As a S&W Model 59 owner (from Istanbul/Turkiye) I benefited a lot from your video. It is really a very good pistol. Thank you for your enjoyable shooting and narration.
@@rdrrr Hi, the things I can say about the gun laws in Turkiye (specific to handguns) are that the sale of domestic or imported handguns is only done by an institution of the state (MKE). We have very high quality local pistol manufacturing companies. For example Canik, Sarsilmaz. However, for those of us who practice pistol sports by respecting the law, this hobby is quite costly and requires bureaucratic paperwork. Imported pistols and ammunition are very expensive, partly because of the TL/USD exchange rate. We have shooting ranges in every city. We can go to the shooting ranges with our pistols that we have a license to carry or keep at home. If your pistol license is “possession at home”, we have to get a one-day permission slip from the police in advance to go to the range. Finally, I can say that shooting is a centuries-old sport for every Turkish man. If there is anything I can do to help you learn Turkish, I will be happy to help.
@@metindogan9971 Mükemmel cevabınız için teşekkür ederim. Olimpiyatlarda Yusuf Dikeç'ten çok etkilendim! The rest in English because my skills are limited... I'm from England, and unfortunately firearms laws are very strict here. It is illegal to own any firearm with a barrel shorter than 12 inches, under any circumstance. I therefore have no experience with pistol shooting, only rifle. When I have the opportunity, there are two specific handguns I want to shoot; a Beretta 92FS (I understand Canik make an excellent copy of the design) and a S&W 686.
@@rdrrr I didn't know gun laws were so strict in England. By the way, nice coincidence, my second licensed pistol is the S&W 357 Magnum. We can call it the grandfather of the S&W 686. There is no reason why you can't hit a paper target with this gun when you shoot with 38 special ammunition instead of 357 magnum bullets. I hope that one day, when you visit Turkey, you will be able to go to any shooting range in the cities and have the chance to shoot a lot with any type of pistol that is available in the shooting ranges. You do not need any official permission from the police department for this. Greetings.

They are awesome guns,, in my opinion I think they are one of the best guns ever built,, I’ve not got a 59 but I have a couple of the gen lll smiths the 915s and I love them,, I got one that still new never been shot in the box and I’ve got one I pack in my rotation,, I just can’t exsplain how good of a gun they are
Totally agreed and always bizarre to me the lack of press they get given how solid there are and the fact they were made for decades when you consider all the generations.

My collection thus far, Models 59, 39-2, 539, and newest edition, Model 52-1 .38 Master. I've fallen in love with these 1st and 2nd Gen Smiths. They don't turn up very often at the gun show but it's always exciting when they do!
First centerfire pistol I shot was a Model 39 and it fit the hand so nice! 40+ years later I thought I should own one so I hit the auction sites and I now own four. With those winning bids I got a couple 59s and they're wonderful too. They are all in perfect shape, with boxes, manuals, and extra magazines and they probably averaged $700/ea but they're in exceptional condition. A wonderful design!
Very cool , great history on the firearm . I have a 469 I bought a few years ago , it didn't have the factory stocks but had pachmayr, and only cam with one magazine with pinky extension. I missed a third gen cause I didn't want to buy anything when I first get to a show.
Good vid,,um,, very informative umm, nice pistol um, a lot of details umm, I liked the Hampton Rhoades story umm, The hush puppy was a great note umm, thanks for the vid umm, looking forward to the next umm video.
M59 is my edc. Honest. A387 are the beginning 4 to the serial num. but idk what year that is. If you can tell me I’d appreciate it 😊 Mine looks 100% like yours, to the T. Looks brand new truly
Insufficiente questa, se pur interessante, presentazione della S&W 59. Mancano ad esempio, lo smontaggio dell'arma e il test di sparo. La mia personale preferenza va però alla modello 39. Cordiali saluti 😊
Remove the grips and check to see if material removed or solid aluminum grip . My 59 1976 made has no aluminum removed behind the grips . I’ve never seen that before on any smith or any metal frame .
Excellent point, it’s a solid piece for the frame vs the cut out style on my 459, thus the weight. It’s an odd wear pattern for sure but from the pictures I’ve seen of these Tac Star clamp on style lasers and lights it would match to that. I had a 5903 that had the satin finish worn off is spots to bare aluminum.
Possibly, interestingly enough, I came across one on GB recently with almost the same wear pattern…. I’m still thinking holster wear (maybe a certain holster back in the day was the culprit) or those early weapon mounted lights.
@@muffin1719 hey thanks for the comment. As there were very few guys running lights back then , I have to assume there was a certain holster that was prevalent at that time that caused that wear.
@@thedailydefender1408 Mine's wear is in the exact same spot on the frame, pretty uncanny actually. My conclusion came down the exact same after watching this video with the exact same wear on your frame, the culprit must be a certain holster issued for it back in the day. - Thanks for the information and your video was a joy to watch.

A few years ago I picked up an ISP marked Model 39 at Rock Island Auction. One of my prized possessions.
Oh wow, I can imagine.
I had heard they also had their holsters stamped ISP did the firearm come with that as well?

Still shoot my 59 fairly regularly. Great gun!
Thanks, agree, the 39 and 59 always bring a smile to my face when I pull them out of the safe, same with the 459 and 5904…..
I have the 120th off the production line!

Are there trigger upgrades, or any sites that have upgrade parts for this?
There may have been back in the day but even then probably nothing like we have today. Spares alone might be a challenge.

She’s in mint condition, not a scratch. Truly seems like it hasn’t even been broken in yet, but it’s smooth like butter at the same time
It’s fat and heavy at first, I agree. But once used to it, it’s nice feeling. Could use better grips though lol, slippery
I own a model 5904 gen 3, I like the model 39 and the 59 but the price of ownership is always an issue. Fun video and S&W gun history of the model 59
Love the 5904, that was my off duty gun back in the day, there are good deals on 39 and 59s….just keep an eye out for them.

Sir plz tell me that original Chinese tt pistol magazine keeping full load all the year its magazine spring will be lose or damaged ?
Is this the 459
Which bullet weight grain and pressure does it take?
I’d be comfortable with a normal 9mm bullet weight from 115 to 158 gr I doubt S&W approved +p use for it.
Selliet&bellot 9mm cartri.. fit well.. i dont know but just thinking..
Can’t beat the 124 grain.
Mine jams a lot.
