I found it crazy that everyone in winner’s top 8 were huge threats for Leo at this tournament. Tea took him to last hit and was a frame away from winning, KEN has a winning record on Leo, and Proto won the last time they played
Yeah, and Shuton also could have beat Leo as he holds a 2-0 record on him.
Imo, If Leo still remains the King of Ult but doesn’t have an absolute iron grip on the game, then it is very interesting from a spectator pov

and they are still nowhere near as good as Leo. I really hate the mentality of "If I beat you one time or two then I am better than you despite you winning 99% of the time" I like how if anyone beats leo it means they are instantly better than Leo or they are super threats to him or something. No.

Mexico and Japan are definitely the strongest regions, but they dont typically play against one another. I think the last couple tournaments have proved theres at least some people close, if not already there.
I’ve NEVER seen Leo play this aggressive before. Has to be the heaviest character he’s ever played too. Some of the survivals were nuts. Absolutely insane set.

What I took away from this: Proto's mash is easily the best of all time. Legit insane that he could mash out of those down throws at those percents
Nah, Rob's is incredibly easy to mash out of. I escape it at 140+ near instantly when I play Robs. Buries like inkling roller or DK headbutt I never seem to get out of no matter what
hes probs mashing for the pummel,,, ur able to mash out of robs dthrow during the animation

I was thinking about it seriously and maybe is the controller, because short time ago when Metroid dread came out, Speedrunners were improving their times by using controllers which allow them to shoot faster than the normal ones.
Despite that, I'm not sure, maybe is just skill, but I try to scape the rob bury as fast as I can and I never do it that fast in high percents.

What a fucking MONSTER Proto is. This dude beat Leo more times in one evening than some people have since Ultimate STARTED.
Protobanham is so damn good, he just does not go down without a fight. Almost got JV4'd at the start of their first set in Winners, then goes on to take home the tournament, after winning 2 sets against MKLeo the 🐐. Proto is definitely my favourite player from Japan. That man is WILD. 👍

Most top Japanese players outside Shuton can be inconsistent in Japan. Between a lot of truly talented top players, hidden bosses, char specialist who can matchup check, and lots of BO3s due to venue restrictions, upsets are pretty common in Japan

Great tournament, so happy for Proto. Leo being able to play Grand Finals with 5+ different characters is incredible. I think the meta is heading that way, in which you'll have to be proficient with 2-3 characters and counter picking matchups becomes fundamental.
ROB is so big, he managed to crash the Grand Finals Party despite no other dedicated ROB mains in Top16.
Seeing this at midnight was such a treat I can’t believe how hype I got for Leo’s rob. Proto a demon though as always

Also japan is very hard to enter right now because of covid but thats an exception. But there were super majors it wouldve been worth for these people to attend.

Honestly might be the threat of the arms vs the tether recovery by doing what proto does when he drops off ledge and ram rams. Rob doesnt really have to worry about it so long as he has gas he will make it back whereas joker gets caught out the tether by ram ram and it's a wrap
He doesn't want to have to play perfect to win essential. He said he has to play at 100 to play Joker. Thats why he uses Mythra over Joker, she's less work.

I knew Proto had it in him to take a super major over MkLeo. I’m glad that he got to shine again and hopefully he’ll come out to the states for often. Literally the only Min Min to get results with her consistently and pulling out some new tricks I haven’t seen other Min Min’s do. Amazing performance to both actually.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Leo is at his scariest once he has downloaded his enemy. He's not quite there with Min Min just yet and you can tell.

Proto takes a mile for you getting hit by stray arm hits and its telling that Leo's trying to work out mid match what is and isn't punishable

Leo is by far the best player in the world. He can pick up almost any character and win. The only thing is min min dosnt allow Leo to play the spacing/neutral he is known for. He needs a fast rushdown character that dosnt need to jump to get inside on min min.

I’m already seeing a bunch of Min Min hate in the comments, so let me put this out there:
Protobanham has been practicing and perfecting Min Min since she came out, and only just recently started getting super strong international results with her. Meanwhile, MKLeo picked up R.O.B. about *two months ago* and nearly won this entire tournament with him.
I get that Leo is Leo, but that doesn’t excuse R.O.B. He has zero-to-deaths. He has inarguably the best projectile in the game. He has a top 3 recovery in the game. He has ridiculously strong and ridiculously safe aerials. He has a frame two down tilt that sets up into tech chases at higher percents. He has a bury throw and a kill throw. I could go on and on.
Long story short, there is a character in this Grand Finals that is unbelievably broken and unfair and deserves a lot of hate. *But that characters name absolutely isn’t Lucina or Min Min.*
I would say ROB and Min Min are around the same level. Some players, like ESAM, think MIn MIn is better.
He definitely doesn't have a top 3 recovery.

Leo is the kind of player who is never defensive or passive. That's why he is great.
Personally I'd say hes not passive, but he is defensive, his gameplay is very safe and calculated, figuring out how to cover the most options as safely as possible, and lining that up with what they're actually doing in situations then averaging that all out. Dudes a genius. I mean his swordie characters all kind of just box you out, they're not passive they're constantly actively doing things, but those things are defensive.
