Vtec solenoid, its in the back behind the oil fill. the rubber gasket gose bad then leaks behind. Also check power steering pump O rings on the high pressure line and return line they go bad to,
Thanks for posting the video. I did not know where all the bolts were or the locations on backside of valvecover next to firewall when beginning this job. This video was very helpful with that. Also with how to remove black plastic cover on back, above the injectors and fuel rail. Honestly though there is NO NEED to remove coil sticks (packs) to remove valvecover. Thanks again!!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I think cuz it isnt fully comprehensive. There is an explanation of how to but we really dont see the work in action. Some people learn visually. This video kinda just makes it seem like a snap of the fingers n boom, done. Just a thought
I removed the cam cap pkug slowly, but 2 of 4 clip on the cap broke at the tip. Do you know if it landed in the oil pan or where it most likely is? I think I may need to do a oil change... any input or experience with accidentally breaking the clips fix would help.
Awwwwww…. Yeah, those tabs would fall into the area where the timing chain is, I’m pretty sure. If it gets in the chain, it will probably just get chewed up. Probably. Although, there is the risk it may mess up the timing chain guide. It’s up to you whether or not you think it’s worth the risk to run it as is, or remove the timing cover to get those tabs out.
I did the valve cover gasket and cam plug.. this video was very helpful! New camshaft plug has been dry forever, but unfortunately, I recently discovered a leak on the other side (just left of the airbox). Are there two camshaft plugs? One on the passenger side and one on the driver's side? I'm trying to figure out where the leak is coming from. Thanks!
Did the new cam plug come with the o ring already on it? I was going to order 12513-P72-003 for my 2008 Civic LX sedan, Automatic and I wanted to make sure I didn't also need to order the o ring. Thanks
The back four bolts are a absolute pain in the ass! Be pre pared to be frustrated. I used a short 1/4 drive ratchet and a long 10mm bolt for most of it and one I got with my battery powered ratchet
Bought "NewYall Cylinder Head Rear Cam Plug" from amazon which they claimed fits the car lol. I took a look at it and the O-ring that they had in there doesn't even protrude past the channel so I don't know how is it going seal anything.
I did this cam plug job on my 03 civic. I find it only replace the cam plug if you see oil leaks because that way it’s easier to replace since it’s loosely it’s place then you can gently pry it off with screw driver on the edges a bit of a time going 360.
That’s awesome you got it out without removing the cover! I tried, but the plug just kept breaking. And yes, I verified that this was the source of the leak before changing it.
I just bought a 06 civic,,,, I’m saying to myself what did I do,,,,, lol. There’s oil leaks all over it. This is a stupid design. I’ve been a Lexus yota person for 30 yrs but always liked this civic but man the more and more I dive into this it’s a head case. Leaks from the VVT solenoid on that back side passenger. Don’t forget there’s another cam cap on other side that’s really a pain in the azz to remove and there’s a cover on the back of the engine you gotta remove a lot to get to it. It’s the most difficult one next to head gasket replacement if needed. lol. Mine has 124,000 by the way.

That car is long gone, but thanks!

What torque did u torque the bolts, other people says 7 and u said 9...?
Seems to be 7.2. Check this entry civic.hondafitjazz.com/A00/HTML/30/SNB6E30A14600017811KCAT00.HTML
I torque to 7 foot pounds

I’m not sure, sorry.
@@CliffsHowTo Looks like there is a camshaft thrust plate that has an o ring seal. I just replaced the seal, so we’ll see if that fixes my leak.

I want to say it did, but it’s been a while, so you may want to verify that it does.
@@CliffsHowTo it did 👍🏻

Is this 12513-P72-003 the plug that you used ?

I don’t know the part number. I just went to Honda and got it.

6:05 why do you have to remove the plug?
Because it was leaking
Cool except you forgot to put Honda bond gasket sealer on the block... very important!!,
How is that 2006 so clean... My 06, albeit an northeast Ohio car, looks like crap in comparison. 278k miles.
I would only use hondafit. But watch out as silicone can damage 02 sensors
No it can’t.
I’ve been a auto mechanic for 28 years and that is false.
how you break cam seal cap? mine came out with flat head lol. i did the cap 1st then took care of valve cover gasket. anyways good video.
Anyone have the part number for the cam seal?
12513-P72-003 (for a 2006 Civic EX anyway) Also called a "Cylinder Head Plug".
No need to put RTV (Silicone) on top of the O-Ring. Let the O-Ring do its job.
Honda tells you to put a dab of RTV where the timing chain cover meets the head.
@@dembrowi_n_c.5111 correct, but that is not what I was saying to do. O rings are not present where the timing cover meets the head.
@@_MarginOfError oh right, yeah thats silly.

Good luck! I didn’t have that many issues with this car.
