Great work. The images are superb. I'm surprised you can get such good results with all that bright, ambient light around in the kitchen. I notice other folks doing high speed flash photography in really dim conditions or sometimes in complete darkness with time exposures. By the way, Ive got a Yongnuo 560III speedlight and 560TX I bought from eBay but for some reason, I can't get them to work with my Panasonic M4/3 cameras. I hope I can get that sorted soon. Looking forward to trying some high speed photography myself when I get everything up and running.
The ambient light you reduce it by choosing a fast shutter speed and a high aperture and low ISO. Try 1/160 f5.6, f7.1 or f8.0 and the ISO Match it with your shutter speed. For instance if your shutter speed is 1/160 then your ISO will be 160. Let me know when you get your photos up! Good luck and keep shooting !👍🏼👍🏼📷
you don't need a stand you could find something where to place the flash anything could work. When you buy the flash it should bring the little stand which hooks to the stand.
just an awesome and well explained video.Images are top notch. I have Nikon D3300 camera with 18-55 nikkor lense..and 70-300 mm telephoto lens..which one would suit better..and is using a flash mandatory??
Hey thank you so much for your kind words! I think that it all depends where are you shooting. If you are shooting in a tight space, you might want to go with the 18-55 and frame your shot at the best focal length. If you have a bigger room you can use the 70-300 and you might want to keep it at 70mm. Always try to frame your subject (balloon) and leave some room on the edges to show the splash, otherwise you will miss all that detail. I believe I was using a 50mm there and look how close i was. Also you want to keep some distance so you don't wet your camera.
perfect video man. you should have way more than 80 views. you did a good job at explaining everything. I never thought about using baloons. I did some awesome freezing motion with my son. I had him use the bottom of a turkey baser and blow water out. there was over a 1000 droplets and each one showed his face in it.
Thanks man I really appreciate that. I will be making a new video showing some new stuff soon. You should try the balloons it's a cool shoot. When you do it share your images 👍🏼. Thanks again man!
How did u manage to overcome the flare caused by the flash gun without covering the flash from both sides..without the covered sides I m sure that u would get flares
yaaa....but i used to get flares when i did smoke photography... i used to cover the sides of the flash gun with black sheets to direct the light on a certain place to avoid the flares...
Mauricio Merino Photography but i saw u maintain the position by using a tripod. because I afraid that when I'm using autofocus, my camera will keep focusing after i popped the balloon hahaha xD
yes a tripod is vital so your camera won't move. But now that i remember what i did was that i autofocus on my subject then i moved the knob to manual focus so it wouldn't keep auto focusing on other things and stay focused.
Syahirah Choky Hello thanks for Watching the video. This is High speed photography. You freeze things that are happening really fast. Panning is another technique. Panning is the technique used for race cars for example. You freeze the race car but you blur everything showing how fast the car is going. I will do a tutorial on that soon so you can see.
It looks like it takes some skill to get the timing right. You seem to have that down well. For my water balloon pictures I used the Panasonic LX100 which has "4k photo mode". It takes 30 pictures per second and you just pick the ones you want. I did my first ones out side in direct sun light with the aperture at F2.8 , ISO 400 and shutter speed of 1/10000 sec. That might have been a little faster than I really needed but I'm new to this. I like the idea of using side illumination. I think I will try that next time.
Thanks man. Yeah this high speed photography shots are recommended to do it with a flash, strobe, or a continuous light. The reason is because things are happening so fast that you need the light to freeze the action. And of course the shutter at a high speed. Take some shots and let me see what you get.
sanjayshal sanjay either Nikon or Canon are great! I'm a canon shooter. I find it more user friendly than Nikon. But I'll recommend you do some research and compare the two models you want to get before you do. That's what I did when I bought my camera. If you have the cash, get a full frame camera. If not then just stick with a crop sensor camera. Once you have your camera, invest in good lenses.
I tried today. But it came complete dark. I do t have strobe. Just I kept a table lamp 40w and a ulangi RGB lamp at 6000k and checked the meter it was showing-5. Not changing. I kept f8, iso 160, shutter 250 as you did. But no use complete dark. I reduced the f upto 2.8 it can to 3.3. Not less then I bump up the iso to 640. Still did not work. What should I do. For this single shoot I don’t want to buy a flash or external light. I used Fuji XT4. How I can rise the light and meter? Shall I do it near the window tomorrow? Please advise
Make sure you have a black background and just expose your shot correctly. Put your camera on live view this way you can see when is exposed correctly. Mess around with the f stop and iso. The shutter should be 160 or higher to freeze the action. If you had a flash, it would be easier to freeze “capture” the high speed of the balloon popping. But you can manage to get it with just the lamp.
@@MauricioMerinoPhotography87 thank you. There was already black cloth. Today I shall adjust with iso and f stop and try again. Can I do this near the window light? Along with lamp?
Optikification I made this video for amateur photographers or hobby photographers. Usually this people don’t have that kind of equipment. Also I wanted to show that you can accomplish a lot on a budget. 😉
JT Media Studios yes! The first time I tried this shoot I did it with a lamp from my living room and the photos came out good. I recommend the flash because it helps to freeze the action better than a continuous light in my opinion.
poikatiikeri in the video I show my camera settings. They are 1/250 F8.0 ISO 100 the fast shutter speed and the low ISO takes care of eliminating the ambient light and freezes every detail. The F stop brings out all the details of the water.
Asad Rehmanuddin hey I'm glad you like it. Just leave a comment with the link where you will have your photos and I'll check them out !! I would love to see them! Keep shooting brotha
I think the hand in the frame is distracting. The water drops don't look sharp since you are using f/8. A studio flash like the Einstein would help you achieve higher speeds. It's a good example on how to do this at home, however for more professional and commercial results you can combine multiple exposures in photoshop. The way I do it so I dont have to "sync" the camera with the popping is to take various frames per second (3 to 6 per second). That way you would capture the whole sequence. A long needle could help you achieve it without showing your hand. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the advise I'll take that into consideration but I like the hand in the frame. To me it gives the impression that I'm popping the balloon instead of just with a long needle It will seem that it just pops by ... No one, by the art of magic. But I guess that everyone is different. And yea my videos are targeting the starting photographers and how to do creative things at home with a low budget. But thanks again to take time to watch and give your input I appreciate that.
+Mauricio Merino Photography I think you could even have shot the photos with burst mode But still nice pics and even nice video great job!! I really enjoyed it
+RogerWsVideo They Look great! well done. What i suggest is that you use a black background. It makes it look more dramatic and looks better in my opinion. But they look awesome dude
Dade Freeman Dade Freeman the whole idea is to help people create photos the simplest way with whatever they have. I don't think everyone has a trigger trap.
I'd really reccomend thinking more about what you're gonna say on camera my friend. Serious pausing all the time, not knowing what to say next etc etc. Great video and great setup but the excecution left a lot to be desired.
Thank you for this very useful tutorial video. I want to try this. 👍😎
Great idea. However, have thought of using a small wire with the pin on the end so your hand would be out of the picture? Just a thought.
Very Informative dear 👍
rajan love thank you

No problem, I'm glad it was helpful! and I'm glad you got some great shots!! Keep shooting 📷📷

you don't need a stand you could find something where to place the flash anything could work. When you buy the flash it should bring the little stand which hooks to the stand.
Great share
Can we try it in outdoor?
amazing video my friend
anuprash gupta thank you ver y much!! Let me know how can I help with more videos. Let me know your questions and I'll work on a video for them.
Awesome video...everything seems so simple with u..keep it up coz it helps a lot...
Thank you so much
i dont know if you mentioned it in the video but what kind of trigger are you using, great video
nice video....will definitely try this

Did you use a macro lens ?
No macro

What was the speed of the flash
How did u manage to overcome the flare caused by the flash gun without covering the flash from both sides..without the covered sides I m sure that u would get flares
Yadav krishna gogoi don't point the flash directly towards your camera
yaaa....but i used to get flares when i did smoke photography... i used to cover the sides of the flash gun with black sheets to direct the light on a certain place to avoid the flares...
Yadav krishna gogoi I didn't get flares in the position I had it, which it was at a 120 • angle from the balloon.
so excited to try this!
Which settings you used
Awesome video. I'm going to try what you thought you did :)
Awesome glad this video helped. Sorry for the late response I haven't been on youtube for a while.
nice vedio....what flash should i use...TTL or manual?
sahil shakya what I I like to use is manual. That way I have full control and you can manipulate light how you want 😉
okey.... can you name some flash? 😊 and thanks for replying maan
sahil shakya the one I used here is the yongnuo 565 ex. They are an imitation of the canon flashes. Way cheaper though and they do the job.
thanks maaan.... thanks a lot 😊😊😊
Erm... sorry may i know, shall i use manual focus or auto focus for this kind of shot? Thank you :)
i used autofocus. Its easier when you are by yourself. Manual focus will impossible unless you have a second person popping the balloon.
Mauricio Merino Photography but i saw u maintain the position by using a tripod. because I afraid that when I'm using autofocus, my camera will keep focusing after i popped the balloon hahaha xD

no problem, let me know how it goes! have a great shoot!
sorry, i have question..what technique you had use in this photo? do this technique include on panning technique category?

Hi Mauricio Merino Photography thankyou for great answer..i will see ur vdeo later..
Hi Mauricio, it can do with mirrorless too?
Yogi cyber painting yes
Shutter speed values?
Its on the video i show the back of my camera. Sorry for the late response I haven't been on youtube for a while.
is using an external flash compulsary or we can try without that also?
Sheela Akshay you can also use a lamp or led light

What kind of Cannon camera are you using? Do you think a Cannon 80D can do this same thing?
Mrs. Rosebud any dslr will do it 👍🏼
Mauricio Merino thanks for your reply! I can’t stop watching this video. Your pictures came out amazing! Definitely subscribing!
Mrs. Rosebud thank you I appreciate that.
bro whether Nikon DSLR camera is best or else cannon DSLR camera ?? can u suggest me !!? which one is good

which lens did you use sir ?
Dhanapal K for this shoot I had a 50mm f/1.8
I think u can use continues burst shoots, instead of clicking and breaking the balloon simultaneously
Vijay Balasubramaniam yea but I don't have it. This way it's a homemade solution to achieve the same shots without it
which cam
Mayur Bhanage canon 5d mk iii
great video!
Andre Leander thank you
Great video ! Can you show a tutorial on how to edit photos, like which softwares n how to use them easily as you do?
why single shot instead of burst mode? and these days in 2018 use a pluto trigger
Optikification I made this video for amateur photographers or hobby photographers. Usually this people don’t have that kind of equipment. Also I wanted to show that you can accomplish a lot on a budget. 😉
Can I used LED lights instead the flash?
JT Media Studios yes! The first time I tried this shoot I did it with a lamp from my living room and the photos came out good. I recommend the flash because it helps to freeze the action better than a continuous light in my opinion.
Mauricio Merino Photography thanks!!
Mauricio Merino Photography I'll try and then send you the results to see what you think.
JT Media Studios yeah let me see your results 👍🏼
Which Camara you haveing sir
Rameshwar Biradar i believed I used my canon 5d mk ii in this video
Bro which camera did use there
Mohd Apsar I believe I was using my canon 7d markii

Malai Chini they are at 4:14 min of the video
Thanks I got it
Mine doesn't seem to be working.... my balloon is not popping. It's just leaking out lol what do you think I'm doing wrong?
George Dywili that's weird it should pop. Try with a different needle
I think it's the balloons. I'm going to buy different types of balloons and check what happens.
nice work
Thank you
great idea i love it..
Thak You, I was so worry to how to capture a water baloon shoot. Thank You so much 😆
Sushovan Basu no problem, any questions let me know. I'm glad I was any help
Great vid. Only recommendation is to use manual focus. Your photos turned out great except your hand was in focus not the water.
amazing bri
You written bri instead of bro I guess.

A dark room and TriggerTrap. Why make a simple technique complicated?
