This song is brilliant. It starts off as heroic, confident, and a third adjective I cant think up of. Like, wow it's THE Sherlock Holmes. Then by Case 4, it's just the "Holmes is back on his bullshit" theme.

his theme is so good but it also plays in the stupidest moments, like when he's like "IT MUST BE A CHICKEN!". god i love him so much.

My favourite one is when they are on the ship and he is like "Or maybe the steam engine exploded" and Naruhodo is like "if that had happened, we were all be dead by now"
played this for a friend who hasn't played the game and she described the piece as "written to be sophisticated, but the violinist is a little silly" and thats exactly sholmes's vibe for most of the game

For as disturbing as Sherlock Holmes' character is in Doyle's short stories, it was rather interesting and meticulous (more so in relation to his affinity for Watson). It's intriguing how this game goes about characterising him; it's a good thing he retains most things that made the original Holmes so charismatic.

Let me tell you, after beating both games, I can honestly say that Sholmes is easily one of the greatest characters ever. He starts off as a comic relief, but as the games go on, you start to see he's so much more than that. He's not just a great detective, he's a great person.
Absolutely, just finished GAA 2 (his final deduction music holy shit...) To me, he's the best Ace Attorney character. Easily the most hilarious (followed by Blackquill) with so many shenanigans and he completely killed it as a detective during the GAA 2's main plot.
The only thing that I disliked about his character is that (spoilers):
Because of the gameplay mechanic where he's forced to get the deductions wrong for Ryunosuke to learn, some people thought he was actually dumb and didn't realize that he was faking it to help Ryunosuke to learn/improve.

Personally that turned me off to play for a while after Chapter 2. The gameplay forces it to happen but I wish they had a better/different delivery for the deductions that didn't involve his character to be out of place.

The gameplay choice is probably controversial among some fans for that reason, as well as because it feels a bit forced throughout game 1. In my opinion, it feels a bit too intrusive in game 1. But in game 2, the Dance of Deduction sections are legitimately fun and add clever, memorable moments to the story too. So I guess you could say that it simply improved, as almost everything got better between Adventures and Resolve.
For the record, I'm not a fan of the speckled band case in Adventures, either, although for slightly different reasons. But I can understand that it might turn off people for the reason you mentioned as well.
@@l.n.3372 Yeah. He was definetely faking it most of the time. Although I'm pretty sure he was actually serious about the snake, considering he was genuinely shocked that they can't hear sounds nor can climb a rope. He seemed honestly annoyed at that little development.

I like how the song feels almost like a call and response between the accordion and the violin, which makes perfect sense when these sequences are essentially Herlock calling assumptions and Ryunosuke responding with informed alterations to his hypothesis

Can I be perfectly honest? This theme fits the REAL Sherlock Holmes (the one by Arthur Conan Doyle) perfectly. Whenever I read the books, and Holmes makes a deduction, this theme plays in my head.
One of my favorite feelings is the "here we go again" feeling when Sholmes pops out of thin air, says the most batshit insane thing ever heard, and this starts playing

I feel like this works better *because* he's named "Herlock Sholmes"; the character feels like an affectionate parody of Sherlock Holmes, rather than a bastardization of the real deal.
Which, I might add, is PRECISELY what Maurice LeBlanc intended when he created Sholmes.
It's also a historical middle finger to the Conan Doyle Estate, of which Sholmes would be proud.

I actually went to London at the start of April this year with a few of my friends. Myself and one of them went to 221B Baker Street and it was really great! However, I only really know most of the references because of Ace Attorney, so I imagine when most of the other tourists were going round and thinking which book the museum was referencing, I was like "that's from case so and so", or "that's when Herlock or Iris said this." Still, would recommend to any other people who are considering going! :)
PS I even got a Herlock and Iris t shirt and made my friend take some pictures of me wearing it outside the entrance. A bit odd, probably, but it was really fun too :)
Personal headcanon: the only reason Sholmes's Great Deductions are always so absurd and wide of the mark is because he spends both games secretly putting almost all of his mental focus on the overarching plot instead. Which is also why he was able to be the man of the hour in the end by always somehow being one step ahead.
I'm still going through the first game, but I can't help but notice that in both Cases 2 and 4...
both of his deductions involve him confronting the actual guilty party about their involvement in whatever crime the case is about.

Herlock tells Mikotoba: "no games now!" He's playing for real that time. Which is why he doesn't need help. Mikotoba is actually catching up to Herlock, who already figured it out once he saw the clues in the first class passage room.
Really? I agree that he’s truly brilliant and the deductions being wrong isn’t because he doesn’t know any better, but I always got the impression that he was doing it on purpose just to fuck with people ‘cause he’s bored.
@@4amlibra I've always thought that there was an element of screwing with Naruhodo and Susato but also it's just that he can't be bothered to explain so instead he just makes the wrong deduction in such a way that it points them right at the real clues

I love how much Sholmes is such a dumbass so far. :3 There's also the implication that he knows more than he lets on though, so I think that's also a nice touch. Also, because bro and I are probably blind as bats and can't see smoke coming out of Herlock's pipe, headcanon, it's a prop to make him look cool. XD
Tbh it's rare that characters in the AA franchise are allowed to smoke. But it's equally hard to dispute the pipe being real or not. So, I'd say that it could be a prop to, as you say, make him look extra cool. Or maybe it's real after all, given that the actual character did smoke the pipe.

At first I thought he was going to be annoying ,but as I progressed through the story I started realizing he is smarter than he lets on and HELL he turned out to be A LEGEND especially with the last move in the final case !

I love how there are segments where the percussion ends with a little bell. It makes it sound like a typewriter, showing how Iris chronologues all of Herlock's adventures!
(And yes, the fact that Iris is such an important part of Herlock's life that she's in his theme song is going to make me cry.)

Hm, on second thought...that percussion also sounds an awful lot like the Mikotoba Step...which would actually make a lot of sense with this interpretation!

As a long term fan of the original Sherlock Holmes from the books, I can tell you that yes, this theme suits him quite well.

I absolutely adore Sholmes. I love how much I become even more interested when I see him doing these insane things like sneaking by a landlord and looking out a window, hanging from a wall or whatever he may be doing and saying. I sit in disbelief constantly at Herlock Sholmes. One of my favorite characters in Ace Attorney ever (and I’m only on case 4 of GAA. So much more to come I’m sure)

0:48 this part always caught me. it's pretty cool. when it sounds i have the need to listen carefully what Sholmes have to explain to me. and sounds a little bit like a tense version of Objection! 2001 for some reason.
I have mastered Ultra Instinct by watching every video in 2x to save time. It took me a while to get used to the speed of text in Ace Attorney (Slyzer's playthrough specifically), but up to Ace Attorney Dual Destinies I got used to it. And ever since Blackquill made an appearance, every theme has been on x2 for me. It's unnatural to hear Sherlock's theme so slow.
Why, to save time, of course. It takes me twice as less to watch any vid.
I do the same: other than saving time (especially if you're watching a 30+ hour series), 2x speed has become normal for me and normal speed seems slow. That's one of the reasons why I don't really like livestreams

I agree with many others, I think this is one of the best Ace Attorney characters. He's not just funny and proud of himself, but also is a great father to Iris and also has a depressive side to him. Sherlock is truly multi-dimensional character

I always thought Sholmes resembled Kristoph Gavin, meaning he is Kristoph's ascendant and I was honestly scared Sholmes was gonna be a surprise villain cause of that. I mean he had many elements. The similar hairstyle and color, eye color, the EXACT same color and style of neckwear. I also learned that I am not the one realising their similarities too.
