Dr. Novak, what is the story behind the making of this video? What is the primary reason for using the resin? Is it to satisfy preferences of the soft water fish (like discus)? Does the use of GFO allow for a stronger phosphate reduction than the use of a phosphate reducing pad?
I followed this recipe with the same products but made enough for my 75g.. should I see a difference in my ph and TDS from the resin? My tank and water are as balanced and clean as it always was but I thought the resin would have a measurable effect and it really didn’t. I’m on the gulf coast of FL with high ph and 250-300tds. Should I use more resin?
Dr. Novak I do not have the budget for an F zone cannister filter, I did biuld a plenum, but got cyanobacteria, only 30% of bio load capacity with black skirt tetras. I think part of the problem is light exposure bc the 55g is in my nook getting the sunset. But also the phosphate levels. If I put these chemipure substitute mix into a GFO/carbon reactor (I have heard that the mix in a reactor is more effective than in a bag in the hang on filter), how long will the mix last till I need to change it? Would you recommend placing a BCB into a reactor? The purpose of the tank is for breeding.
The only thing you do not want to do is overdo the resin beads. If you have very hard water, it will help make it softer. But how soft you want your water is strictly up to you. Only thing I can say is moderation in the very beginning, and as time goes on, you may want to tweak the formula to suit your particular needs.
I have never used chemi-pure or any similar products so please forgive the following question; when you show us a premade bag in the ziplock, why is it wet? Is that a necessary step in the preparation of this product, or is it for the purposes of storage? Thank you for your videos.
I like this video but have one question. Why didn't you put links to the products you talk about in the video? Nevertheless, I was able to find them all anyway.
In my opinion the reason might be that Dr Novak is not into making money via affiliate links so it will be unfair if he suggests a particular site . He is just sharing his passion with fellow hobbyist. These products can be easily found on the internet just like you did.
I am currently running my aquarium using carbon, fluval phosphate remover and the resin shown in this video. I will be switching over to this recipe once it is time to buy new supplies. I have been using this set up for about 5 to 6 months and have noticed my tds goes up about 10 ppm every single day. Weekly water changes do not reset the water to its base level and each week the tds is higher than the last. Is there a good way to bring the water level down to appropriate conditions without lowering the hardness and ph. The tds currently is at 568. The local water tds is typically between 250 and 300. I have tried doing 75% water changes with no success.
There could be something in your substrate or what you were using that is raising your TDS. You must do some investigation and find out what the culprit is.
Thanks for the advice

You're a Godsend Dr. Kevin Thank You so Much
thanks

Please help. I need a simple recipe for 60 gallon tank.

Hello, Do you know what aquarium treatments or meds can be used with the anoxic filter bcb without harming the beneficial bacteria?
You can use all that is available with very little harm.
I'm assuming you got the 1/4 cubic ft. resin bag and not the 1/2 cubic ft. resin?
Thanks again Doc.
Thank you
You're welcome

It's wet to clean out any dust particles in the bag from the carbon because most carbon is very dusty.
@@anoxicfiltrationplenums Thank you!

yeah my tap water is very hard and comes out with a ph of 9.6 yep...Fl let alone the huge amount of chloramines.
How long does this last between needing to be replaced
It will last as long as Chemi pure does and that's about three months
can this be tumbled in a reactor?
yes, because it has a tendency to clump and turn into a solid.
I use SeaChem Purigen. Is there a way to home make that??
Not that I know of.
