its not an uncommon thing in the show. 3 or so spongebob episodes also referenced Sunset Boulevard from the 1950s. the "im ready for my close up quote" is probably the most famous one
Only episode that actually creeped me out as a kid is that Atlantis SquarePantis special specifically the live actions segments with patchy the pirate. Him hallucinating and seeing David J. Steinberg cosplaying as a mini SpongeBob as well as the three creepy alien puppets at the end. It was so random and looked like a cursed skit out of context 😭
I'm usually not too happy about them taking episodes off the air (seriously, they never should have removed "Mid-Life Crustacean"), but I think it was a good call with "Are You Happy Now." That episode was disturbing, miserable to watch, and not at all funny.
@@jurepec5779 It may sound like a creepypasta but hear me out. Basicly spongebob asks sqidward if he has a happiest memory but he doesnt which makes squiward fall in depression to the point that there is a joke about suicide(no joke you look this up) after that spongebob takes squidward to the krusty krab where he had organized a party for squidward tho no one came so spongebob made a bunch of copies of himself which makes squidward go insane pulling a chainsaw out of nowhere destroying everything and ending the episode with squidward yelling''This is my happiest memory''.Seasons 5-8 were weird man.
The environments were just so creepy, lonely, uncanny and sterile. And then in the final part where Squidward gets stuck in the white void is just straight up existential dread as squid gets trapped in a place outside reality.
that episode where squidward gets concrete poured on him and is named smelly was equally disturbing. a sapient being like Squidward was unexpectedly trapped in a concrete shell, unable to plea for help and was forced into assuming a entirely new identity away from society. like imagine the void regarding his social life when his neighbors eventually find out he's missing, his boss starts not seeing him at work, his mail piles up, etc. if his house doesn't slowly rot away, someone buys it and replaces every living remnant of his past life with their own, and the missing individual is no longer a concern. scary ass shit
This episode was so creepy and disturbing that it inspired a horror game called “Around the Clock in Bikini Bottom”. While I do recommend checking it out and playing it for yourself I’d say prepare yourself
You ain't the only one doc, I also didn't think much of that episode until I was reminded of it thanks to this video. Imagen a full on horror movie based on those specific aliens, a nightmare mania will plague the nation for sure.
I’d also like to mention that there’s a Spongebob horror fan game that serves as an unofficial sequel to the episode. It’s called Around the Clock at Bikini Bottom by Dave Microwave Games, released in 2021.
Dave Microwave made a Spongebob horror fangame based on this episode. It is called “Around The Clock At Bikini Bottom”. It is probably the best fanmade Spongebob horror game on the internet. It’s kinda unfortunate that not a lot of gamers who play indie horror games are not aware of the existence of this masterpiece. As well as some forgot to continue their experience with this game and abandon it. It literally looks like an official Spongebob game even though it is not. Has lots of references to a lot of episodes and even some old Spongebob video games. Underrated games too.
Dave Microwave (the creator) has also made a Scooby-Doo horror game, Dead by Daylight inspired singleplayer game and a new game called vex clock which you can wishlist on steam
About the black eyes its just for us to see it visually Its like making characters transparent instead of fully invisible you understand thet in universe they are accualy invisible but we allsow should be able see them
I always thought the green jellien eating the normal jellyfish was kinda dark even for this episode since it’s played eerily straight and they never really show anyone being killed that isn’t in some over the top fashion.
Spongebob being fine without a helmet in Sandy's dome and then putting one on later actually isn't inconsistent. In the episode where he visits Sandy for the first time, he's able to go a few minutes before starting to dry out.
This episode is such a good concept for a Spongebob game. Im honestly surprised Nickelodeon hadn't done it sooner. I know there's an indie game with this exact premise, and it's honestly great. It's called Around the Clock at Bikini Bottom. It's worth giving a try. But I'd love to see an official, polished game ab the concept
The "Giant Green Jellien" is actually known as the Overlord. I know because this is one of my favorite episodes in the modern seasons. Not to mention I'm currently playing the horror game based on this episode.
The normal fish dude wasn't freaked out by their looks either, which means their looks are for us. In the universe, they look the same, which, to me, is worse.
For me the episode "Squidward in Clarinetland" is the single creepiest and scariest out of all the named in this video, easily. This shit is nightmare material. I dont know why nobody talks about it
I been watching all your videos, but never commented until NOW. Since I'm a HUGE SpongeBob fan, and this SO interesting!!! NEW subber here by the way, KEEP IT UP, and GOOD LUCK!!
This episode is one of my favorites. SpongeBob has always done horror/scifi/creepy really well. Honestly it didnt scare me or creep me out as a kid. In fact when it comes on I get excited
One of the creepy (maybe even scary) episode in my opinion was when SpongeBob was procrastinating on an essay for boating school. That scared me as a kid.
Call me stupid but I feel like the reason SpongeBob can't recognise their not .. themselves is maybe cause he can't see it. It's like when a character is invisible but we can still see them, it's for the audience
When I was a kid, this episode scared me. I was scared that the weird green jellyfish thing would eat me. “Are you happy now” also really scared me. Overall, I had nightmares for a few days
I remember not falling asleep because I watched it as my first SpongeBob episode (that I remember (meaning I know I watched SpongeBob before but this is my first memory of the show)) and I just didn't sleep for like a night or two because I had a SpongeBob plush and a SpongeBob picture w/me and at the dark I didn't see their eyes so I thought they were black, good times.
I mean the episode with the flying dutchman living with spongebob is more scary than creepy but I think it should be mentioned when talking about horror themed spongebob episodes
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO'S ACTUALLY TALKING ABOUT THIS EPISODE!!! low-key this and are you happy now are my most favorite and darkest episodes that's why i love them both! Funny that they both got me shocked and spooked and scared to be alone honestly.... And i wish right about this episode giving me a 70s movie vibe lol

I remember this one episode as a kid that legitimately felt like a freaking Creepypasta the moral of the episode was Mr Krabs use Sandy to develop a new formula this of course backfires and it turns everybody who eats the new recipes / Krabby Patty into a Krabby Patty themselves with gross proportions they then tear bits of them self off and Shove It Down innocent people's throats and make them eat it then they turn into one of them it's traumatized me
I forgot this episode existed. You reawakened the memory of this freaking me out as a kid lol
Yup me too
I didn’t and I never will.

I remembered that this comment just said “I forgot this episode existed”
Yeah this one was very scary
Ah yes, an episode that's a reference to Invasion of the Bodysnatchers, a reference NO KID would get.
Likewise, the episode with Spongebob's squeaky boots is a reference to Edgar Allen Poe's 'The Telltale Heart'. Super random references lol
Am i the only one who wasnt bothered by this episode as a kid?
Yes but theres older fans here too, why not inject a bit of classic horror movie in there
