A cheapo item that is good also is cheap solar path lights. Even the $5 ones from Wallyworld. You can solar charge during the day, pull off the stake, and put on the table for light at night. Most of them use AA solar batteries. You can buy extra batts, put them out during the day, pull the Batts at night. Do that for 2 or 3 days and you have fully charged AA Batts for other uses. Now you have recharge AA Batts without grid power.

A small point about drinking cold, or rather very chilled, water. It is better not to drink strongly chilled water for several reasons. The most important thing, however, is the body's reaction to such cold water. This then has to heat the water consumed as quickly as possible to bring it to 36°C (96.8°F), which corresponds to the body temperature of a healthy person. Warm water (drinks) are also much easier on the digestive tract than cold water. On the other hand, peoples in desert regions also use the opposite effect and drink hot drinks such as tea, as the body then automatically begins to lower the temperature inside the body again in order to return to normal levels. The other way around, very cold liquids have the opposite effect in summer. The body uses even more energy to increase the temperature, which is of course counterproductive. So in short, it would theoretically be best to consume liquids that approximately correspond to your body temperature. greetings from germany and sorry for my bad English. i hope anybody can understand what i want to say.
For at home daily use until power becomes a problem, a tabletop distiller is the best option, especially if you have lead acid batteries to maintain or use a CPAP or oxygen concentrator. If you are concerned that drinking demineralized water is unhealthy, remineralize it with a bit of table salt, baking soda, or your other favorite mineral mix. In many cases, removing the excess of minerals in water will likely be a health benefit.
Built a diy system with two 5 gallon food grade buckets and a ceramic filter. Under $100 and should clean a lot more water before needing new filter . Just didn’t want to depend on needing replacement filters in the apocalypse lol . But this is a cool set up too .
I've been using this system for months and love it! Cleaned the filter and reinstalled, still flowing just as well as it did brand new. Just ordered another filter for backup. :) I love that this retains the good minerals, very important health wise!
You probably just got so used to being sick that you don't even know you're sick right now as we speak. Personally I can drink twice as much water due to less bloating feeling from straight city water. Just my two cents or round it up or down here in Canada
Thats a great idea those fountain filters can do tens of thousands of gallons. City water is packed with chemicals quit drinking it. Your bunghole is probably already boiled.

Nice system. I always look at my pool for a SHTF scenario. Not to drink obviously. But the filter system to prefilter water. I never tried it but I think my pool would be good for personal hygiene also. It is pool season in Texas, I just watched my pool water turn from chunky green to clear blue with very little chlorine. I have an above the ground. The filter is one of those sand filters ( I use these things the size of golf balls that can be washed in your washing machine instead of sand ). I use very little chlorine, it is mostly washing the balls in the filter that does the work. A pool can be a great prepping tool in my opinion.
I have neighbors I don’t get along with. I also have a portable wild-fire hose pump system, I plan to use to take their pool water and put it in my water tanks. Yes, I know it’s kinda messed up, but it will make them go away.
@@chrismullin8304I have a similar situation with my neighbors up at the cottage. We have a drilled well with a solar pump so we don't need their water but they do have many other things we'll need once the shtf.

@Kevin-qo6jw unlike humans, animals are well adapted to drink dirty water. Some people even believe that they were baptized in it Ron Jeremy style. Just catching rainwater for them is more than good enough.
I ordered one from you a few weeks ago. The family loves it. Clean safe water is amazing. My only complaint is it does filter a little slow with the one filter insert.

@@TheGrimFoot actually, I was thinking about putting some water related things in a faradày cage. Ro filter with pump, power station and panels. But where I live (Thailand) I think emp risk is rather low
save 100+ dollars and just use two 5 gallon food grade buckets drill the holes for the filters in bottom of top bucket, and lid of 2nd bucket, drill hole near bottom side of bottom bucket to install a cheap spigot like 1 dollar maybe, and good to go. filters are already expensive enough lol not gonna pay 100+ dollars for glorified buckets just because they are metal, also filters more water with 5 gallon buckets :)
Nothing wrong with unfiltered wild water as long as it's clear and from a moving source. Even rainwater doesn't need to be filtered, as the rain cycle itself is a purification process! City water, on the other hand, or water from a stagnant source i would definitely want to filter and purify, but even when we relied on water from a dam, we never filtered and only boiled it during certain times despite constant warnings about 'beaver fever' and never had an issue ;)
@@bruceb5481 I doubt that the worms came from the water. What were you eating around that time? Were you rummaging in the soil with bare hands? I had pinworms as a child, and they apparently came from the soil, as most parasitic worms do. I highly doubt it was the water.

Great video Nate, the only thing I disagree with is using the plastic filter to "remove microplastics" I would rather stick to steel as much as possible.
I agree and have them in my get home bags. But I think that's where they shine. Emergency on the move. For home use, you'll need to purify water for cooking, cleaning, etc. Have more than one option.
I've been using a gravity filter for our drinking water from a rain water tank. Never had a problem. I've been using the Doulton (England) candles. But I would change to one that also does Flouride if I was on town water. The Brita style one looks good, that it excepts propper type candles.
if you leave it to depend on holding stock & reserves by "prepping" then when the shtf it is going to hold you back by limiting your ability to adapt & forage... you will dependent on your pantry..
I have a geo press and a big bag to do the gravity filter to prefilter it if all else fails. I have an RO system with a UV filter under my sink and a pump with RV filters to siphon off my pool outside. If I need more than that, I have a bigger problem than clean water.
@@franny5295 clean water is first priority and basing yourself around a body of freshwater is imperative.. especially for fishing to get through the winters until you can start planting crops.. being stationary in the beginning is going to prevent you from locating a long term spot when everyone else is already on the move.. also opens you up to being raided if you sit around.. even under law & order people are evil... imagine them without any law & order... anyway just some food for thought, whatever you choose to do it is the right decision for you... don't think I am criticizing.. just contemplating...

Never forget to wash your balls
😅 You may have to make them go away before they make
you go away
@@TonyMartin911
@@chrismullin8304I have a similar situation with my neighbors up at the cottage. We have a drilled well with a solar pump so we don't need their water but they do have many other things we'll need once the shtf.
Personally I would preboil then prefilter THEN use my obscenely expensive filters.
I agree, when my filters clog.... my bunghole boils
@@TheGrimFoot Clogged filters are like being constipated - doesn't want to allow anything out.... lol
@@crazysquirrel9425 dude it sucks, mh MSRs ar 45 dollars a piece
@@TheGrimFoot Already have an MSR pocket rocket. Never use it. Saving for a 'rainy day' as it were.
Spent a lot more than $45 for it too.
Unless you are referring to something else?
@@crazysquirrel9425 I'm referring to the replacement inserts for that unit. I have several different brands, and they're all expensive.
Been using propur for years.. glad your supporting them
I have been using Zero Water for years now, it works just as well, and filters out fluoride.
There’s a big difference between filtered and purified water
I'll drink filtered purified water all day 😂
Filtered involves removing sediment and purifying would involve removing parasites, toxic minerals and such
My " filters" reduce to 3 micron. It's basically a purifier. As long as you have something though you're better off. Nonpreppers though? Psh their bungholes are boiled.
@@CSwivel can you drink rain water without adding calsium etc to it?
@Kevin-qo6jw unlike humans, animals are well adapted to drink dirty water. Some people even believe that they were baptized in it Ron Jeremy style. Just catching rainwater for them is more than good enough.
I ordered one from you a few weeks ago. The family loves it. Clean safe water is amazing. My only complaint is it does filter a little slow with the one filter insert.
We have good well water, deep spring water (just bought 40 gallons home) AND if needed a Katdyn Expedition stainless filter. Its top of the line, mobile and fast. Ceramic filter, cleanable, and spares ($400 for spare ceramic). Dont think gravity is bad, just doesnt suit our needs
And I thought my demise in grid down would be from lack of toilet paper.
good ol gear review vids. love seeing the old canadian prep in action
Thanks for this video Nate I got enough meds and food for five years in my bunker but seeing this video reminds me that I only got one built in filter in my bunker
Hell yah, perfect timing on what for the video. I was just looking at gravity water filtration systems today. This is super helpful as I was trying to look at each brand's certifications and 3rd party test results.
We got a berky
Berky filter have trace of silver!!!
I did it Nate! Ordered the Big One! Thanks!
Thanks Nate now the secrets out! I better stock up before the mad rush
Considering a second solar powered well, already have 1 reverse osmosis filter. So there it should get a backup as well. Finally, next week getting my second solar system with 17.5 kwh battery
Today picking up the inverter. Around 8kw. And ordering the 13 panels each 550w. In 2 weeks will receive the battery
Get some manual systems too in case of a solar flare, or emp. If not.... your bunghole is boiled.
Man use a fake name in your title
@@marykrenek512 what is wrong with the title title
YUUUP,good cheap system.
What sort of filter do you use in this system?
I have these/that on standby. More cost effective and like you said it’s way cheaper and holds more water in 5 gal bucket. 👍💯

The big stainless steel makes sense. No micro plastic particles.
Except the ones in the plastic filters
@@80srenaissance67 Thank you for reminding me my nightmare never ends.
Berky filters have silver and is good for you like colidel silver
Nothing wrong with unfiltered wild water as long as it's clear and from a moving source. Even rainwater doesn't need to be filtered, as the rain cycle itself is a purification process! City water, on the other hand, or water from a stagnant source i would definitely want to filter and purify, but even when we relied on water from a dam, we never filtered and only boiled it during certain times despite constant warnings about 'beaver fever' and never had an issue ;)
As a backpacker in the adk. mountains, I drank from streams for 25 years until I got a case of worms. 😢😢😢
@@bruceb5481 I doubt that the worms came from the water. What were you eating around that time? Were you rummaging in the soil with bare hands? I had pinworms as a child, and they apparently came from the soil, as most parasitic worms do. I highly doubt it was the water.
This remember the “filtros de barro” (clay filters) that we use to have in my childhood. Still exist today. :) 3:44
Its one of mysystem ,this two 3 gal or five gal 2 bucket multi filter system. Top rough large bits filter and supply reservoir and bottom use tank with spout and fine filter. Too bucket have this filter. Have 3 gal natural set already. Top got but g bit filter. Middle is natural filter bottom like before.
Bought this from you
Setting it up Saturday morning 🎉
Your best video yet! Very informative for everyone. Everyone should be filtering their water. Soooo many chemicals in the water.
Having a Ro system that I built for Maple syrup season will come in handy as it adds to my preps. Thankfully It can run on my solar setup...
Thanks Nate, i was looking at this system as a possible one for my family.
Great video Nate, the only thing I disagree with is using the plastic filter to "remove microplastics" I would rather stick to steel as much as possible.
Canadian prepper LifeStraw products are very good and they're cost-effective
Only against virus.
I agree and have them in my get home bags. But I think that's where they shine. Emergency on the move. For home use, you'll need to purify water for cooking, cleaning, etc. Have more than one option.
Thanks Nate!!! Just bought a few filters- I’ve been looking for awhile!! Take care of yourself

There are some useful small, portable systems available aswell. Don't forget about logistics* either. (gathering, transport, storage..) and a possibility to get the stuff boiling once anyways.
Requires some pot, solid enough to stand open fire.
Brigadier general Holt was on Inspired. Everyone should hear him as what he thinks is coming.
For pre filtering water!
A rugged coffee filter ( Those paper ones)
I hear that in North America is called, making coffee the Dutch way!
Me thinking, when i put active carbon/ charcoal in it it would not prefiltering any more!
More a 2 trap filter!
Cheap active coal i get in a big home pond / tropical fish tank shop!
Maybe a DIY filter, for when running low on filter cartridges, our being ' comprimized'!
Awesome video sir..... Good ol CP style.... Not saying I don't appreciate all the hard work u put in with the WWIII news but
BRAVO ! I just bought one - thank you
Thanks Nate, I'll ck um out. I have plenty fresh water around me as well as filters but as a prepper 3 is 2, 2 is 1, 1 is none, nothing wrong with plenty of redundancy. There's gonna be akit of people that's gonna need help when shtf
I've been using the same water distiller for the last six years, heavily, and I had to majorly modify because it's been so heavily used that certain components started rusting and degrading, where I had to replace it with copper pieces and rub it with ox gard to stop or slow down the rusting
Thank you for your efforts, Nate.

Injuries, pathogens and starvation is probably what’s going to kill most people during SHTF even though populated areas most people will be killing, robbing and stealing from each other, revenge etc. so people, pathogens, injuries and starvation is what kills most people during SHTF grid down because 99% of everyone depends on the grid for survival and have no survival skills. Heat in winter time and cooking everyone with a brain will use firewood for heating and cooking. People that has the highest chance of surviving SHTF grid down are intelligent people that lives in the country far away from populated areas and that has gardens and livestock which is not that many people
