the dark. Also, it is unique in that it's nostrils are at the tip of it's beak.
@@UnintentionallyFrenchified | You do so many videos from that cramped-looking corner occupied by a bookcase that I began subconsciously assuming you lived in a tiny Parisian shack! Nope, your place is a palace (by dorm standards). :-p
my kitchen is literally bigger then your kitchen AND living room together. with that said im really impressed that you guys can cook dinner for 2,5 people. i always find my self complaining why we do not have cooking space in the our big ass kitchen...
Salut! I've just stumbled across your channel. When I stay in Paris I often rent an apartment off the rue Lepic ... it's a really lovely area. Your apartment is very cosy and well planned, I particularly love your kitchen and sitting area, it's very stylish. :)
😅 that’s pretty expensive. In the 13th district you would pay the same mortgage for a 70sq meters apartment. Montmartre is really a touristy spot and thus the price you pay for.
But the apartment is really pretty, and the view outside is cool - all these points make up the price. But I agree it's expensive, of course. This said, you often can find jobs with better incomes in Paris, and that's why everything can be more expensive, because people can afford to pay. A circle...
I adore the video! The graphics were super cute and I loved the transitions. Also, I def want to mention that you look so amazing 😍😍!! Your hair is glowing and your skin is so clear!
So small and sweet. Lovely place but I can’t even imagine having so little storage. Do you have to cull a lot of stuff? For example do you just have a capsule wardrobe? Where does the pram go? Your bikes? And where and how do you dry your clothes??
Le fait que ce soit petit se remarque presque pas tellement c'est magnifiquement décoré j'adore!d'ailleurs cela me fait penser à ma cousine qui vient de trouver un appartement sur le site web bailti

It is 15-20 minutes with bus in to city center, many places has longer time, but are not that countrylike so I just enjoy the luxury of living pretty cheap and very little rush time in to the city 😍😍
(Yeah I am babbling, I live alone, and this was kind of nice to talk a little 🙈)
Love from Johanne, Norway 💕
your apartment is gorgeous!!!
My Czech apartment had the same kind of door. I liked how it was a little more secure because you can't open it without the key.
Montmartre is absolutely my favorite part of Paris. Lucky you!
Thank you for sharing the video of your lovely home. I love learning about how people live all over the world. I have always been interested in Paris!
I have more Square meters and my place seems smaller. Only 1 bedroom, slightly bigger than theirs but still.
@@notbroken4342 Keep in mind that the big IKEA shelving / organizational unit was taking up quite a bit of floor space in Ele's room.
This apartment is adorable! Cozy, clean, and nice! I love it,
Though I am American, like you are, I come from a large family and think that separating the toilet from the bath is perfect!
Thanks!
love how your english is being french-ified... so cute 💕 and love your space!
Beautiful home and style! I love the windows in your appartment, so french!
Have recently found your channel and i enjoy your vlogs sooooo much.
Kate your place is really nice. we have a 51m appartment but there is so much wasted space. your place is well spaced and you did a great job decorating it. Thank you for sharing it.
You should get a combo washing machine /dryer. Electrolux make good ones !
Thanks for the tip!
Totally agree - saved my life when I lived in London. Also, you put dirty clothes in and get clean dry clothes out! Miracle 😀
My wihe's Mexican and they're also used to use dryer, then as we're in Paris, we bought a LG combo and it work's fine ;)
I was going to make this exact comment. So glad I scrolled through and saw yours first!
Really enjoyed this video & loved your appartment
First thing that caught my eyes in your appartment was the Largo Winch series on the shelf in the intro, instantly thought "that's my kind of guys"! haha! And then you said your husband is a Pastis Man! Whooohooo! I had to subscribe!
Vous êtes très sympathique. Votre appartement est bien décoré. Merci pour la visite.
I know this sounds odd, but that toilet room was so cute. Nice apartment.
Oh, you have such a lovely place!! Thanks for letting us in and showing us around. It's so charming and functional at the same time.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed the visit :)
I used to live in the 18th arrt near Montmartre, it was a 45m2, and i never thought it was possible to have 2 bedrooms in it and look so lovely, great job!
Absolutely so charming! It’s perfect! So happy for you and your beautiful family!
Your apartment is so beautiful and cozy! And so great to have laundry in the Unit ❤️
A 1 bedroom apartment in downtown San Diego will definitely cost you more than $1900. Let alone cities like New York or San Francisco. Paris looks like a pretty good deal for a world city.
It's beautiful warm and cozy i love it.
Yeah! Junk drawers, the world wide wonder. I’m always fascinated by so many different world apartment tours they exist.
Love your home ❤️ The first thing I recognized right away are your Stokke tripp trapp.. best investment, all 3 of my kids uses them.
Ahhh, LOVE IT, Kate! Such a great space... and hilarious about the pole!!
Hahah thanks Diane! I didn't mention in the video but we actually had to get rid of some noise proof cabinets in the living room as well so that the previous landlord could blast the music and practice on her time off! I always thought the history behind the apartment was so fun. :)
Agreed You would have kept it for yr daughter, eh eh. Btw 7m2 kiddo Rm you did a great job
Just curious...are all your clothes literally on that hanging rack we see in your bedroom or is there another closet somewhere that we didn’t see at all? Love your apartment and your use of the space.
C'est Magnifique!! Beautiful flat
Hello Kate and Family,
What a lovely interior arrangement.
On the other hand, a little friendly advice by the way, remember to unplug the washing machine each time you use the water in the bathtub. Or if you swaddle
your children on this machine. It's very dangerous (really dangerous).
In Paris, it's "tolerated" * because spaces are very limited in the accommodation, and many houses are classified in Parisian urban planning and therefore restoration work isn't always possible.
Kind regards,
(sorry for my English)
* But maybe not by your home insurance, beware in case of an accident, you might not be covered if the appliance or the electrical outlet are not spaced at least 1 meter from any point of water (This is also valid for the kitchen).
Thanks so much for the input! I had honestly never thought how dangerous that could be!! And glad you enjoyed the video! But seriously, the king size beds in the US are outrageous. But at the same time, sometimes I miss them! ;)
@@UnintentionallyFrenchified As we used to say in France: "Mieux vaut un petit chez soi qu'un grand chez les autres". :))
Such a lovely place to live a beautiful apartment with such a cute presence of a cozy family home. Thanks for sharing.😁👏👍🍷❤
Long time subscriber, first time commenter. Love your videos, I've always thought the only thing missing was some video footage of beautiful Paris and France. Would love more material with you out and about and on the go!
Thanks ! That would be great but not so easy to film outside :) I did a tour of Paris though, it’s on the channel if you haven’t seen it !
I would love a video on renter’s rights vs owner’s rights!
Good idea!
The front door knob thing is definitely a European thing. I live in Madrid and I have the same one. I loved the tour, it's such a nice cozy place 😃
So nice that you showed us your appartement. From my Paris experience I would say that you have found a really beautiful place :)
Thanks! We love it! :)
@@UnintentionallyFrenchified | You do so many videos from that cramped-looking corner occupied by a bookcase that I began subconsciously assuming you lived in a tiny Parisian shack! Nope, your place is a palace (by dorm standards). :-p
i'm totally living vicariously through these videos
Moi aussi!
my kitchen is literally bigger then your kitchen AND living room together. with that said im really impressed that you guys can cook dinner for 2,5 people. i always find my self complaining why we do not have cooking space in the our big ass kitchen...
Salut! I've just stumbled across your channel. When I stay in Paris I often rent an apartment off the rue Lepic ... it's a really lovely area. Your apartment is very cosy and well planned, I particularly love your kitchen and sitting area, it's very stylish. :)
I just stumbled across your channel and I love it! Thanks for sharing your awesome life with us!
What a darling home. Kudos on how you maximized the space. Baby’s room is adorable 🌞👍🏻
Thanks !
I love it!! This balcony makes perfect match ❤❤
I put blackout blinds on all my windows right before Covid. It was pricey. But it really made me feel cocooned.
An aside - your hair is always heavenly
I LOVED YOUR KITCHEN and THE SITTING ROOM.
New to your channel. Salut! ...I love that you worked your way up on Paris apartments :) Hope your enjoying your current place. So jealous!
Love your apartment. Pretty good size, well designed.
