for me, I always look at clothing that I haven’t worn like at all, and I put them in a separate part of my dresser. That way, I won’t feel like I messed up with anything since I wouldn’t have worn it anyways. Doing a closet purge and seeing what you haven’t worn in ages really helps get an idea of what you can diy.
Alright, I'm itching to say this.. None of those are corsets.. they're *bodices*, and I can confirm by literally watching Micarah Tewers' videos, and I know the basics of sewing. Anyways that's besides the point, a corset is fitted to your *own* body and is synched from the behind, it's supposed to act as a support for your chest and back. Any of the bs you see about people breaking their ribs is because of *misuse* of said corset and male propaganda from back in the day. (Corsets used to be worn by men before it was considered to be made for women) You really shouldn't be wearing them for performance in any kind of *high-labor acting/choreography or bending over of any sorts*, as it could injure you and your back. Plus, it can make it hard for you to breathe if it's synched in too tight, and usually that's how the tragedies happen. Not only that, but I think it's safe to say costume designers for popular movies/shows typically have "aesthetic" more in their mind than "function", (unlike ballets which is high-performing choreography) this is kinda true for a lot of people even on RuPaul's and whatnot. (Unless they have very good sewing experience, but most performers don't necessarily) The corset needs time, shaping, fitting, etc, to make sure that it *perfectly* suits you. The boning in those bodices still doesn't make it count as a corset. People use boning for bodices to help them achieve a flattery structure and the like. This is why corsets are more commonly made amongst professional tailors, as they've been doing their job for a very long time. TLDR: Those aren't corsets, it's just a bodice. This is pretty common stuff, and if you don't believe me, watch videos or Micarah Tewers for more info!
Another great TH-camr who i recommend is Karolina zerbroska( sorry if I spelt her name wrong) she talks a lot about corsets and the misconceptions of corsets, stays, and bodices.
aaah so many of these are so good! 7:00 and the one where the person turned the shirt from her relative into a pretty crop top are such a difference :o
@@berriee7848 they mean that the "corsets" people are calling corsets aren't real corsets. Theyre more like belts or cinchers and don't affect your waist size like real corsets do.
I honestly hate when thin people buy larger sizes just to cut them up to make two pieces or tote bags like I know you need more fabric to make certain items but like there are people out there who actually need clothes in those sizes. And as a plus size person who tries to thrift and be more sustainable it is really frustrating to see these larger garments be cut up.

Agree about it in English.
However we don't have another word for that kind of top in my language, so we use corset because it's similar enough.
Corsets and historical fashion actually a pretty cool topic to learn about, especially since a lot of the time people get everything about it wrong
