I agree 100% percent on extreme opportunities, I also believe that its up to you to make something with it in life, you can't always go back and say if it wasn't for this I wouldn't be successful, in reality once that door opens for you, you either make it happen or flop. Opportunity is golden, what you do with it is palladium!!

Thank you for this amazing summary!!!! You conceptualized so much valuable data, into simple phrases. Saving us time, while giving us more energy.

Although this book is technically correct it's also an easy excuse to fail which sadly people who don't want to take personal responsibility for anything and instead want something to blame for all their problems will happily throw money at.
Sure you might not be able to be the best at anything, and some people have more opportunity than others, but what you can do is work with what you have and make the best you can out of it. Also, you don't have to be "the best" to succeed, and the majority of people / products / businesses that did succeed did so because they solved a problem nobody was solving, created their own niche, and therefore became the best at their own niche that made them stand out.

It’s also a great excuse to work hard because it reveals the playing field is actually even unlike some would have you do believe. Hard and perseverance will get you where you want to be in life.

The book is just terrible. It makes the most obvious points ever like “people who grew up in different places act differently.” It is so extremely boring and nothing close to interesting happens. It is confusing and terrible worst book I’ve ever read

Just earned a sub. Great simplification of Malcom’s book Outliers. I found his books while I was let’s just say, away from home. Very much enjoyed.

10,000 hours is a myth. Quality of practice is more important. And the 10,000 hours of mastery for violinists only represented a portion of the elite violinists, not the entirety.

I think we agree! It’s all about the way of reasoning! It’s not wrong in the way he says it in the book. You can state that there are a lot of successful people with 10.000 hours of experience in their skills BUT you cannot guarantee that if you put in 10.000 hours, you’ll be successful!
That’s what I take out of it. Do you mean the same thing?

The claim about people being let into law school with overall lower scores and then after graduating, having the playing field leveled in terms of salary and performance was, um...wow. Is there evidence for this claim? Was there data gathered from law firms and client feedback from across the country regarding these graduates' performance and salary compared to those who were not given a break in law school admittance? Seems far-fetched at best. I hope the book can back up such claims, if asserted.

This knowledge is so common. Not sure why the writer invested so much of his time to find case studies to prove something that people already know. Or maybe this book would be for Gen X and earlier. Older generation might not have been aware about the same.
