That’s the sound or the timing chain, quite normal. Stick with the recommended oil (dexos 2), the sound will be lower, also don’t go over 10k every oil change.
@@reffusion4228 no, it still sounds like that. Keep in mind turbo chargers on these engines have very specific sound since they were brand new, so I wouldnt worry about the turbo sound
No not as yet however I’ve been doing a fair amount of research and I believe it’s related to the timing chain. There are a few other videos with the same noise as my car and they all say it relates to the timing chain, further more my car has a rattle on start up which is a common fault with the 1.6Cdti, most likely the tensioners. I’m awaiting a few quotes in relation to the repair, I imagine it’s going to be a big bill.
That’s interesting mate, perhaps they are designed to start failing at that mileage? It’s driving me up the wall when driving it, hopefully I get it sorted soon. When I get the quotes back from a couple of garages I’ll give you a shout and let you know the bill. One other thing to watch is when you turn the car off and the operating temp starts dropping and you turn the ignition when it’s at about 70c I get a horrendous rattle for about 10-15 secs, again probably relating to timing chain….

Did you find the problem? My 2.0 has started making this noise and i think its possibly the alternator

Both - no longer have the car as was diagnosed as timing chain/tensioners. £2500 job so the car went.

@@nickbirch7865 mines is the exact same I have a 2017 astra K 1.6cdti I’ll tag you in the morning but it really does my head in !
What is the mileage on yours? Mine is a 2016 reg and has covered 61k.
