      The metal band from Boston Sam black church the guy like he was like on the first guy to do that thing through the throat. I forget what they call it but it takes a long time to get your throat muscles feel to do it and then he really fucking good at it. I guess they're in the state's down in Miami cuz it said some things about the war and they were against it and it was shutting down all that shows so they came to America. Once they get on the metal going to the summer they're going to blow the fuk up. Guarantee it. Alex Terrible is the lead singer, if you go to that channel, he will have all his cover songs as well as slaughter to prevail stuff. The sia one is good, twenty one pilots, barbie girl, and livin la Vida loka. Baba yaga is fantastic , 1984 is their newest song, kind of a response to the attack on Ukraine. It's got this 2 step pantera, windmill kicking nuance feel to it lol. Yes maam, bratva and bonebreaker live are really great songs:)

  • @joachimmuller4930
    @joachimmuller4930 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    The non-English part in this song is written in Russian. Roughly translated, it basically says: "Everyone is gonna lose everything they love. Nothing is gonna remain. Since the day I was born, a fire is burning in my eyes. Death is gonna come for you all and wake you up."
    Edit: Yes, Alex is doing all of those lyrics without any filter or something like that. His voice is of course well mixed and amplified in the studio recordings, but the distortion and the notes themselves are directly coming out his throat.
    And since you asked, I'll do my very best to kinda explain the technique behind the rough singing in this song.
    Alex is using a mixture of two different styles of vocals here, the so called "fry scream" and the "false chord growling" technique.
    The harsh and distorted scream in the verses is mainly achieved by fry scream. The rough core of that technique consists in getting out a relatively small amount of air through your vocal chords while pressing them really tight together. It's kinda hard to describe, but it basically feels like this:
    You open your mouth like to a medium width. Now you try to hold your breath with your mouth still open. And then, while holding your breath, you exhale with like 80 - 90% of the pressure your lungs can produce. That is more or less how that sound comes together.
    The really low breakdown vocals (the part with the Russian lyrics) is achieved by using the false chord - technique. I would describe it as the exact opposite of the fry scream. you push out a huge amount of air through completely relaxed vocal chords. By doing so, the so called "false vocal chords" (basically a piece of skin covering the actual vocal chords) start to vibrate. This produces that characteristic guttural growling sound, comparable to a barking dog or a growling bear. The technique of throat singing also uses that false vocal cord vibration.
    While the fry scream is possible to hold for a long time without a pause, being relatively quiet (because you use very little air and you don't have to breath that often), the false chord growl is very loud. But in exchange for the higher volume, you can't hold it for so long, because more air is used in it. I have been practicing both techniques for like two or three years now. Comparing them, I would say that I can do the growling for like three or four seconds without breathing and the fry scream for ca. 17 seconds (for a high) up to 30 seconds (for a really quiet low).
    Ps: I am from Germany, so I guess I have to apologize, if there are any grammar mistakes XD.

    Great video! Seeing them live in April down in Florida, cannot wait!!!

  • @nightshade7240
    @nightshade7240 ปีที่แล้ว

    To make that sound it's about how you position your mouth over your throat and engage your false chords. He's performing an external guttural technique which means the quality of the sound is more important than the lyrics but you will also notice he eases up on the guttural and goes into what is essentially an enunciated growl when he wants the lyrics to be the prominent element.
    It's a voice effect when he does that but it's not a technological effect. It's called a double harmonic. It's like throat singing, you can layer two harmonic elements on each other. When we do throat singing we have the subharmonic and then a clean layer of enunciation. With overtone singing you have two vocal elements that depend on each other for the effect and then you have to generate the right amount of breath pressure to make sure you stabilise both elements. The double harmonic in metal vocals works on the same principles.

    Ha! I'm glad you noticed the lower part of the mask moves when he talks. That's one of my favorite things about those masks.
    Also, as someone who has done extreme vocals a lot and who has been in various bands/done various projects over the years, I can say this: screaming in such ways is mostly diaphragmatic and not using the vocal cords. It's pushing air out in a "belchy" way for lows, in a "scratchy" way for mids, or in a sort of a "screechy" way for highs. It isn't easy, but it also isn't as hard as you may think.

      Respect. I've been messing around with it for about 15 years, but never performing or in a band (I'm just a shitty guitarist). I can get the mouth/tongue placements perfectly, and can "whisper" crazy lows and highs like this, but can never get the projection. Sometimes I can, but it starts to hurt my throat and I have to stop. I know that means I'm doing it wrong, but when I get the projection I want, without the strain and pain, the diction and accuracy of the sounds goes to shit compared to when I do it quieter. This style of vocals is genuinely difficult and should be studied more in musical academia. I've never had a coach, but YEARS of car driving practice and mimicry. Still hard af.

Obviously it's not the same in terms of volume or resonance, but you can clearly and audibly catch it at the back of an appropriately sized venue. 6:08. It's a Russian language:
    У каждого отнимут всё, что он так любит
    Нет никаких разбитых судеб
    С рождения в глазах горит огонь
    Приходит смерть, она тебя разбудит
    oo kA-zhdo-va at-nEE-moot fsyo-shto on tak lYU-beet
    nyet nee-ka-kEEkh raz-bEE-tykh sOO-deb
    sra-zhdE-nee-ya vgla-zAkh ga-rEEt a-gon'
    pree-khO-deet smErt' ana tye-bya raz-bOO-deet
    Everyone will be robbed of everything that he loves so much
    There are no broken destinies
    From birth, fire burns in the eyes
    Death comes, it will wake you up

    Wow this isn't an entry-level for digging into metal lol ... I loved your reaction and (!!!!!) I love you jumped into the lyrics and meaning because many listen to this song and take it up as an extremely hard and agressive song and get shocked for a demonic breakdown and think of having to go to pray xD But well - this is so much different when you know what they are singing about and expressing with the music and vocal styles! WELLLLLL done - thank you! :D

    The mask thing also give you the feeling on not being you so you might not be as self conscious or whatever and you can let go on stage. Or that's how it would be for me. I always had sleight stage fright

    being mixed and brought up with polar opposite sides of family.. I always felt mad weird liking this music as a kid, now that i'm a lil older w more life experience I love watching people who truly love music react to things like this.. you can call it a lot, but if you're truly a fan of music one thing you can't call it is bad lmao.

    Slaughter to Prevail is amazing as a band and as human beings. They're Russian and when the war started they were very quick to denounce everything happening and stood with the Ukrainians.

    you're very resilient, you took StP to the face and you came out smiling. StP is a Russian band and they came to the US once Putin started attacking Ukraine. Alex Terrible is the vocalist and YES that's all him, he's a beast but he's a cool and funny guy too, check out his covers sometime.
