Fun fact: They didn’t actually use candy foam, the foam in this scene was foam from a fire extinguisher. Because of this, several of the actors got sick from the fumes, and they temporarily postponed the movie for weeks before resuming filming.

This is my favorite scene in the movie, but today I learned that in fact is not soda pop bubbles or soap; it’s fire extinguisher foam. All the actors had to take a few days off to recover from the skin irritation they suffered from the foam.

Ah, the magic of film editing... however they did it back then.
The bubbly foam was actually fire extinguisher foam. Not only was the stuff really cold, and everyone got soaked, but people ended up getting rashes on their skin due to the detergent and chemicals in the foam.

I feel like this machine was a test of some sort. Take a look of the different reactions on both parties. Mike and his mother are freaking out while Charlie and Grandpa Joe are having fun. Willy Wonka wanted to choose his successor and he most likely wanted someone who could enjoy any situation, no matter how random it was. Charlie was surprised when the bubbles began to spray, but he started throwing handfuls at Grandpa Joe and enjoying himself. Mike rejected the entire process. Kind of makes sense why Wonka seemed to lean towards choosing Charlie. Just my two cents.

@Greg Schultz If noticed at 0:31, Mike virtually eliminated himself with his intention of selling the gobstopper to Slugworth and telling him about the Wonkawash to bilk more money from him. Thus, breaking the promise Mike gave Wonka.

The Wonkamobile is clearly a machine built for the sole purpose of trolling the visitors, and it all boils down to that tuba thing on the front that hits the Teevees.
Even if we assume that it's serving a vital function, some sort of cream exhaust, it would be just as effective if it were turned around to shoot the cream in front of the vehicle. But instead, a device that was specifically meant to have cream come out of it was pointed directly at the seats. The boiler, I can believe just didn't know it's own strength, but that thing is so stupid it can only have been installed that way on purpose.
Also, why does it stop making a mess after coming out of the Wonka Wash? It traveled slightly more than it's own length, that should be good for one more explosion.

The bubbles didn’t come out of the car until it was close to top speed as Mr Wonka wanted to really open her up to see what it can do. The car began slowing to a stop once they were cleaned up vie Wonka Wash and it was possibly low on fuel at that point.
Dodo Denney (Mrs Teavee) is a wonderful comedic actress. She’s brilliant in every scene she’s in in this movie. Her facial expressions and reactions are hilarious. Especially in this scene and her final scene in the TV room when she feints and gets carried off by the Oompa Loompas.

This whole movie was a terror ride for me as a child but THIS SCENE was absolute nightmare fuel. I used to be terrified of car washes, foam and tubas after this.
Want to know something else? The foam is actually the same type you find in a Fire Extinguisher. The Actors had rashes on their skin, so production was put off so they could receive Medical Treatment and recover before filming could resume.

Fact: did you know the foam was actually fire exstinguisher so the actors had rashes and medical treatment for a few days before filming again.
Notice how there are only 2 seats on the wonkamobile wonka had already planned for 3 children to be gone and right after Augustus goes up the pipe they head on the boat the boat only has 4 seats again wonka had already planned for 1 child to be gone wonka had not only had a plan to not only leave the factory to someone else but to kill all five children leaving the factory to Charlie is actually bad the factory is a death trap wonka now will probably run away somewhere in his elevator so when Charlie's family sues he won't be around or like in the 2005 version of the movie and the book the kids don't die they just get sent to a room and then leave the factory but in the 1971 film they get sent to a room and never come back they could have came out of the factory though we just couldn't have seen it
And correct me if I'm wrong, but there's no yelling in the end of the 2005 version. (I've only seen that version once, and it was about the time it was first released.) I think that is more kid-friendly than the original, I'm pretty sure the 2005 version was rated G. The original was more of a horror movie, and probably should have been either PG13, or R rated, even if the movie was mainly about kids.
Norbert Buehmann yes Charlie does not get yelled at in the 2005 version but when Charlie gives the gobstopper to Willy wonka instead of slugworth wonka seems really nice in the 2005 version wonka is really nice but not as nice as Willy wonka in the original but that's right after he yelled at him and he could just be acting nice to trick Charlie
Fire Bros It can't be possible for the wonkamobile to have only two seats, since there are more than two riders. How else would Charlie, Grandpa Joe, Mike Teevee & Mrs. Teevee fit in the vehicle? Were some of the riders sitting on laps or something? :D

The foam in this scene
was actually made from Fire Extinguishers,
It actually irritated all of the actors and actresses skin,
and they had to receive medical treatment for a few days
due to puffed up skin and soreness.
Fun fact: The foam used in this scene was NOT the kind of bath soap that you use for taking a bubble bath, it was foam from fire extinguishers. After the scene was finished filming, the actors were left in discomfort puffed up itching and burning it took several days for the cast to return to normal
I question why they used that, and not what I thought they used. (either soap, or milk)
