I moved from California to London, and some of your takes on moving from NYC to Paris are so similar to how I feel about living in London. There are so many positives about being here but theres also so many surprising little culture shocks!
I live in Madrid and people here say the same thing about the locals not being open to foreign friends... I think a lot of it is really the language/cultural barriers more than anything, and the transient nature of being an "expat." For people who speak the language fluently at work at a job with locals, it isn't much of a problem (after time) Also it's a pretty limiting/self-fulfilling belief, that will become true, if you believe it to be
It is understandable. If your second or third language is English it's not something you might be comfortable or like to speak when you are out of work and want to relax with your friends. One will likely always be in her own expat bubble if you don't speak the local language. Sounds extremely natural to me.
Elena, your videography skills really capture the feeling of travelling alone and enjoying moments with others as well as being in a different city - I love it!
I'm so excited when get notification you have pure and innocent beauty with heaven smile never give up uploading new videos Elena occupies a unique space Cute enough, sharp enough, and she displays that mystic uncertainty that resides somewhere within us all
Take all the breaks you need but I love this content! I don’t think it’s boring at all, this is very insightful for what to expect when traveling solo. I’m going to be solo traveling for a year or so, and I typically see people abroad with their best friend or a group of friends. I also deal with social anxiety when alone so thank you for sharing your experience because it is very comforting! You’re an inspiration, well wishes xoxo
Living abroad made me appreciate more the American willingness to be open. Everyone chats to you alllll the time. And I'm someone that's generally introverted but I'm realizing that being randomly spoken to was something I took for granted like, I actually like that now haha
Hmm, I get randomly spoken to allll the time, when I have social anxiety haha I’m not sure why I’m so approachable. Even with sunglasses and face mask on, people still talk to me. I wonder what it would feel like to not be approached often
Hey! As someone who's been living in Paris for 6 years now, and have lived in Denmark for 5 years prior I have some notes to compare: 1. Hearing that you spend about 30% less in Paris than in NY is insane! I've never been to NY, but I traveled a bit around Europe, and Paris is consistently the more expensive choice. Hearing about a place that makes Paris sound cheap is mental! 2. About parisians not wanting to add people to their group of friends, I think it comes down to the people, but it's much better than it was in Denmark, and the rest of France is better still. Also, there's a pretty big expat community, but when you've just come to Paris it kinda hiding in plain sight. There's a bunch of expat bars dotted around the city, and also loads of English-speaking stand-up events where a lot of expats congregate. 3. As for the parks, definitely also try Parc Montsouris, Buttes Chaumont, Jardin de Luxembourg, Jardin de Plantes, and get a row boat in Bois de Vincennes! Outside Paris but still accessible by train are also Versailles, Parc de Sceaux, and Vallee aux Loups. For a day trip in nature I also recommend Fontainebleau. Have fun in Paris!
I'm French and I've been living in Paris for 10 years now... Paris is definitely more expensive than the rest of the country, but compared to certain Scandinavian cities, London and other parts of the UK, I feel like it can be considered slightly cheaper (but the prices are definitely going up and catching up on other big international cities)
re paris vs nyc prices - americans make WAY more money than western europeans so that’s why generally the cost of living is higher in big us cities vs big euro cities
Hi Elena. What you experience with French people who don't feel the need to expand their circle, I can tell you that I and my children experienced the same in the United States where we lived for ten years. My eldest son came back to France in 2022 because he felt so alone and was able to make new friends in Paris within one year because he was working in a place where a lot of young people work (a library). I guess it's not your case (I guess you are working for yourself) so maybe a way to make friends is to find a hobby or to go regularly to the same places. Paris is full of expats too so it's definitely not the issue. I lived in Paris for 20 years and it was definitely easier to make friends in Paris that in my native Brittany.
Interesting to hear your observations on French versus American NYC mindset on how they wish to live their life, definition of ‘enough’ and some of the things you alluded… :)
Just subscribed! This is a great channel from what I’ve seen already. You handle yourself with great class and respect for the people you meet, while providing great information on the places you travel to! ❤
The feeling of enoughness is something I've been struggling with lately, and I'm realizing that this is definitely an American problem. It's been socially ingrained in us to keep wanting more, better, faster... even if it will only add incremental value to our lives. Europeans seem to have a much better relationship with contentment.
I really dig your black, white and gray aesthetic in your space. I'm glad you're thriving in your new city. If you're not busy on another job, I hope you can get into the tents when Paris fashion week happens again. I would love to her your impressions of the experience and the people you met. What ever happened to that gorgeous French young man who took you on his family boat? If he didn't turn out to be a complete A-hole, I hope you can continue to cultivate a friendship with him. Gorgeous men tend to have other gorgeous friends ❤️ 😅.
I have to get back to Paris soon! (After the Olympics lol) Re: hair breakage, do you take collagen? I’ve been using it for years and my hair and nails are super strong 💪 Gotta be consistent though! I add the powder to my coffee in the morning.
Did you ever explain how you came to leave NY and move to Paris? Was it work or personal? And how did you get an apartment in Paris so easily? I hear it's very hard, takes a long time, especially for Americans.
I’m currently reading Tim Marshall’s, The prisoners of geography. You’re right. So far it’s a great book. Another great book; The Way W Never Were by Stephanie Coontz.
this is so crazy, you know when you see someone so beautiful, and you can feel your heart strings getting tugged, and everything around you vaporizes into the emotional explosive rush occuring in the heart... with how the person casually looking away unknowing of what they just did to the observer... a feeling akin to something paranormal and an unusual occurrence for the heart to react that way. It's more than beauty ... its moment of deep pontificating. how can nature possibly wield such transcendental creative ability to create this person. I love talking to beautiful people, their lives are the funniest and the ridiculousness of their existence always yields to outlandish experiences and people acting so strangely in their presence. Life is comedy.
oh Paris looks so beautiful! when should you definitely visit there? Spring or autumn? 🤔 Girls, I'm also new to TH-cam and would appreciate any support❤️
You can try to stabilize some of your shacky shots in your editing software. It will be more comfortable to the viewers (and you, when you are rewatching your videos). This is just my opinion, which can be different from yours, which is fine.
Elena, i really enjoy your content and always look forward to a new video of yours. and i understand you may be conractually obligated to continue the betterhelp sponsorship for a while -- however, they have been caught selling patient information & pairing LGBTQ+ people with homophobic/transphobic therapists and so forth. most importantly, the company is partly owned by a zionist israeli and it's directly supporting the IOF and the illegal occupation in palestine. i hope you take this into account and end your sponsorship with them.
Paris is different than most people expect which can lead to disappointments. Instagram Paris isn't real. You just need to let go and appreciate the city for what it is. Not perfect.

Beautiful footage, as always. Re hair breakage - check your iron, zinc and Vitamin D levels - they're often low and cause a range of issues.

Why is no one talking about the carrots just placed on the ground 😳 and the rest of the food was also touching the surface
I have been living in France for 8 years and I think that point number 2 is completely accurate (comparatively speaking).
