This coach is truly a gift to the chess community. Personally I like it when he teaches you how to think as well, instead of just showing moves, which without underlying fundamentals, could seem incidental.

The best coach! Not simply show a game and 1 or 2 moves. Full explanations!

Thanks for another great instructive video! I don't play these types of structures very often but as an aspiring QGD player you never know when you might need the knowledge.

Awesome video. I think a lot of instructors talk breeze through an opening talking about the best moves (sometimes why it's the best move) - what you've done here 4:45 which is far more instructive is shown why b6 is not a good move even though it looks good. Also great when you talk about the principles of why we might sense it was wrong rather then simply that it fails to a concrete line. 😀

Very instructive! I feel those d4 structures feel relatively calm and then suddenly can become super sharp!

Saw your post on Twitter the other day expressing some frustration at lower than desired views/subs. So now I'll like all your videos. Your subs may not be where you want them to be, but you've got a captive audience highly targeted for your sweet spot. Keep it up.

I enter hanging pawns a lot. I play the Tartakower QGD. One of my favorite players who I studied a lot is the Swede GM Ulf Anderson. He disliked that hanging pawns structure because if you lose one you often get a bad isolani. The one loss I had in my March tournament was against an old master who shutdown my structure and I couldn’t find the right breakthrough. I like the hanging pawns because they can be a dynamic force in the middlegame but they have positional risks. Great lecture. Posted for the algorithm.

Big thanks and great timing for this video. This is a funny coincidence. I analyzed recently the game Kotov-Botvinnik, 1944 in which the Patriarch want for 7.d5? without castling entering an unfavorable structure as explained in the video, but luckily didn't get punished. I invite anyone to check this game to reinforce the ideas explained in this great video.

I've started playing d4 recently and these videos really highlight concepts that I've struggled with. It seems so much more intuitive with these explanations.

I was one of them who suggested it. It helped a lot, i still didn't understand it fully. I still will misplay them in my game. I would also like to have a part 2. Full tension in ruy Lopez or Italian when black plays d5

Nice video. It seems like i need to try to play with the hanging pawns more in other variations - my primary experience with them has been as black in the tartakower where i have spent a lot of time defending and not pressing the space advantage they grant...

I thought your tweet about the lack of engagment on your videos. I think it goes the same with the chess dojo content, there is just not that many people who want to actually learn and do the hard work on their chess on youtube, people watch chess to be entertained

Are you going to do the Dragon structure at some point? In the Classical Sicilian I end up quite frequently in this structure when white avoids the Rauzer. Most of the time white casltes short.

If a genius like Boris Spassky can misjudge a hanging pawns structure, then weak club players like me are never going to understand these kinds of positions. Baburin wrote a good book on IQP, hanging pawns etc - I tried to read it but it seemed to me that one had to calculate about 8 moves deep at every step.

What's about the Grünfeld where this sometimes happens without c5 being protected? Should Black sacrifice the pawn? I play the black side and never understand it

When I play the Semi Tarrasch against QG, the game mostly reaches an endgame after quick trades. Could you make a video on some openings that transform directly to endgame and if it is good to opt for them?

I hate these tensionous (tensionful?) positions because you have to calculate so much on every turn. A sure way to get into time trouble. And in blitz, you have to have a lot of experience for these positions, because there's no time to calculate all of them.
